Ruud to Liverpool on loan?

Quote:
Liverpool lining up January move for Ruud van Nistelrooy - Exclusive

Ruud Van Nistelrooy is being lined up for a New Year move to Liverpool.

The Dutch striker is surplus to requirements at Real Madrid as he recovers from the latest of a series of injuries that have limited him to four appearances this season.

Anfield boss Rafa Benitez is looking at the possibility of taking the former Manchester United striker on loan until the end of the season as he aims to add firepower to his team.

Van Nistelrooy, 33, is also attracting interest from Tottenham and Manchester City as he nears fitness following a thigh problem.

But he would prefer a move to Anfield because he believes Liverpool will still be fighting for the Premier League title at the end of the season – and that would help him secure a place in Holland’s World Cup squad.

It’s a move that would send shock waves all the way to Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson believed he landed a huge psychological blow on Benitez when he persuaded former Liverpool striker Michael Owen to join United in the summer. Recruiting Van Nistelrooy would give the Merseysiders a big New Year lift as they look to get back into the title race.

Van Nistelrooy scored 95 goals in 150 appearances for United before moving to Spain three years ago in a £18million deal after falling out with Ferguson.

Real signed Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema last summer, while Van Nistelrooy is also behind Bernabeu golden boy Raul in the pecking order.

Benitez will be given a limited budget for signings in January – and a loan move for Van Nistelrooy is a big attraction.

Van Nistelrooy’s goal-scoring pedigree is impressive. In three seasons he has been the Champions League top marksman. He is currently the Champions League second highest scorer – only Raul has more.

As well as having World Cup aspirations Van Nistelrooy also needs to secure a long-term contract. His current agreement with Real expires next summer.

The other big attraction for Benitez is that Van Nistelrooy can operate as a solo striker in the way he currently deploys Fernando Torres

It would be a clever bit of business if they could pull it off. Ruud will score goals in any team.

It would sicken me to see him scoring goals for Liverpool. Would be a shrewd move if they could acquire him and keep him fit though.

ruud. even though i am not his biggest supporter.

but only if his attitude was spot on. owen looks chuffed to bits that he's even training with us.

if ruud still had the moody-arse thing going on, then of course rather have owen.

This is obviously a bad attempt at payback for us signing owen.

Would have opted for Ruud as well. Better finisher, more adept at holding up the ball and laying it off for team mates, good in the air. Only question mark I'd have is over fitness.

Would fit in well with SAF's liking to have 4 top class strikers but I think the relationship between Ruud and SAF would prevent such a deal ever happening. It'd also hamper Welbeck and Macheda but if we wanted a fourth striker, I'd love it to be Ruud. Miss hearing "Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuud" ring out around Old trafford.

I hope he doesn't consider it.

I loved him when he was at United and he's the best striker I've ever seen at this club. I was literally devastated when he left and till today I think Fergie sold him more for personal reasons than for footballing ones. Still remembering his first press conference at Madrid.

Keano, Ronaldo, Beckham, Giggs and Ruud are my favourite United players of all-time and I woulnd't be able to respect Ruud anymore if he went to Liverpool. Hopefully it's just a non-story, fingers crossed.

I couldn't care less, Ruud needs games and if Liverpool provides them for him then good for him. After the Owen signing, we can't really moan about it but I doubt it to be true

Would have had Ruud back over Owen any day of the week.

One of my all time favourite United players. Don't do it Ruud.

I wouldn't exactly scream blue murder at him like Liverpool fans did with Owen but I have to say I wouldn't really like it seeing him in a Liverpool shirt.

If he has the right attitude and can keep his fitness on a good level, I'd have him back here, at least on a loan deal and see how it goes.

No way I'd have him back at United. Not worth the baggage. I would rather he didn't sign for Liverpool, but don't really care that much to be honest.

Never really liked him much if he didn't have the baggage as Mike said, I'd have him over Owen. Unfortunately it comes with the territory.

He has had ongoing ankle problems but the recent surgery may have solved that.

ok then, its hard to say in that case, but if possible you would want to think the best, like many are trying to do over hargreaves

but i think ruuds style of play means that his knee's are under constant bombardment so injury's will always be very frequent know he is getting older aswell

One of the best strikers i've ever seen, his finishing ability at united was second to none. When the Ronaldo deal to Madrid was finalised i harboured hope that we might be able to get Ruud back as part of the deal (never really thought it would be a reality though). I'd be gutted if he joined the scousers.

I'm not too bothered if he goes there because of the United thing. I don't want him to go because I still rate him as a player, and he would improve their side. And that's just something I don't want.

Nah he'd just be a judas if he went there, no more. It certainly wouldn't bother me playing-wise, as his career is on a downwards trajectory, he's older than Owen, and he wouldn't play much, which we all know would piss him off mightily, thus causing unrest to Liverpool's squad

What!?

They can't do that. Taking on a former player of your biggest rival is completely unacceptable. Only a right desperate club would do that.

He'd definitely get a game ahead of Voronin and Ngog if he can stay fit. Torres is crocked half the time anyway.
