Yet another striker: Luis Fabiano

Fabiano Tops United's Transfer Targets

Manchester United are preparing to swoop for Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano this summer, according to reports…

The Brazil international has jumped to the top of Sir Alex Ferguson’s wish-list following high recommendation from the United boss’ brother Martin, the club’s European scout.

Chief scout Jim Lawlor has backed the move, while coach Mike Phelan travelled to Spain last week to watch the 27-year-old in action during Sevilla’s 3-0 win over Racing Santander.

The Red Devils now head a pack containing the likes of Manchester City, Roma, Tottenham and Real Madrid as the race for the former Sao Paulo man’s signature heats up.

Fabiano has been constantly linked with a move away from Andalusia this year, amid speculation of a bust-up between he and coach Manuel Jiminez and contractual issues concerning third-party ownership and buy-out clauses.

The Rojiblancos have set an astronomical price of ₤44 million for their star striker, who has scored 33 goals in 38 appearances this season, but it is understood the actual price could be as low as ₤7 million due to a release clause in the player’s contract.

Such a thrifty purchase would leave plenty of spending money for United to pursue their other targets, including Fabiano’s compatriot and team-mate Dani Alves, who has been tagged along with Porto defender Jose Bosingwa and Manchester City youngster Micah Richards to fill the right-back slot at Old Trafford.

Same age as Berbatov. But a lot cheaper. It's more likely if we do sign a striker that it would be in that price range.

Story also in the Daily Mail:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1779

Additional infor:

Fabiano's price means United would still have the resources to strengthen elsewhere.

They maintain an interest in Spurs' Dimitar Berbatov but have reservations about his workrate, while they are still keen to recruit a right-sided midfielder and a full-back.

Wigan's Luis Valencia is an option as is Manchester City's Micah Richards, who fears he could be sold this summer to boost City's spending power.

United hope to raise more funds by offloading Louis Saha and Gerard Pique, who wants to return to Spain.

Nope, our no9 should be of the highest quality.

I dont doubt that he will be; Fergie has not been afraid to fork out large sums of money when he thinks the player fits (Carrick and Hargreaves), or has world class potential (Anderson and Nani). The importance of a (new) striker is not appreciated by some people.

He'd be third choice. He would score goals and lead the line a bit, but Tevez and Rooney are better players, for sure.

Also, I say "lead the line a bit" because he has pace and can play on the last shoulder well - but he has Kanoute as his partner, a player who is much better at holding up the ball than he is.

He thinks he's "average" because he doesnt really have any stand out qualities, aside from finishing. Everything is just about enough to score his goals. He's a decent dribbler, but not great. He has good pace, but not great. He has decent technique but not great. His heading is good but not great. His freekicks are good but not great. So on and so forth.

His record this season speaks for itself however. If we did sign him, he'd score goals - He just wouldnt be someone that people wank over whilst watching like a Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez at his best, Berbatov, Benzema or Torres. He's more direct and to the point. He'd just offer goals and a little bit of movement.

He failed to make an impact both in France and in Portugal + his attitude sucks.

Why do we need a right-sided midfielder? We have Ronaldo, Park and Nani..

He is not a great striker, but at 7m I would take him, as the 4th striker only. I´d still hope for someone of Benzema´s calibre.

Now thats a dream world.

Anyone who is 2nd top scorer in one of the top 3 leagues in this world, would not be coming in to be 4th choice striker.

He is a very questionable character, and is certainly not someone I’d want in our dressing room.

Yeah when Ashton gets fit enought to match fabiano's scoring record then you can claim that as much as you want.

Ashton isnt injury-prone, he's had a few nasty injuries, but these havent been consistent. Besides he already has a fantastic goalscoring record, championship or no championship.

How many 'third choice' strikers are we going to have?

There's already Manucho, Campbell and Welbeck.

Why all the negative talk regarding Fabiano? For £7m I would be very surprised if you could get a striker of the same quality. Let's not all kid ourselves that we can spend upwards of £35m this coming summer on one player alone (Benzema - who is overrated imo).

let's see after the season ends who is the real striker we want. All these rumours are not helping at all.

Im pretty sure that Fergie have analized the options and have one on mind, he is just waiting for the season to end and go for him inmediately.
