Excellent, sideshow bob is playing. He can't stay in position for even a few seconds, hopefully bayern will exploit that.

Aye, it's an initial "wtf" but it actually makes sense.

Not sure what to think of Bertrand playing to be honest. I can see why Di Matteo's doing it. Malouda himself is an average winger, so it may be good to sacrifice him for someone who will track back.

I just don't know though. It could be a recipe for disaster if I'm being honest, despite the sense that it makes tactically.

Cahill and Luiz haven't played for ages, that could be a major factor.

Oh and why is Tymoshchuk at centre back when van Buytens available. Surely he'd have been a better option against Drogba seeing as how he's an actual beast.

The last game was in Napoli and they battered Chelsea, Luiz was great that night.

Van Buyten hasn't played since the end of January, he's just returned from injury.

Chelsea to get battered. Just had a tenner on 3 - 0 to Munich @ 12-1.

But hes in the squad so must be fit. And again surely its better than a centre mid at centre half.
If Vidic was returning and we had a Champs Lge final I know I wouldnt choose Carrick ahead of him regardless of a 4 month injury.

Last time I heard Van Buyten mentioned, he scored 2 goals away to Milan in 2007.

Christ...Martin Tyler looks fecking ropey. I hope G. Neville gets to repeat his goalgasm today. The Fox lads love playing it in their highlights. It's a bit weird having Brad friedel in the booth as he's blatantly supporting Bayern.

Can someone clear something up. If Chelsea win, Arsenal go into the playoffs yes? cos someone on Facebook is telling me that's not true, that Anderlecht will go into the playoffs, Arsenal will be in the group stage regardless.

What's the 'Hala Madrid' / 'Forza Inter' equivalent for Bayern? :smirk:

Thing is, Vidic is world class while Van Buyten is a mediocre defender. Heynckes probably put him on the bench as an emergency option only. There's not much point in putting a player who's probably way short of match fitness straight into the starting line-up.

That said, this is Chelsea's best hope. Tyimoschuk is OK at centre midfield; he's an absolutely shite CB.

I understand that we're in the comp without qualifying - I thought that both Spurs/Chelsea would have to qualify (I think Liverpool had to in 2006?).

If Chelsea win, all four English clubs will start in the group stages.

Liverpool had to qualify in 2005 because of their "special dispensation"; they also lost their "country protection" as part of the deal; that's why they got into the same group as Chelsea.

Since then, the rules have been cleared up: holders start in the group stage, no matter where they finished in their domestic league.

Yup. If Chelsea win; Chelsea, Arsenal, United and City go straight into the Group Phase. Anderlecht have to qualify instead apparently.

If Chelsea lose, United, Arsenal and City go straight into the groups. Tottenham go into the play-offs.

I'd normally be against Chelsea winning for a multitude of reasons, and I genuinely like watching this exciting Bayern side. However, having watched a documentary on Drogba earlier today it highlights what a brilliant guy he is, despite the way he behaves on the field, and I have to admit I wouldn't mind if he won tonight.

Don't get fooled, clever media people could make a documentary which makes Suárez look like a decent human being.

Drogba as opposed to many footballers is actually a great guy off the field. The stuff he's done for Ivory before during and after the political instability is highly respectable
