Always looked like some kind of reptile-human half-breed. Great player though.

Great player but my lasting memory of him will be holding his face at the World Cup when someone kicked the ball at his knees.

Shame that.

Its a portuguese speaking country so he will feel at home. Its a booming country in terms of oil and diamond production and I hear its a nice place to visit too. Who could ever forget this goal? One of the all time greats in tersm of significance. Rivaldo was on a hat trick and this last minute goal in the last game of the season meant that Barca scraped the last Champions League spot in Spain by the skin of their teeth!!

What about his spastic reaction back at the World Cup 2002 when the ball hit his thigh and he immediately grabbed his face in agony and sank to the floor?

Rivaldo won the footballer of the year we won the treble

Must have had a hell of a season to win the award despite 'only' winning his domestic league and having his team kicked out of the cl in the group stages

Loved Rivaldo. All about technique with him, the similarity with his idol Zico was uncanny.

If he can go through as much money as he's earned over the past 10 years, he's got major issues.

Certainly did. To be fair the margins between success and failure in that group of death with Bayern, Barca and United were very fine. Along with Kiev, those were the outstanding teams in Europe that year.

His disfigurement was the result of severe malnutrition when he was a kid - even more remarkable that he made it as a professional athlete.

Oh come on to fuck. If that's all you remember him for you really need to start appreciating football more.

I got the privilege of seeing Rivaldo play twice that season and he was absolutely immense in both matches. If it wasn't for him, Barca would not have been close in the CL group with United and would not have won La Liga to be sure.

Never said it was "all I remembered him for". I said it is my "lasting memory" of him. 2 very different statements.

Remember reading that he lost most of his teeth as a young lad due to it as well.

Talk about rising to the occasion. One of the best individual performances given the significance and circumstances of that game. His first two goals weren't bad either. If you can come up with moments of pure magic like this, then diving around here and there is forgiven... unless of course you're a Turkey fan I guess.

It's funny because after being the best player at the 2002 World Cup he slid massively and was very poor for Milan in 2002-2003.

I say this because considering his drop from being a world class player was so rapid his drop to being completely finished hasn't happened yet. Nearly a decade on and he was still looking respectable in Brazilian football last season.

Not much of a shock really when he spent two years in Uzbekistan.
