According to Lou Macari neither Sneijder nor Modric is better to what we have at the moment.

Messi or Ronaldo.

In fairness he didn't say we could or should buy them, they were just the only two he mentioned to "definitely improve what we have".

No one. Altough he did mentioned Charlie Adams. He said that he's a more realistic buy then Sneijder

He's just added Rodwell to the Modric/Sneijder list.

So he wants us to bypass quality and great youth potential to buy a porky mid table talent?

Want Sneijder but would settle for Modric if pushed. Throw in Schweinsteiger and we've got a deal.

Estimated prices...

Rodwell: £18m
Schwienstei.ger:£25
Modric: £34m
Sneijder: £40m

You could almost get rodwell and Schweinsteiger for the price of Sniejder.

Although that is the most hypothetically estimated bollocks I think I have ever posted on the Caf.

well yes + no matter which position it is our players are as good\better then any other player in the world bar Barcelona's (the latter are described to be able to fire thunderbolts from their eyes and balls of lightening from their arse and no matter what we'll do its nearly impossible for our players to reach that level)

Yepp. I guess he's already trying to convince SAF not to participate in the CL. I mean we stand absolutely no chance to beat that invincible side. We should handle them the EPL title too, just in case they decide to compete in the EPL rather then the Liga. Thank god he's not SAF because if that was the case he'll still wondering how United will ever win the league from Liverpool.

Neither.

Sneijder - where will he play? In the hole? Isn't that Rooney position. Sneijder is not very good tracking back. If you want Rooney to play up front and Sniejder off him then that could work.

Modric can play deeper than Snijder and we could still play Rooney but the cost will be astronomical easily £40m plus and he is not worth that.

If Scholes can play in a 4-4-2, Sneijder definitely can...

People overrate the tracking back in 4-4-2.

Modric being proven in the PL is definitely a big plus.

I think Sneijder is the better attacking player, but I think Modric holds the ball better, and is a better deep lying CM. So it's a question of what United need. A goalscoring midfielder or a CM that can retain the ball and create?

I would also agree with one of the posters in the thread who said that Modric will go up another level if he goes to one of the big clubs.

I would take Sneijder over Modric on any given occasion.

What we need is one of each! We lack a top quality player in both those roles.

Modric can play deep, but with Sneijder we have the variations of his set pieces, his better long shots, and his mentality as a fighter in which I don't see Modric have as much as Sneijder...

1 year the difference, maybe 5m the price difference... I just think Sneijder will be the typical United warrior people will like, not that Modric won't be good but the dimension that Sneijder offers is what I'd risk.

Modric is easily the better choice for us, he's exactly what we're looking for in the middle and could come straight into the team without needing any change.

Depends on whether you are thinking of the January window or the summer.

If for January, then Modric isn't the better choice because it's pointless to pursue a player who just isn't within your reach.

The same will apply in the summer if Spurs finish in the top 4.

Then I dont think you were following it all that closely to be honest. It was quite obvious we were interested. So much so that Sneijder himself said the deal was close.

I think we should for Modric as he would be a better fit for us. I really like Sneijder and was really pulling for him to come here. However, I think Modric would suit us better and he's less injury-prone.
