Transfer window, January 2012

Deals are now being done and January begins this weekend, it is therefore fit and proper to begin a transfer window thread.

It is somewhat doubtful whether January 2011's window can be surpassed in money spent and for pulses racing on SSN - six deals for Torres, Carroll, Dzeko, Luiz, Suarez and Bent came to a combined £150 million of spending - only Chelsea have any real reason or need to go mental but if Liverpool needs a striker, if Redknapp needs six midfielders or if Ferguson wants to know what it is like to buy in January you'll never know where it will all lead.

Napoli have bought a dude. Some Chilean called Eduardo Vargas. He'll perhaps play against Chelsea. With Lavezzi being injured it's probable.

I'd imagine some activity from Chelsea and QPR at least. Liverpool should be desperate for a proper striker to compliment Suarez when he is playing, but also stand in for him when he is on his yearly long ban.

Great deal by Napoli right there. He might be, right now, the best player in South America.

Liverpool should try to swap Suarez for Van Wolfswinkel.

In all seriousness, if you were Newcastle and Liverpool offered Carroll for Ba, would you accept it. I'm not sure, if it wasn't for Ba's injury worries I definitely wouldn't, not sure what I would do as things are.

Need a striker and a similar player to Bale and Lennon (ie, one with pace) as backup/competition on the wings.

I think Arshavin will leave Arsenal and either join QPR or Juventus. Based of what I've heard. Also heard that QPR is looking to rid of Taarabt

Speaking of best players in South America, there's a centre back at Vasco called Dede. He looks a top prospect, wonder where he'll end up.

Wasn't he on his way towards PSG this summer? Could easily see that happening, if they're still interested after his antics that is.

Hopefully we'll see Macheda and Diouf go out on loans as well.

Isaac Cuenca - Barca. Apparently, we are keeping tabs on this lad. Anyone seen him play?

Yes, hes getting games for Barcelona. Which means he'll stay there.

Good at running at the fullback and getting good balls into the box

It really has been a while since there was a ridiculously gifted player who came out and said " Playing for Manchester United is my dream, I would like to play at OT one day" and meant it.

Don't young talents like United anymore? or is RM and Barca the in-thing now?

I believe so? Not quite sure off the top of my head. It's a matter of time before Diouf is sold and I agree, Macheda needs a loan.

Absolutely immense potential. Pretty raw at the moment but has all the ingredients to make the step up to that level and beyond. Was a joy watching him this past while.

Best player in the Brasileirao last year. Don't think he'll move this window. Big Libertadores campaign coming up for Vasco, very important to the club as they've just got back to the level they should be at after a poor few years(relegated etc). They've lined up some interesting signings already for it.

Navas would be superb but I thought he was the one that gets ridiculously homesick and can barely leave Seville, let alone Spain?

Oh should have added last night, Internacional's Oscar is still being heavily watched by Barca. I think he could move this window.

Fantastic prospect.

They're having already 7 strikers - Cole, Carew, Piquionne, Baldock, Sears, Nouble and Hall

5 strikers were on the bench against Derby.

I don't think Carroll fits Newcastle's style of play now. Carroll used to feed off Barton's crosses but Newcastle has evolved into a different team.

I wouldn't swap Ba for Carroll in a million years. Ba has better movement, more intelligent, better technique, better finisher. Just a much better player.
