Yann M’Vila

MANCHESTER UNITED have joined the £15million battle for France midfielder Yann M’Vila.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, along with his assistant Mike Phelan, made a personal check on M’Vila, 20, in Rennes’ 2-0 home defeat against Marseille on Friday night.

Fergie was there to assess Marseille, whose goals came from Loic Remy and Lucho Gonzalez, ahead of Tuesday night’s Champions League match at Old Trafford.

But the Daily Star Sunday can reveal that the United boss also took the opportunity to see M’Vila (right) – the new hot property in France.

Also keeping an eye on the powerful defensive midfielder on Friday were Liverpool’s talent-spotter Damien Comolli and Tottenham assistant- manager Kevin Bond.

And Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho has also declared his interest in M’Vila, who has established himself in the France team this season after representing his country at every level from Under-16s.

M’Vila will be delighted at United’s interest, though.

He has gone on record to reveal: “Manchester United is the club of my dreams.

“It is a very prestigious club and I dream to play for them.”

If Owen Hargreaves fails to win his fight for fitness, M’Vila would look to be the ideal replacement for the England midfielder in the United squad.

M’Vila is valued at £15m but as interest grows, so could the fee demanded by Rennes.

One top scout told the Daily Star Sunday: “Yann’s in such demand the bidding could end up being closer to £20m.”Yann M’Vila

Him having a great match vs Marseille certainly didn't hurt his chances of a big move. What I like about him is that at 20 years of age he's already strong as an ox, but he also possesses great technique and he can win the ball back with a tackle one moment and then straight away split the defense open with a killer pass.

Daily Star has of course picked out the more preferable quotes, but the man has also gone on record he sees Marseille and Lyon as his next step forward and he's not willing to sit on the bench at a top European club.

Devil may care 13th March 2011 17:15

Athletic, young, powerful and steely, pretty much ideal for us.

Alex 13th March 2011 17:19

I rate him very highly

If he's decent then he won't sit on the bench at United, we are probably the best team to join for talented young midfielders right now due to our lack of genuine quality in that particular area of the pitch and we are a big club as well.

I read that we've watched Rennes a few times this season. I've only seen him play once for France v England and he was extremely impressive.

What do the French League followers think of him? Is he suited to the Premiership?

Fantastic player.

Exactly the kind of mid fielder we need.

I think he is only 20 but already pretty good.

Will be a star in future.

(I have never seen him play, sorry)

Let's wait for kourux to give a report...

Actually, he was linked with Liverpool for quite some time if I wasn't mistaken. FM stats are totally over the moon.

Donut 13th March 2011 22:31

It's going to be Rodwell or M'villa not both right? They're similar?

If we even go for them.

From another thread:
This kid is amazingly mature for his age.By far the most consistent french player since Laurent Blanc took over. He's just 18 but plays the game as if he's 30 years old.
No one tbh. He's one of kinda, he can pass and is a master at intercepting the ball.He [rarely] gets into dirty challenges and he always keeps things simple

Not at all.Toulalan is one of the dirtiest players in the ligue 1, if he can recover the ball and clatter he won' t hesitate. He always collects a high number of yellow card.Plus M'Vila is already better than him in every single aspect of the game.
M'Vila is also more than just a DM, he's a proper box to box
Jason F 14th March 2011 01:02

I read the same story in the Mail I think, where it was worded that SAF travelled to watch M'Vila. Interesting that it was in a game against Marseille, no chance he was there to watch them play then?

RedRonaldo 14th March 2011 05:16

Sounds promising.

amolbhatia100 14th March 2011 07:29

Those posts from Kourox makes him sound a slightly more defense minded Essien.

No chance then :(

yamo123x 14th March 2011 10:00

Would be an ideal signing- we need legs in the middle and are crying out for a ball winner.

Diablodave 14th March 2011 10:23

To be honest, theres 22 players on the pitch, theres no indication he was there for M'Vila, id say more to see how they lined up.
Since we have played Marseille i have seen us linked with a few of their players since!

amolbhatia100 14th March 2011 10:24

Fergie often watches our future opponents a game before. No big deal.

MancFanFromManc 14th March 2011 13:29

Just watched a few youtube clips. like the way he plays a pass-n-move game. Very Scholes-esc. didnt see him ping any 50 yarders onto a pin head tho, but looked handy enough at first glance

Yeah its standard media bollox to do that. Where ever Fergie's going, pick on a random player who has some potential in a position we need strengthening..... so pretty much everyone at the mo :p

Oh cop on. The only foreigner who hasn't already been proven in the PL we signed for 25m+ turned out to be a wonderful purchase didn't he?

M'Vila is good, but £25m good? I think the only foreigner we'd pay 25m+ for is Sanchez, because he's almost nailed on to be one of the worlds best in a few years.

