Veloso or Moutinho?

In this fictional scenario, we've had a bid accepted by Sporting for one of their star midfielders, but their chairman informs us that he'll only sell us either Veloso or Moutinho, not both. The other might stay at Sporting, might move on to a different club, who knows, but he won't be coming to us.

Who would you take?

Personally, I'd probably take Moutinho. He's looked more the part at the moment (though that's not to say Veloso hasn't looked great, too), and I think he'd compliment Anderson well. It might be our future midfield pairing -- Anderson to be combatitive in midfield and make driving runs forward, Moutinho to be more relaxed and elegantly stroke the ball around.

Of course, I don't think we'll sign either, and I'm not sure if we need either, but I do expect at least one of the two (if not both) to move on this summer after the Euros. Even if it isn't to us.

moutinho.

moutinho hs been sporting captain for 2 years now, he's shown the talent for years now.

those who watch football outside of the premiership have known about this kid for a while. he was linked to arsenal when he was 18-19. we certainly have known about him for a long time with our sporting links.

i've rated him for a while, but i have been even more impressed the way he has cemented his position in the portugal first XI. the only reason why we would not go in for him is that we are pretty deep in midfield. other than that, i really can't see how we haven't a move for him yet due to our sporting links.

i think he'll end up at chelsea with scolari with deco going to inter.

Moutinho is the better player atm, that said is Veloso is a good player himslef, and who knows who will be better in a few years; would rather have others over them at the moment though(crowded positions) get a good lead striker and RB

They're not exactly the same type of players though are they? Veloso is more of a holding player a la Carrick while Moutinho is the more creative and attacking one a la the young Scholesy.

We don't need either one as Carrick is better than Veloso, while Anderson is better than Moutinho.

And improving rapidly Two years from now who knows how good Anderson will be, was shocked when we got him, expected Nani, but when the Anderson transfer popped up, it made me realize United were as big as ever. People who don't rate this guy, don't watch him, reckons he hits the back of the net more than once when it matter this year (4-6 depending), that said I hope one of them is in the CL final just like this year, although my heart prefers it be early in the match LOL

They are both going to end up being important players for top clubs. And what makes such a choice difficult is their contrasting styles.

In my opinion Moutinho looks far more ready for such a top club. And he does perhaps the one thing our midfield didnt do last season - Take the game by the scruff of the neck and dictate it as well as getting beyond the strikers into goal scoring areas. He looks a bit of a mix between Deco and Scholes - as Deco has never had a good or even decent scoring record and Scholes isnt a dribbler, which is something Moutinho can do.

However, Veloso is a rarer type of player in my opinion. In a few years he'll be as solid and competative as Hargreaves defensively, but twice as good on the ball. I'm not sure there are many other players in his mold out there.

So one or both of them will be at top clubs in the next 2 years and we may end up looking at them with envy.

Veloso would be a good understudy to hargreaves/carrick and allow both of them to either take a rest, or push more forward. I believe anderson is going to fill the scholes role once he settles down as the kid is able to beat people and pick out a pass.

Fuck it, how much would both cost us, or atleast one and the other to come the following year? (that way both will still continue to devlop thier footballing.)

more likely to say veloso as we actually need another orthodox DM in the squad(I have a feeling that OH will often be employed wide this season). However thats only if I was pushed to sign 1. I actually think we should be looking to promote Posembon to the first team squad and give him a chance at DM.

As for signing moutinho we have anderson who used to regularly come out top in CM battles with him so we in short we have everything we need in that area.

I think both still have it too prove. Veloso is quite versatile. A very good set piece taker too. Moutinho looks a smart player but at the moment neither

Moutinho is the type of player who is very humble, will do what the manager wants even if not playing in his favourite position, and doesn´t like to talk to the press. Very down to earth guy.

Veloso has the typical superstar mentality. If he doesn´t like something, you can bet he´ll tell it. And he´ll tell it very often. You will also find him in all fashion events and high class parties.

They´re both great talents tough. I think Moutinho is slightly better at the moment but Veloso´s potential is there.

If this is true, it's good insight. I would have thought it was the other way around, atm Moutinho is the better player as he starts for Portugal where as Veloso barely gets a game, but both are talented
