Whats the point of a thread about midfield transfers if you cant pick your first choice?

The thread was originally intended to find out who most people preferred between the two, no agenda.

Sneijder is the better player but I think Modric would be better fit for United

1. I think Modric wouldnt kick up as big a stink when left out
2. Sneijder plays in Rooneys role, whereas Modric is more of a Scholes replacement
3. Modric already up to Prem speed
4. Less expectations on Modric

I'd take Sneijder if I had to choose between those two.

However, I have a feeling Modric may yet reach another level as a player, if he leaves Spurs for MU or Chelsea.

You think a midfield 3 of:

-------Carrick
Sneijder ----Modric

Would get fucked? I doubt it, I think that midfield would do a great job against Barca's midfield.

We'd still have the problem of a certain Messi though.

Man for man, the Barca trio are way ahead of each man. As a unit, they're also untouchable, we've seen it time and time again. For sure, those three would fair better than Carrick 'the passenger' and a 37 year old Giggs.

would put up a much better fight..and sneijder has a very good record of facing the barca midfielders..

Carrick "the passenger"? what are you on about? If Carrick had sat in Biscuits position you'd be lauding him now. He had a fucking impossible job.

Carrick was a passenger in the 2 previous finals - I'm not saying his job wasn't impossible though.

For sure he'd look better in the Biscuits position, but he didn't play there so we cant laud him.

Modric all day long, I don't want Sneijder purely because Rooneys a better no 10 than he is. We don't need him.

As for Carrick being a passenger, scapegoating him got boring 2 years ago.

Sneijder is much more than just a no. 10, he can play midfield.

The same shit was said about Modric when he arrived in England.

I've never personally seem Sneijder play well in a 2 man midfield, something he would HAVE to do for us. But I haven't seen him as much as I have Modric.

if we really did sign sneijder then i don't think he will have any problem playing in a 2 man midfield against the fulhams, blackburns or west broms..

when we are playing the big teams then we will change to 4-5-1 and that will suit sneijder as well..

Add Messi to the right, Ronaldo to the left and Jesus upfront.

To bag those two new players you'll need at least 60m

Who plays in the "10" for Holland then, Sneijder or VDV?

The use of the word "previous" isn't working too well with this one.

And I totally disagree with singling Carrick out as a passenger in this final, he did as much as he could I thought. Put him in a 3 alongside players like Modric and Sneijder and you'd really start to see his influence.

Sneijder. Maybe riskier, but he has more to his game.

I like your posts but you'll have to admit that that formation smells alot of football manager. We wont be able to get those 2 midfielders that's for sure

BTW in such circumstances Id rather play Fletch then Carrick.

To be greedy, i'd like to see Sneider & Modric signed, aswell as Lass Diarra. I think Diarra is perfect for us aswell as those two..

Who said we would? What the fuck are you on?

Was totally hypothetical to ask, what would we need to match Barca. I'm 31, I don't play football manager.

Well hypothetically speaking we can always sign Messi, Iniesta and Xavi. That would surely stop them.

Nar that's retarded because no team COULD buy them, the truth is, Sneijder is available at the right price, no doubt Modric is too.

Stop trying to be a clever dick, it doesn't suit you.

Neither, the money asked for both is nowhere near their true value. There's no point spunking money out just for the sake of it. Give some of the kids a go.

SAF said he hates being second best, he'll want to close the gap on Barca, do you really think Pogba and Morrison will help plug that gap?

Did anyone think that Scholes would plug the gap? Go on, back in the day? Did you?

That's not the point I'm making. Spending big money on something that's second best isn't going to plug the gap either, it's pissing in the wind.

Sneijder and Modric are available at the right price, that's true but we can't afford them both. You're talking here about at least 60m. One shouldn't forget their salaries, their signing on fee AND the fact that we need to bring in a new keeper. Its nearly as realistic as getting Iniesta or Xavi.
