to be frank, i dont really fancy silvestre except for his good long diagonal passes. He's clumsy at times and have poor positioning in the team.
But i really respect his loyalty. He hardly complained being a sub (albeit he's injured most fo the time). and he even gave united a lot of credit when he left us. good luck, son (except against us). |

That's the weirdest transfer ever. What's the point of this transfer from Silvestre's point of vie?. Whether you are an alternative to Evra or Clichy, it doesn't matter. But whatever, he was a great and loyal servant to this club and I thank him for all he did for us. Not that he will be desperately missed but I would prefer to keep him as an option. |

At United he was behind Brown, Evans and possibly Gaz as a CB. As a LB he was perhaps behind Evans and Fabio and Rafael as an Evra alternative. A good move for him. I wish him well. His appearance for Ar$enal will mean that someone better is out.. |

Nail on the head don. Oh my God! Ooooo no!!!
Feck sake. It's like your old guitar or something you like but haven't used for ages. It's hard to get rid of it but some of the reactions on this thread have been priceless. Feck sake, he was always going to be a back up player and most know who have watched United play that he was extremely prone to making serious errors at the back. I got a chill of fear down my spine whenever I saw him take to the pitch |

I dont know, the exact details of it. It could be something else though. Who knows maybe SAF wasn't keen to see Mickey leave on free or maybe Mickey had asked for a transfer himself. There again, this is not my point, my point is that if Mickey had remained he would have been Evra's 1st choice cover.

Silvestre eyes regular role
Mikael Silvestre hopes his transfer to Arsenal from Manchester United will present him with more first-team opportunities this season.
The French defender secured a shock move to Emirates Stadium on Wednesday for an undisclosed fee, penning a two-year deal. Silvestre spent the majority of last campaign at Old Trafford on the sidelines through injury, but is now looking to push for a regular playing role at his new club. "I am very glad to be here and it is an honour to finally sign for Arsenal," the 31-year-old told Arsenal TV. "It was a big surprise, but a very good surprise in the end. I left United especially because I didn't want to spend anymore time on the bench. "I was looking for a new challenge and when Arsenal come you cannot say no. Hopefully I can look forward to a fresh start without any injuries." Meanwhile, United centre-back Nemanja Vidic has admitted he was shocked to hear that Silvestre had completed a switch to the Premier League champions' rivals. "It surprised me. In fact I think it has come as a surprise to everyone," he said. "It is not often a player leaves one big club to go to another like Arsenal or Liverpool. It does not tend to happen. "But Mikael did not play much last year and I think he just wanted to go somewhere where he would, so in that sense I am happy for him. "Mikael has given so much to this club. I am just surprised he is going to Arsenal. But he has made the choice." http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195...025714,00.html |

Vidic stunned by Silvestre move
Nemanja Vidic admitted Mikael Silvestre has stunned all his old Manchester United team-mates by signing for Premier League rivals Arsenal. After looking close to joining Sunderland and Manchester City, Silvestre eventually jumped at the chance of playing under Arsene Wenger, ending a nine-year association with the Old Trafford outfit by signing a two-year contract for a £750,000 transfer fee. It is the first direct transfer between the two clubs since 1987, when Viv Anderson moved north to become one of Sir Alex Ferguson's first recruits as United boss, and Vidic can still scarcely believe it. "It surprised me. In fact I think it has come as a surprise to everyone," he said. "It is not often a player leaves one big club to go to another like Arsenal or Liverpool. It does not tend to happen. "But Mikael did not play much last year and I think he just wanted to go somewhere where he would, so in that sense I am happy for him." Vidic has grown close to the former France international during his own two-and-a-half year stint. And, while it was obvious Silvestre's first-team chances at United were strictly limited, Vidic believes the 31-year-old is still a class act. "He has been here a long time and he still deserves to play at the highest level," said the Serbian. "Mikael has given so much to this club. I am just surprised he is going to Arsenal. But he has made the choice." Vidic can look forward to pitting his wits against Silvestre later in the season. For now he can look ahead to Monday's trip to Portsmouth, where United tend to struggle but need to get their title defence back on track after an opening day draw with Newcastle. The Fratton Park encounter will represent Vidic's 101st appearance for the Old Trafford outfit, having chalked up the century against Kevin Keegan's Newcastle last weekend. Patrice Evra is exactly the same having also joined during the January transfer window in 2006. Given both men made their debuts in a disastrous defeat at Manchester City it is little wonder they now look back and shake their heads considering both are recognised as being among the top Premier League defenders and were integral figures in the side that won the Champions League last season. "We speak about it quite often," said Vidic. "Neither of us started well and we used to say we wanted to leave. We can laugh about it now because we have both reached 100 games. "I am really pleased. I have worked hard to achieve that and I would like to play many more games for United." |

Good signing for them, quality cover & gives them an insight inside OT. I can't believe SAF let him go there without there being something in it for us - maybe Wenger is going to let us take Adebayor, or Bendtner of their hands.

I figure it went down like this... Keane inquired about Silvestre and he was open to a move to get regular first team matches... then suddenly Wenger finds out and his penchant for frogs sees him ask for permission to talk to Silvestre... and of course Mickey will take playing for Arsenal over Sunderland as would any player worth a damn. United take the money and run vice losing him for nothing later.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed Mikael Silvestre was on the verge of joining Manchester City before The Gunners stole in to seal the surprise signing.
The 31-year-old Frenchman left Manchester United in a £750,000 transfer to become the first player to be traded between United and Arsenal since Brian Kidd in 1974. Despite the animosity which has existed between the two clubs down the years, Wenger is adamant that negotiations were simple. He said: “How easy is it to do business with Manchester United? Easy. And we are very pleased to have got him. “If you tell him he can go for that price and without any restrictions you cannot stop him. “He’s 31, for a striker that’s quite a reasonable age, but for a central defender he’s still good. “Central defenders can play until 34 at the top level without any problems." Silvestre was undergoing a medical at City before learning late of Arsenal’s interest. “He was in advanced talks with Manchester City already,” said Wenger. “I don’t know whether he finished the medical or not, he can explain to you, but I heard he was completely free.” http://sport.setanta.com/en/Sport/Ne...-on-Silvestre/ |
