Gomes should absolutely be in there without question. I never trust any opinion piece in a newspaper though, there's always an angle or a bias because there's always an agenda.

Worth noting the general trend that the players on that list who have come good are, for the most part, the ones already at big teams.

These lists are generally compiled by hipsters who like to show off that they're aware of the star youngsters for obscure Turkish and Norwegian sides rather than name checking all the usual youth stars at big European clubs. But the latter is really where your money should be, statistically speaking.

I think it's these sort of media-hype lists that actually cause a lot of players to fail. I mean, that Halilovic kid was supposed to be the next big thing and now he's at some second tier Spanish side or something similar.

Not all players are going to have the same attitude as Ronaldo, who can take all the hype and thrive. Some of these 16 year olds probably have a lot of potential that is blown away by all the news and hype.

Ah well, guess this is the 21st century.

This list is just something informal, pointing the obvious talent. In terms of footballing career there are plenty of players who stay under the radar and suddenly they boom. Just to give some examples:

Ricardo Carvalho was always on loan and he wasn't even on the bench when he started to make part of Porto's squad. And most of the fans would not complain about that.
    • Solskjaer only got his first professional contract at 22, just like Rune Brathseth
    • Drogba made appaling seasons until he was 25 years old.
    • Di Natale first game at Serie A was at 25 y.o.
    • Ian Wright first game at Premier Division was at 26.
    • Luca Toni was a "banal" player until he was 26.
    and so on.

They did a list for Premier League clubs then a list for rest of the world. So nothing to get angry about here.

Tbh, matters little that none are ours at this stage, even if all 60 became the best 60 in the future. Chances are, if that were the case, more than one of them will be United players at some point anyway. Martial and Anderson have won the Golden Ball in recent times, however, none of them were with us at 16.

 This. Seems like he's on the list because the coach of the mighty Espanol reserves praised him.

In fairness, most of us didn't have a clue he even existed, as opposed to Dembele and other obvious talents. Not that I have ever heard of most.

That is a dream team right there. You never know though, some might play better than the current English side.

And not one of them made it. The biggest surprise being Micah Richards, he had everything required to make it at the very highest level of football yet somehow managed to mess it up. Wasted talent.

Is there a list froM 5 years ago that we could check against now? That'd make it interesting.

Tells you a lot about how poor the youth development system in my country is. He practically went straight from academy level to national U-18 team. Not to say that he isn't good, he actually looks brilliant in the last regional U-18 tournament.

He's a brainless footballer who constantly made poor decisions, I'm surprised you're surprised.