Brwned 6th May 2011 09:25
We would never compete with Chelsea and go to £25m. Oh well.
Why would you take tribalfootball seriously?

He's really exceptional for his age and position, and unlike many in his position is very easy on the eye with his fluidity of movement and composure on the ball combined with aggression and intelligence. If we can pay £17m for a 26-year old Hargreaves I think we would at least consider paying £20m+ for a 20-year old M'Vila.

Would people be disappointed if we spent big money on a midfielder like him (stopping us from buying a more creative one)?

Cina 6th May 2011 09:29

I never said I took it seriously, of course not. Merely saying that we'd not go 25m+ for him. I'd be delighted if we got him too, I just don't think we'd pay mass amounts of money like that. £20m or less? Hells yes. 25m+? Unlikely.

Defour is as good, though he's 3 years older. He'd also cost a fair bit less.

Brwned 6th May 2011 09:41

Have you seen much of M'Vila?

£25m in today's market is far less that what we paid relatively for Nani or Anderson and few years ago; two teenage foreigners with no Premier League experience whatsoever. To put it simply, I'm tired of hearing from people what we definitively will and will not pay for players, as if anyone except those in charge of the club has any idea as as to our transfer intentions. So cop on, you don't know shit.

Cina 6th May 2011 10:08
Have you seen much of M'Vila?
I've seen 8 or 9 games, mainly for France. He's looked impressive at times and yeah he'd be a very good fit, is he the midfielder we need? Fuck knows, I don't know what we need in the center of that park really. He's defensively awesome, but not particularly effective in attack, so paying huge money on him is then relying heavily on Anderson become the brilliant attacker we know he can be.

I still think we need a box-to-box more, though they can be hard to actually define at times. I'd call Defour one, he's also a natural born leader and he'd be a better fit (in my opinion) than M'Vila, though maybe not as technically gifted in some aspects, mainly defensively

I'm sure you've seen more because you always seem to have seen more of these players than anyone else.

I'm not saying we haven't got the money to spend, but 25m+ is still a LOT of money. We don't know if our actual transfer policy has changed either now, do we, seeing as we've not bought really big since the Hargo, Anderson, Nani Summer, and back then we paid less than 20m for all 3, actually Anderson might have been dead on 20m.

Yeah there's been inflation, but will Sir Alex fall into it? We all have opinions, you think he will, I think we won't.

Agree with Brwned

RedSky At Night 6th May 2011 10:23

I have no issues paying top dollar for a young player as he'll hopefully be at the club for many years. I've not seen much of M'Villa, but he strikes me as the type of player that fits our purchasing strategy of late.

Lynk 6th May 2011 11:15

He's class in FM2011, won the Copa Del Rey with him in my midfield.
According to reports Manchester United are favourites to land Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila.

French sources claim Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan are all chasing the France international.

However, it is understood that United are leading the way after making contact with Rennes about a fee for M'Vila which is mooted to be around £15 million.

It is believed that United boss Sir Alex Ferguson views M’Vila as the ideal replacement for Owen Hargreaves who is out of contract in the summer and looks set to leave Old Trafford given his numerous injury problems.
I'm not sure whether the last line is a dig or misplaced praise.

I think you should give him a watch for Rennes because for me he takes on a completely different role, the vast majority of their play goes through him so much more than it does for France I think and it shows a different side to him.

That being said he is still very clearly more prominent in deeper areas of the pitch - with and without the ball - than Defour so I can't argue there, if you think we need that type of midfielder more then I can't argue!

The one thing we know is that if you want to be a successful midfielder here you have to play a bit too, Sir Alex has never seemed interested in the Makelele's or Mascherano's, and we know both of these can.

Ekeke 12th May 2011 18:48

The part about playing a different role for Rennes is very appealing, as watching him for France he certainly hasnt shown me any more passing ability than Mascherano. Although I tend to suggest Mascherano is a better passer than most give him credit for on here.

While we're on him though, didnt we say we were looking at him before West Ham took him on loan but we werent sure of the third party ownership? Then Liverpool signed him before we went in for Tevez.

Devil may care 12th May 2011 20:02

I haven't seen enough of him to give a thorough view but the times I have seen him I've been impressed by his positional sense and his athletic mobility, as Brwned said he has a fluidity to his movement not often seen in a player who plays his role.

The thing is recently Carrick has played his best football in two seasons playing with a creator like Giggs, when I think of M'Vila I think of him competing with Carrick for the same role rather than offering us a younger creative compliment to Carrick.

VoetbalWizard 12th May 2011 20:45

what's he like compared to lassana diarra lads?

ability wise, lets not get into a discussion on diarra's whinging.
