Tunnicliffe and Wootton to Peterborough(Loan)

Quote:
Peterborough United have brought in young Manchester United pair Ryan Tunnicliffe and Scott Wootton on loan.

Midfielder Tunnicliffe, 18, and 19-year-old defender Wootton have yet to make their first-team United debuts.

Wootton, who switched to the Red Devils from the Liverpool academy in 2007, played nine times during a loan spell at Tranmere last season.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony confirmed the deals on Twitter.

"Gaffer just told me two United lads signed on loan, Tunnicliffe & Wooton signed up," he said on the social networking site.

The length of the loan spells has yet to be confirmed, but it is believed they will both be for the duration of the season.

Tunnicliffe played a key role in United's FA Youth Cup success last season, which culminated in victory over Sheffield United.
Good move for them. Intrigued to see how Tunnicliffe plays in the Championship,

Same here. I keep hearing good things about him. Now here's his chance to prove he's the real deal.

Was hoping he could get some Carling Cup minutes but I suppose this is better in the long term. Does it concern anyone that it looks like Fergie has just picked Peterborough because they're managed by his son and that he hasn't actually thought what club would be right for them?

A club's management is probably one of the major factors when considering which club would be right for them, though, and in that respect he's not going to get much better than a club managed by his own son.

Whilst he is undoubtedly helping his son, it also allows him to keep a closer eye on his players than we would be able to do with a normal loan. So no, not overly concerned, its not like he's not sending players there who are obviously a level above the Championship, eg. Welbeck

Not sure if Wootton is Championship-level yet, but hopefully he proves me wrong!

I thought we'd let Wootton go this summer.

Or you could look at it this way. Fergie believes a club being managed by his son is right for the player. They will work under a manager with similar philosophies and try to play a style of football that is quite familiar to ours. Also there's a much higher chance of them getting some decent playing time. Darren Ferguson will make sure their loan experience is worthwhile.

Great move for Tunnicliffe.

I like Wootton, but he first team chances are minimal now we have Smalling, Jones and Evans.

Good move for both of them. Wootton seems a good player at reserve level and will probably end up having a good career in the Chanpionship. I have very high hopes for Tunicliffe, but time will tell and he certainly needs to take his chances.

Tunny is doing quite well from what I hear, playing regularly and got praise from their manager on couple of occasions. It would be interesting to see what Peterborough supporters think about him.

Just got this email from a Peterbrough supporting mate

Quote:
Wootton is back at United undergoing treatment . . But think he has recovered & due back with us shortly. . . Looks pretty comfortable on the ball, just needs to get used to the physical challenge of 1st team football

Tunnicliffe has been playing a little more over the past few weeks. Just getting used to the speed & physical presence of the Championship but he looks to be a decent player in the making. Am sure he will benefit from 1st team football this season & possibly more Championship 1st team games next season will really propel him, just like Cleverley the past 2 seasons

Thanks!

Glad to hear something positive, and that he's not injured.

Wooton's been recalled

Quote:
Wootton Recalled By Manchester United

Defender Scott Wootton has been recalled by parent club Manchester United.

Wootton was due to stay at London Road until the end of the campaign and had been playing regularly at the base of the midfield diamond in skipper Grant McCann's absence.

With McCann now fit again, it was likely that Wootton would find himself back on the subs bench for the majority of the time; something that the defender was not too keen on.

As such, both clubs have mutually agreed that he return to Old Trafford.

Boss Darren Ferguson said to Peterborough United | PUFC Scores, News, Transfers, Fixtures 'It is a joint decision to be honest. I had a chat with Scott and he felt he wasn't really playing enough games, so I was happy to let him go back to Old Trafford.'

It comes as a bit of a surprise as Posh no longer have any central defensive back-up to the current first team and many people felt he would make a good signing come the end of the season.
