Silvestre leaving as well

Mikael Silvestre has admitted he would be tempted by a move to Bordeaux - the club of his 'heart' - in the summer.
Silvestre, 30 is out of contract at the end of the season and weighing up his options - which include a return to France with Bordeaux where his former Old Trafford team-mate Laurent Blanc is the coach.

Blanc has spoken to Silvestre about making a return to the area where he grew up and following the team as a boy.
Silvestre said: "It is not impossible - Bordeaux, it's the club of my heart. When I was small, I followed their exploits in Europe. Moreover I have got family in the [area] Gironde."
But Silvestre, who reportedly earns £35,000-a-week at United, does not want to sell himself short and expects Bordeaux to meet his financial demands if he is to return to Ligue 1.

Pretty sure he has another year to run on his contract, extended it last season, if I am not wrong.

Last January, despite the '12m arrival of Vidic and Evra, Silvestre turned down a move to Gerard Houllier's Lyon and vowed instead to fight back at Old Trafford.

The 29-year-old successfully did that and earned himself a new contract in August that can tie him to the club until 2009.

I cant see him leaving especially if the rumours about us negotiating a fee for Pique are true.

I'll be sad to see him go if its true.

Apparently we accepted a bid from Newcastle for him in the Summer only for him to turn them down.

And apparently he turned them down because of Joey Barton going there.

Talk in the newspapers at the time was that Silvestre was close friends with Dabo who Barton assaulted and it was part of his decision. Seems strange to alter your career because of one cunt if you ask me.

If someone hospitalised 1 of your friends it would be interesting too see if you still had the same view.

Im not a professional footballer. If i was i would have the same view. If he did not like Barton thats fine players dont get on with each other all the time look at Cole and sheringham. We dont know if that actually was his main reason anyway.

Cole and Sheringham's dispute was nothing like this one.

You're right, we dont know if it was his main reason, but you said if it was it should not stop him moving. I think you're wrong.

Its as good a reason as any.

From our point of view, we should keep him. He's easily the best cover we've got for Evra and the fact he can also play centerhalf in emergency makes him a valuable squad member. Whether that's enough for him remains to be seen, but unless we sign Lahm, I think we should keep him and his wierd shaped head.

Yup.. i think he's a brilliant backup LB and CB. Total professional, and a great team player to have. There's no point in releasing him for peanuts, only to find ourselves with a lack of cover in the event of injuries. He's definetely a better option in defence than JOS. Keep him, unless SAF is planning to blood Evans next season.

I really hope he stays for a couple more years. He's been fantastic since returning from injury, great back-up for Evra. He had his moments in the past, notably when Barthez was in goal but recently he's developed into a solid tough-tackling defender. Was great to see him celebrating with the squad last Sunday, pouring champagne over Wesley's head. Hopefully there's still plenty of time for him to play for his 'home' club in a few years to come.

It was made a pretty big deal out of. It was because Silvestre was a good friend with the guy that Barton knocked out (or whatnot) in practice.

I would like him to stay because his experience and ablity at LB could be needed. However from a personal point of view, this move may be good for his career. In that case Pique, Evans will get more games next season.

He's my favourite kidney-shaped-head player of all time. We should keep him.

THe two games he's played since his return to injury have been awesome. I remember he wasn't too bad at the start of the season either.

Hope we keep him. He told Liverpool to fuck off to sign with us and has been with us for like 10 years, thats madness. And I like him as cover for Evra.

If we also sell Pique and bring noone we might be short of backup options at the back.

Rather see him at LB or CD than O'Shea.

At his stage of his career, he needs to play regular football. What is he now, 30? Let him go if he wants and enjoy the twilight of his career.

Has been solid generally, Barthez seemed to unsettle him, has scored a few important goals in his time. Would be sorry to see him go.

Roma swoop for Silvestre
Roma have contacted Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre for a return to Serie A.

“I am afraid the situation with Silvestre has been complicated,” revealed Bordeaux director Marius Tresor.

“I met him recently and he told me he had just been contacted by Roma.

“Both clubs are interested in the player, but there is the risk he’ll find a permanent transfer to Roma more attractive than a loan to Bordeaux.”

It would be a return to the peninsula for Silvestre, who flopped in his one year at Inter in 1998-99, making just 18 Serie A appearances.

The French defender turns 31 in August and has been at Manchester United since completing a £3.5m move in 1999.

He can play both centre-back and left-back, so his versatility would be of interest to the Giallorossi.

His fitness could be a concern, though, as he was out for seven months with knee ligament damage and made his comeback in April.

don't want to see him leave.

trying to get us back for petrucci eh?

no, for the right price i'd sell him but that is 6-7 million quid and idon't think roma will pay that.
