Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, commonly referred to simply as Tottenham or Spurs (and nicknamed The Lilywhites), are a professional football club based in Tottenham, London. The Hotspur Football Club was formed in 1882 by a group of school boys, mostly aged 13 to 14, from Tottenham Grammar School and Saint John's Middle Class School who were members of the Hotspur Cricket Club formed two years earlier. Initially, the boys that formed Hotspur Football Club played games between themselves and friendly matches against other local clubs. The team entered their first cup competition in the London Association Cup, and won their first competitive match on 17 October 1885. The club turned professional on 20 December 1895, and in the summer of 1896 they were admitted to the Division One of the Southern League. On 2 March 1898, the club also became a limited company, the Tottenham Hotspur Football and Athletic Company.

Tottenham were the first club in the 20th century to achieve the League and FA Cup Double, winning both competitions in the 1960-61 season. After successfully defending the FA Cup in 1962, in 1963 they became the first British club to win a UEFA club competition – the European Cup Winners' Cup. In 1967, Spurs won the FA Cup for a third time in the 1960s. In the 1970s Tottenham won the League Cup on two occasions and were the inaugural winner of the UEFA Cup in 1972, becoming the first British club to win two different major European trophies. In the 1980s Spurs won several trophies: the FA Cup twice, FA Community Shield and the UEFA Cup in 1984. In the 1990s the club won the FA Cup and the League Cup. When they won the League Cup once more in 2008, it meant that they had won a major trophy in each of the last six decades – an achievement only matched by Manchester United.

Tottenham supporters have rivalries with several clubs, mainly within the London area. The fiercest of these is with north London rivals Arsenal (with matches between them termed the North London derby). They also share notable rivalries with fellow London clubs Chelsea and West Ham United. Tottenham currently play their home games at Wembley Stadium - with White Hart Lane being dismantled to make way for a new stadium as a part of the Northumberland Development Project.

This'll go one of two ways. We'll grind yet another 1-0 win against this lot, or we get humiliated.

Can we just start with Lukaku and Fellaini up top from the get go? Hoofing it to them is all we know how to do so let's just try and build around it.

Honestly I think United could be on a 20 game losing streak, and I'd still expect you to beat us at Old Trafford. Seems like every season you go in with poor form to this game, yet manage to win, it's infuriating. Fully expect all your defensive organisation to be back for this one after it was non-existent against Brighton. We've started well results wise with two wins, but has only been Newcastle and Fulham and neither performance was sparkling.

Then again, our record at the Bridge/Anfield was awful and we managed a win and a draw last season, so who knows. I think the reaction we see from you will show whether the team is behind Jose, or if he's genuinely lost the dressing room.

We’ll lose this one as well because we are gutless and managed by a useless cnut.

I'd be happy with 3 shots on target never mind 3 points.

Another 8 days for a game. WTF!

All I have to say is I hope we can avoid a humiliation. Seeing them all over us for most of the game would be utterly depressing.

    Lads, It's Tottenham!

    We're winning this.

We're so predictable when it comes to results.

Alli and Kane have more touches in the opponents penalty box (31) than the entire Manchester United squad (30). Tottenham have a total of 75 touches so far.

I just mentioned this in Fellaini thread, but i genuinely think we should do this. Play what is effective for us and gives us higher chance of winning the game.

Every fiber of my being says that Spurs should have the run of this match.

Which means we'll probably win 2-0.

Have Spurs ever humiliated a top side away from home over the last years? They aren’t good enough to do that. Expect a Mourinho-masterclass just like last season, he is actually pretty good to get something out of nothing when nobody expects him to. Would I bet on us to win though? Hell fricking no.

Yeah... a manager that has never won a single trophy probably doesn’t deserve to be Fergie-quoted like that.

Only one that springs to mind is 3-1 v Chelsea last season (if you'd call 3-1 a humiliation).

Sounds about right. When SAF retired every team we've come up against since has not been afraid to press us and rightly so, we are a calamity waiting to happen.

It will keep off the inevitable collapse for later on in the season.

In our two matches so far this season, I think the referees have been awful. Need a much stronger referee on Monday

We'll probably win this despite the shambles today, I can see a switch to 3-5-2 with Fellaini and Smalling coming in, obviously is Sanchez is fit he'll be up top with Lukaku rather than Lingard.

Pretty confident we will win this one actually. Mourinho will want a response after today's abysmal showing. And we are pretty solid at home. If we lose this one, I think there's a pretty good chance Jose will be gone after the internationals.

Spurs shit themselves at Old Trafford, if we manage to not beat ourselves we'll win this comfortably.
