United scout Croatian duo

Quote:
Manchester United are on the trail of Croatian teenage starlets Mateo Kovacic and Mario Situm and will have them watched this weekend.

United's Balkan scout will be in attendance at the Stadion Poljud in Split when the young duo line up for Dinamo Zagreb in one of the hottest rivalries in European football against Hajduk Split.

Reds scouts were alerted to the 17-year-old midfielder Kovacic and 19-year-old striker Situm recently, but United will be among several big clubs represented at the game.

Kovacic has been likened to Barcelona's Lionel Messi back in Croatia and reports claim he will be out of contract in the summer, although Dinamo are in talks to tie him down to a new deal.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger sent his chief scout Bobby Bennett to watch the pair in action against Osijek back in August and reported back in glowing terms after seeing Kovacic score once and Situm twice in a 4-0 Dinamo win
So any Croat caftards tell us about them?

Kovacic

Situm

There's something in the Kovacic name making him sounds like a real deal.

Probably a slow news day! The fact is that scouts continiously monitor and watch lots of players who are on their (geographical) radar.

Precisely. Unknown foreign players, Messi like comparisons, young, gifted and talented and will probably end up at some Italian squad, whilst we are only linked with them to get the clubs/players a better deal, plus Arsenal have supposedly checked them out. It has it all.

Mateo Kovacic is labelled as Dinamo best youth prospect ever and for a club that produced Robert Prosinecki, Zvonimir Boban, Luka Modric just to name a few that's pretty impressive. He can play all position is midfield although he's best suited as attacking midfielder. He should be next Croatian top player but God knows what future brings and it's up to him to fulfil enormous potential he's been given. So far he broke few records like being youngest debutant and youngest goalscorer in Croatian top division (at the age of 16) as well as being Dinamo youngest captain ever at the age of 17.

Mario Šitum is classic winger forward, with great skills and many tricks to show. He has that positive arrogance on the field and doesn't fear anyone. He also has good eye for a goal and doesn't hesitate from shooting from a distance.

They are nowhere near United quality at the moment, but given the talent they have at least one of them should make it and my money is on Kovacic to do it. His vision and creativity is something that aparts him from the rest of the players his age and has great work ethick should make a great player out of him.

Badelj is already formed player, also great product of the Dinamo youth set-up. His best position is CM although he plays on the left for Dinamo due to the diamond formation theirs coach prefers. Badelj has glimpses of Zvonimir Boban in his play, has great last pass and technique and he's very creative. Althoug Sammir is considered as best player in Dinamo, Badelj is captain and a man who keeps everything ticking in the right way. He's very good player but non United quality I'm afraid, really like him as a player but he's not the player I could ever imagine playing for United.

The Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been linked with the highly talented Croatian star Mateo Kovacic, but according to the youngster’s agent Arsenal are facing competition from from Alex Ferguson’s Man Utd team, who are currently bringing lots of talented youngsters from all over the world to Old Trafford.

Kovavic currently plays for Dinamo Zagreb and although only 17 he is a regular starter and is on record as the youngster ever player to captain the Croatian giants. His agent Marcel Kacinari was asked yesterday about reported rumours that Juventus had been sniffing around hoping to do a deal.

“I will not hide the fact there was interest from Juventus a couple of months ago but nothing since then,” Kacinari said. “It is most likely that he will go to England where the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United are leading the race. Dinamo Zagreb have done business in the past with several Premier League teams.”

“Those clubs [Arsenal and Manchester United] are spending a lot of money investing in young talent and have the patience to wait.”

“All the major European clubs are following him and with him playing against Real Madrid on Wednesday, the list of suitors will increase.”

They are first team players there, aren't they? Which means it might take a little fortune to take them off Croats hands seeing as they charged Tottenham £16.5m for Modric. Neither of them will come close to that obviously because they have nowhere near the experience of Modric but they will still want to earn their money on two players they brought up through their own academy.

Some daft references in this thread comparing them to the Serbian kids. Also, trying to windup Serbian posters needs to stop.

Yes but i thought it was Kiev playing Madrid not Zagreb. Also a 17 year old playing a good match against Madrid wouldn't have gone unnotieced by Madrid as well.

Mateo Kovacic 'favours Manchester United over Arsenal transfer'
Manchester United are set to pip Arsenal to the signing of the ‘new Luka Modric’ – Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly confident of seeing off the challenge from the Gunners – as well as other European giants like Juventus and Bayern Munich – because of the 17-year-old’s personal desire to move to Old Trafford.

‘United have made it clear they are looking at Kovacic in a big way and they think he is a future star,’ a source told Goal.com.

‘His age and price tag means January will probably be too soon but the feedback is that the player's preference would be a move to Old Trafford and United are favourites to sign him.’

Kovacic, who has been likened to Spurs schemer Modric, was slapped with a £10m price tag by Dinamo in order to scare off interest from Arsene Wenger, who was closely monitoring the midfielder’s situation in the summer.

However, after the Gunners baulked at the original quote, United feel they’ll have plenty of time to make their move for Kovacic at the end of the season, rather than rushing through a deal in January.

The player himself also gave encouraging signs to United last month, when he revealed he was flattered by their interest in him.
It's on!
