Silvestre to Bordeaux?

Bordeaux target Silvestre swoop

Bordeaux coach Laurent Blanc is reportedly planning to raid former club Manchester United for Mikael Silvestre.

Reports emanating from France suggest Blanc has made his former Old Trafford team-mate one of his top summer transfer targets.

With David Jemmali set to leave Bordeaux at the end of the season after turning down a new deal, Blanc is in need of defensive reinforcements and sees Silvestre as an ideal replacement.

Blanc is a big admirer of Silvestre and he is believed to have enquired about the French international last summer.

Silvestre's future at United is uncertain as he has just one-year remaining on his contract and he is well down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old could be tempted to return to France for regular first-team football and the prospect of Champions League football at Bordeaux next season could sway Silvestre's decision.

TargetsMeanwhile, Bordeaux are believed to be keeping tabs on Yoann Gourcuff and Jeremy Menez as possible replacements for Johan Micoud.

Micoud is set to quit Bordeaux in the summer leaving Bordeaux with a huge void to fill and Blanc is drawing up his list of targets.

Milan starlet Gourcuff could be an option as he is thought to be considering a loan move away from the San Siro after struggling to establish himself at the Rossoneri.

Tottenham, Marseille and some Italian clubs are believed to be monitoring Gourcuff's situation.

Monaco midfielder Menez has been a long-term target for Bordeaux with Les Girondins missing out to Monaco for the player's signature when he left Sochaux in 2006.

Menez has just over a year to run on his contract at Monaco and they could be tempted to sell for a big offer rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer.

I hope he stays. Good cover for Evra, experience and he loves to play for this club. Very loyal player.

Doubt it, we need cover for Evra and Silvestre is good. Is stupid to sell him and not have a proper cover or start looking for a cover when we already have one. He will stay until his contract ends.

The other position in which Ferguson is expected to strengthen is left-back. Mikael Silvestre, the only obvious cover for Patrice Evra, may well depart Manchester in the coming weeks and United have already been linked with Racing Santander's Argentine full-back Ezequiel Garay. < from football365.com http://football365.com/story/0,17033...558538,00.html

Speaking of left-backs, Chiellini of Juventus is top class.

Interesting story, except that Garay is a centre-half, and not a full-back.

Don't sell Silvestre. Great backup, and he's loyal as feck. His head has a weird shape, but he's good anyway.

We'll be keeping him unless he wants to leave - in which case we'll replace him with a new player or Evans and O'Shea will fill in.

ah true. i remember that now. if we get a bid from bordeaux, i don't think he'd have qualms over it, esp if we win CL and he gets a medal..nice way to end his utd career.

that said, i have never slated tweety as much as most utd support, i think he is a top class LB and would be perfect cover for evra. not to mention he can slide into emergeny CB if necessary (though not on a long term basis). he would've played more this season if he wasn't totally crocked, but he has come back very strong.

but if we get a 4-5 million pound bid, i can see us and tweety parting ways.

the fashionable answer, fabio/rafael.

in all seriousness, i really don't want to see tweety go, but we did accept a bid last summer for 7 million. if nothing has changed with his contract length, then we might accept a 5 million bid this summer which would mean it would be up to tweety and if it is the right club, he could leave.

o'shea, evans, brazilian twins could act as cover and that is even before we talk about dipping into transfer market, which we could do and lahm would be able to provide such cover.

Yes, Lahm would primarily play on the right, but when Evra is injured, he could move over to the left and Neville could come in.

Perfect methinks.

I dont want him to go because he is solid and dependable in our defence. However we dont know what will happen in the summer. He may decide that he has been here for long enough. Either way we will have good cover with the Brazilian twins, O'Shea, Evans, etc.

Same person who has covered him for the majority of this season, O'Shea.
