United after 15 yr old Norwegian
The young and promising Magnus Wolff Eikrem have been training with United for a few years aldready - since he was 12, on short visits where he has impressed the United training staff. The Molde FK wonder kid are said to be signing with ManU the next few months, when he turns 16 and can be a proffesional.
Eikrem are already a U16 international for Norway, and are a talented midfielder who has been playing on Moldes 2nd team this season. The player have been picked through Ole Gunnar Solskjærs football academy, and of course, Solskjær himself came to United from Molde FK. Has to be said, if a Norwegian has a quality sounding name then he's more or less guarenteed to be a godlike footie player. We've seen Ole Gunnar already, we're long overdue for a Magnus or a Wolff, never mind a Magnus Wolff

Molde have warned Manchester United off making a move for one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's prodigies.
The United striker, who will undertake more coaching duties at Old Trafford next term, is thought to have recommended Magnus Wolff Eikrem to Sir Alex Ferguson, after he was discovered at the 33-year-old's soccer school. Molde, the club who sold Solskjaer to United in 1996, are keen to hang onto Eikrem as he is still only 15 years old and, they feel, too young to be heading for Manchester. "I have nothing to say about this, except that we want to keep him at Molde," director Tarje Nordstrand told Nettavisen. "We consider it natural that he will stay here and develop further and, when he is good enough, he takes the step abroad. "I don't want to comment if I have received an offer from Manchester United." Norwegian sources claim Eikrem has already had a number of trials with The Red Devils and is set to be offered a contract when he turns 16, which is later this year. |

Wouldn't surprise me if Chelsea came in for him now tbh, it seems they'll sign any youngster now if he's reasonably talented, it's neccessary with them around when scouting out youth prospects to keep it all below radar. Happened to have a look at Chelsea's youth squad a while ago and they had like 10 new youngsters they'd signed from around Europe, and since then I've read of them signing something like 10 others. Of course, hardly any will stand a chance of getting near their first team, they're just in storage, they're trying to neutralize the market I think, which is quite ambitious

A quick translation for you mf`s who don`t understand norwegian
http://www.dagbladet.no/sport/2006/06/16/469052.html Magnus (15) ready for United Magnus Wolff Eikrem (15) moves from Molde FK to Manchester, according to Romsdals Budstikke. The teenager sets for Manchester in july to train with Uniteds youth team. When he turns 16 years on the 8th of august he will sign a two year contract with the squad. Eikrem has turned down an offer from Molde, but the club will still get compensation for the talent. - Molde FK has the right to get a significant fee as a compensation, but this is a discussion we will have with Manchester United very soon, tells agent Jim Solbakken. Eikrem has been on several visits in Manchester and impressed the club. |

And this bit as well:
http://www.vg.no/pub/vgart.hbs?artid=119861 KEPT UNITED TRANSFER A SECRET Magnus Wolff Eikrem has been ready for Manchester United for a month, but kept it a secret. Moldes wonderkid Magnus Wolff Eikrem signs a deal with Manchester United shortly after turning 16 in august, and with that becomes the fifth norwegian in the clubs history. Precious players includes Henning Berg, Ronny Johnsen, Erik Nevland and current player Ole Gunnar Solskjær. Magnus has know of the transfer for a month now, but did choose to not tell anyone. - I didn`t want anyone to know, he tells VG Nett. Magnus was at summer camp with his classmates when the news broke, and he expects some attention the following days. - I guess there will be some fuzz for a day or so, and then everything goes back to normal, Eikrem says, before signing the same kind of contract David Beckham got when he first came to United. Magnus has trained with United half a dozen times already, since first being spotted through Ole Gunnar Solkskjærs talent school in 2004. He has played 2. division football with Moldes reserve team, but turned down an offer from Molde to go to Manchester. - Molde gave me a great offer, but I think I will become a better footballer in United. If I thought Molde could give me the chance to become better, I would have stayed. United is the best club in the world and the best club a young player could be part of, says the 15 year old. In Manchester he will stay with a host family he already knows well from his previous visits. He has also a few friends on the youth team. - I know quite a few of them and knows the club already. I think it will be a difficult start but things will probably get easier after a while. If you think Magnus is a Manchester United supporter, you will have to think again. - I`m a Tottenham fan! But, of course, I have a dream to play for Manchester United, says Magnus who sets for England already next month. |

United get moaned at for not getting the kids when they're young, then get moaned at for signing them early.
Come on, it's a great deal. Who cares. |

Whats all the fuss about
Arsenal do this all the time how many french or african schoolboys do they have on their books and how many portuguese schoolboys do chelsea have?
The footballing genius that is howard wilkinson had his second greatest moment of pure genius(only eclipsed by selling eric for a million) when he introduced the 90 minute rule meaning that clubs could only sign schoolboys that live within 90 minute radius so that clubs like united cant always sign the best british schoolboy talent and have to look abroad where this rule doesn't apply. We will never see a player like beckham(united mad younger londoner) coming through our ranks again. Arsenal were the first to realise this and at least now were following suit. I live in south yorkshire a mere 40 miles from Old Trafford yet it takes a couple of hours to get there this shows the how restrictive this stupid rule is. I'd like to add that the year below me at school had a great side one player went to manchester United(some of you who know your stuff may remember Paul Teather from youth or reserve games) Wilkinson took no less than 7 to leeds. Now rotherham to leeds is about the same distance as rotherham to manchester but you can get to leeds much quicker as its straight up the M1 and you dont have to cross the pennines. So if I or any Reds from more than 90 minutes away want to see our sons play for united we'll have to move. |

For some reason he reminds me of the little weedy teenage Keano with the big head, and also, Keano was born in the 10th of August, Magnus on the 8th, the significance of these two points needs no explaining, gentlemen, destined for greatness is Magnus
