That was in response to someone saying we would be a laughing stock for selling him back to them, i personally think they would look worse than us. He has hardly played and is out of contract.

I doubt they would feel quite shrewd anyway.

They're pretty even in stature, even though Evans is a full year younger.
Pique has more talent on the ball than Evans will ever have. Evans is a better defender at the moment, however. There's not much in it.

I'm amazed if Barca are really interested in acquiring Pique as a serious first team player for next season. They have a new manager who will have to deliver if he is to avoid being a one season wonder, and risking Pique at this stage of his career is just insane. Of course if they are buying Pique as a squad player then fair enough but he might not get many more games than he would get at United.

I would have thought the choice for Pique was between a club that will play him each week, or being at a big club like United, or indeed Barca, where he will have to wait, and improve significantly, before he becomes a regular.

In 5 years' time I think Pique will be a super player but I'd be concerned about the number of school boy errors he made this season and will no doubt be making next season too. Top teams just cannot avoid to drop points to basic errors.

There weren't many.He was solid most of the times.

And a few errors are obvious at his age.

Barcelona are close to agreeing a deal to take Gerard Pique back to Camp Nou.

The defender left the Primera Division giants as a teenager when he was snapped up by Manchester United.

However, he has struggled to hold down a first-team spot at Old Trafford and would welcome the opportunity of regular football back in his homeland.

Pique impressed during a year-long loan spell at Real Zaragoza in 2006, proving that he is more than capable of meeting the demands of the Spanish top flight.

Barcelona are keen to launch a summer rebuilding programme after ending the 2007/08 season empty handed and see Pique as a long-term option at the heart of their defence.

"Things are at an advanced stage," Barca's sporting director Txiki Bergiristain confirmed.

"I can't deny that he is one of the players we're interested in, but he is involved in the Champions League final so things are on hold."
looks like he's off.. pity that... he's gonna be a good player..

There weren't many cause he wasn't picked the majority of the games. After the error at Bolton he got better but there was always the doubt that he can do another costly error that ended on us losing points. When you have a championship as hard as we have you cant allow your team to put youngsters cause 1 or 2 points can be huge in win the title or lose it.

In the end we won but when you look back that Bolton game could have costed us the title.

According to this story. we're getting top-dollar for him. At that price we should bit their fecking hand off.

Gerard Pique has admitted he is looking forward to returning to Barcelona after being frozen out at Manchester United.

Pique is on the verge of completing a 10million euros (£7.9million) transfer back to Barca, four years after he opted to leave the Spanish club because he felt that he would have a better chance of making it at Old Trafford.

The defender believes that since he made it clear that he wanted to return to Camp Nou, Sir Alex Ferguson has left him out of the United side to show his unhappiness.

He is still contracted to United but he will be in Barcelona this weekend and hopes his future can be resolved in the near future

"Since I have started talking to Barcelona, Ferguson has virtually ignored me," Pique told Sport.

"The best thing is going to be arriving. I hope that a solution can be reached soon and that my future will be clarified.

"On Friday I will be in Barcelona to prepare to play for Catalunya against Argentina and for the time being I still have a year left on my contract with United."

History

Pique admits he was not surprised to be left out of the squad for the UEFA Champions League final but he was happy to be told by the other players to join in with the celebrations having played a role in helping the team to reach Moscow.

"I felt like a very important part of history," he said. "It was more than a triumph because it is 50 years since the Munich tragedy and we owed the Busby Babes that cup.

"Sir Bobby Charlton came to speak to the squad and explained to us exactly what happened. I will never again live through a moment like that.

"It was also very special for Giggsy (Ryan Giggs) to beat Sir Bobby's record and for Scholesy (Paul Scholes) because he could not play in the last final.

"It was the perfect end to the season."
P.S.

^Well what can I say. If he wants to go then we just have to let him. Pique was a great yound defensive talent but he cannot be forced to remain at the club. As long as we get a good price for him I will be happy. Good luck at Barcelona, Pique.

Evans is better anyway. We would have been spoilt having both of them...

Think we will have dropped a bollock if we let this kid go as we would have reduced our CH cover and let a talented player go. In a season ammounting to 60+ games, a few injuries can test any squad and we could have given the kids atleast 30 games with with cup and league games.

30 games? No way. Obviously if we have a lot of injuries, but there's no other way. With Gary back (and another right back coming? we'll see) it will be easier to play Wes at centerhalf if needed, and Evans may well be coming back, so I don't really think we need Pique short term. We could look in 3-4-5 years time and say we need a player like him, but right now, it's difficult to keep him when Barca are obviously offering him a lot more pitch time.

£7.9 mill, just a week or so after it was quoted at £3.5 mill (As the base fee). Come on guys, Barca would never pay that much.

The same cannot be said of Gerard Pique though, with Ferguson confirming he has decided to let the young defender leave for Barcelona.

You can't blame Pique for wanting to leave. He wasn't getting much of a look in. Fair play to him and good luck to him.
