How has this half not had a goal as of yet?! Both Curacao and Mexico have had many opportunities to score a goal!

Finally, we have a goal in the 2nd half! In the 91st minute, 19-year-old Edson Alvarez scored his first ever goal for Mexico. The composure he showed is quite impressive. He knew that he had lots of space and time. He took control of the ball, and coolly slotted it past Room's left side.

Here are the finalised quarter final fixtures to be played:
    • Tuesday, 18 July
      • Costa Rica vs. Panama
      • U.S. vs. El Salvador
    • Wednesday, 19 July
      • Mexico vs. Honduras
      • Canada vs. Jamaica
I was hoping for El Salvador to beat Jamaica so that we can face them. The matchup is no in our favour at all. We struggle against pacy, strong teams, and Jamaica has those in abundance. However, we've been tactically adept and dangerous on the counter, so here's hoping that we can become more clinical now that we have Cyle Larin in our team.

Yea, would have liked to have seen him used but if he isn't going to be then may as well get back with TFC for the game this week.

I know nothing about Jamaica, you think we got a chance? Our defence is really shaky and I don't think we have done a good job of handling runs in behind so if their finishing is better than Costa Rica's then we may be in trouble. Their squad doesn't look that good either going off the clubs they play for but Mattocks is I think the only name I recognize.

From what I have seen of them in the Gold Cup, they want to play at a very fast pace. They always try to quickly transition from defence into attack, and if we stop that, then that's 75% of the job done. The other 25% is in dealing with their long balls forward and their sudden rise in tempo.

We are a well-organised side, so 25% of the job is done. My concern, however, lies in our ability to deal with counters. So far, we have been inconsistent in that regard; sometimes, we stop them and maintain the pressure, and the other times, we rely on Borjan, Jakovic, or Adekugbe to bail us out. Honestly, our match against Jamaica can go either way, but they have been poor at finishing chances, so we still have a good chance.

I like it. Jamaica is very beatable and a proper striker with some power and a nice pedigree will only help.

Been a bit of a dull half so far, but i would say that that was understandable due to the heat and humidity.

Sorry to leave you alone @Rolandofgilead. I can't make it to the first match because TFC are playing tonight against NYCFC. I should, however, make it to the second match tonight.

If you can, please keep me updated on the match.

Gonzalez really should have put Costa Rica ahead but somehow he missed the target with a free header from 6 yards.

Long distance effort from Panama, not too far wide. Game seems to have opened up a bit at the start of the second half.

Almost end to end stuff now, Panama got in behind but the ball was gifted to the keeper, then ruiz stings the palms of the keeper. game on now.

Another long range effort for Panama, they seem determined not to go to extra time. still 0-0 at the hour mark

Lovely move by Panama freeing the full back down the right, but he couldn't get the ball across and Costa Rica survive. Panama looking the more likely.

Wait i have just realised that there is no extra time tonight, if it is level after 90 mins then straight to penalties.

Both teams looking sloppy in possession now and the game has slowed again, lots of injury time outs. The heat is really starting to get the better of both sides.

    Still 0-0 '70 gone.

Camargo for Panama stretchered off. He picked up what looked like a hip pop a few minutes ago but seemed ok, then it seized up on him.

    Another player down now.

Panama come close. Costa Rica give the ball away needlessly in midfield, Panama work it to the edge of the box where they get a shot on target very well saved by the keeper, the rebound does fall to a panama player who send it inside but the resulting shot is straight at the keeper.

    GOOOOAAALLLLLL 1-0 Costa Rica.

From the resulting free kick the ball is sent in from mid way inside the Panama half and a shocker of an own goal. the ball is spinning, defender heads it cleanly and it flies into the top corner. 1-0 and Panama unlucky to be behind.

Costa Rica are comfortably dealing with the aerial game that Panama are trying to play. Struggling to see where an equaliser will come from.

Should be 2-0. Another long free kick, headed back across goal but the keeper saves well, the ball bounces to the edge of the box but the shot tipped over easily.

Great cross from Panama from the right hand side, keeper did an excellent job of punching away but gets a clattering in the process, getting treatment. still 1-0.

I am expecting a decent amount of time added on here.

Ball bounces around the Costa Rican box, eventually falls to Godoy at the edge of the box but he snatches at it and it drips wide.

holy shit 2 minutes into added on time, Panama have a free kick just inside the opposition half, keeper nudges it to the full back who then shanks the cross to absolutely noone, poor.

Well defended corner and the full time whistle goes.

    Full time.

    Costa Rica 1- 0 Panama.

How did Panama not win that? I mean, they, along with most teams, have been poor at finishing their chances, but I'm still surprised that Costa Rica somehow won without scoring a goal.

On the bright side, at least we get Armando Cooper back for the weekend fixture against Colorado. We need him more than ever now that Giovinco's injured.

@Rolandofgilead Thank you so much for providing the commentary. I really appreciate your help. :)

The same thing happened to Giovinco. He twisted his body to hit a volley, and Collins (the central defender) collided with him on the hip. He was down immediately and wincing in severe pain.

Hmmm, I was going in to this game with an El Salvador upset in mind, but then the USA seem to have brought their big guns out. Not so confident now.
