After Kahn and Lehmann both retired from Germany in 2008, Adler quickly became #1 of Germany. At that time they had the late R. Enke, as well as Butt, Wiese, Neuer of course, they had a lot of options and he still drew the longest straw. Adler seemingly is Loews first choice German goalkeeper above Neuer. And troughout most of the last decade, I really believe Germany have five goalkeepers whom would mostly be the best goalkeeper in England. Nobody produces as many great goalkeepers as Germany, they always have one of the top candidates for the best goalkeepers in the world. If our two goalkeepers in the start of next season is Adler and Lindegaard, our goalkeeping future after van der Sar's retirement looks very bright. Both have great potentials. Another good thing about him is that he is a Manchester United fan, and if Lindegaard achieves the potential that he has, there can be a goalkeeping battle... Being a Manchester United fan might help if he gets behind Lindegaard and we get a goalkeeping battle between the two, because Lindegaard can go a long way too, he is a really talented goalkeeper. It is likely that Adler might handle such a context better than most other options. |

I think it is better to spend 15m on Adler because he is only 25 and that is very young for a GK. He has a good part of 10-12 years left in him. If we get someone as young as him, we don't have to worry about a GK for the next decade. |

I think recent transfer discussions have gone to his head - wasn't at fault for any of the goals, but hardly looked comfortable tonight. Messed up a back-pass also that almost went in.

He tends to let frustration get to him. that lead to the botched clearance of the back pass. Hopefully with experience he will eliminate that.

Nah, he really wasn't. Had one particular bad moment in the first half when he missed a cross coming in from a corner, but that's about it. Miskicked a back pass but that was more due the bad condition of the pitch. Not much he could do about the goals, Leverkusen's defence was torn to shreds as the Chief correctly pointed out.

I felt he could have made himself bigger for the third goal, but in truth in all cases Dortmund players were clean through on goal, two of the goals down to shocking individual defensive errors
He fucked up a backpass, sure the conditions weren't good but I don't think he does that if the game is 0-0, the brutal nature of that ten minute period got to him I think How good a keeper he is depends on how he responds now, if he looks shaky the next few games because he conceeded three goals in a game, none of which were particularly his fault, you'd have to question his mentality |

Bayer Leverkusen general manager Rudi Voller is optimistic that Rene Adler will snub a possible move to Manchester United and sign a contract extension.
It has been revealed that the Germany international has a buy-out clause in the region of a £17million in his current contract, which expires in 2012, if United want to pursue a transfer. The Old Trafford outfit are looking for a new goalkeeper ahead of the impending summer retirement of Edwin van der Sar and Adler has been scouted as a potential successor. The 25-year-old, along with compatriot Manuel Neuer, Holland's Maarten Stekelenburg and Lyon's Hugo Lloris, are thought to be on United boss Sir Alex Ferguson's list of targets. But Voller hopes Adler will stay at BayArena, as he told Sport 1: "Rene Adler has been a supporter of Manchester United since he was a child and he has a buy-out clause in his current contract just in case United come up. "This clause is in a region of beyond £17m. "We have the ambition to keep him at our club and we are in good talks. We have the intention to see him sign on for more seasons. Could someone who watches the german league comment on this lad, I've read he was rated higher than Nueur even right up to the WC, yet he stays at Leverkusen and Nueur's going to Bayern(supposedly). I've always thought the best in the land are always bought up by bayern. Why has his star gone down so much that his name isn't even in the tabloids anymore?

Neuer had a superb WC and deservedly kept his place in the national team. He seems to have gotten better and better, whereas Adler's performances and potential has somehow stalled. He has had some good displays, but overall Neuer is the ahead of him - in terms of his aerial presence, his distribution, his kicking and throwing. |

While Neuer simply upped his game in pretty much every department, Adler is still a very good keeper, but has not progressed much over the last couple of months. Full credit to Neuer, he has easily been Germany's best keeper for a while now. |

No such thing as a free transfer. Generally, when a contract expires, and if the player is in demand he gets a signing on fee instead of the club. If he doesn't get a fee a it's added on to the length of his contract.

Adler hält ab Sommer für den HSV
Great signing for Hamburg and it's a free transfer too. He's a bit injury-prone but if he's fit then he's one of the best german keepers. |

They do....for instance Michael Ballack and Shevchenko got pretty much the exact same money the summer they signed for Chelsea, despite one costing £30m more, some players/agents manipulate it to get a higher wage/sign on fee, like Cahill tried to with Chelsea which while he still got overpaid, he still failed with.
