Are there any insanely good available midfielders around?
We have A LOT of good midfielders but not really any GREAT ones, like Essien, Deco (early days but looks the part), Fabregas and Gerrard.
Is there a new Essien in France? |

I wonder just how good Ever Banega will end up. He's silky smooth with a great eye for a pass, but surely doesnt suit the premiership. That said, neither did Fabregas when he first came. He still has a lot to prove anyway, out of favour at Valencia for going to the Olympics with Argentina, he was loaned out to Ateltico Madrid this season. But still, lots of potential.
I'm not sure about in France, but Pedretti got a lot of hype a few years ago. I wasnt sure it was warranted and I dont know how he's doing. Anyone care to share? |

Well we obviously went round looking for replacements for Flamini and Gilberto and didn't manage to find any (except for Alonso and possibly Inler).

Anyone seen Ruben de la Red at Real Madrid? He was loaned out last season and apparantly he was amazing.
Our relationship with Real might not be the best nowadays mind. |

I dont really want him though. There's not many good players around playing for smaller clubs. At least not good enough for United. I think we need an established player if were gonna buy one in the summer. |

If he were even as ready as Anderson is, he'd have played for Portugal in the euros over the talentless wretch Petit. He was given a bench role because he isnt ready yet. Veloso has good potential, but he's been an almost non entity in big matches over the last year. He was barely visible against Everton for example.

I think its a knee jerk reaction,we don't need any more midfielders its just we have played those 2 teams when most of our key players are either injured or lacking match fitness.

Rodrigo Possebon will become a great player, just you watch.
And our "good midfielders" can still match any other teams. Scholes, Carrick, Hargreaves, Anderson and Fletcher who has improved a lot lately |

Fletcher, improved a lot lately? He's "always" been this good, just that people were suffering from the Fletchaldinho syndrome, the one where you have to be Brazilian to be appreciated - just look at Possebon, two cameos and he already has a song.

Juventus's Claudio Marchisio will become good, if we were going to take a couple of risks.
Ever Banega as well, except he is making sex tapes or getting drunk in his spare time. Michael Johnson's pretty good, the only problem is, though, is that he's a Manchester City player. Joćo Moutinho is available but we have Anderson. |

Fletcher has risen to the challenge this season, he's in good form and he'll be starting most games until Carrick's back IMO. He's the type of player we need: good in attack and adequate in defence. I'm of the opinion that we have too many midfielders that are either attacking or defensive, but not both. Fletcher fills that hole.
Possebon looks very talented. He always has time on the ball and can pick out good passes. With a bit more experience and some time in the gym he can turn out to be the next Keano (without the attitude). |

Neither player can help his nationality, you are bringing it in just because of some hang-up of your own.

Surprised no-one (as in a big Spanish, Iti or English side) has picked up Diego from Werder Bremen yet, he always stands out for me whenever I've seen him.
I also thought Ben Arfa is better than Marseille. I know he plays in a more forward role for them but he is a similar player to Kewell in his heyday at Leeds, ghosting in from the left to an attacking midfield role, linking the strikers. |

I've heard big things about how De La Red did at Getafe, but I hardly saw them last season. When I've seen him for Madrid and Spain, I havent been overly impressed.
On the subject of Ever Banega, silky smooth with great passing ability... And of course, being Argentine - A midget. |

Anderson, Carrick and Hargreaves will all be top player for us over the next few years, Hargreaves' injuries aside.
We still have strong back up from Fletcher, Possebon has shown glimpses of quality, and do not write Scholes off yet. I don't see the need to look at central mids for a couple years - until Scholes has gone, and if Anderson and Possebon have not progressed then we can look around. |
