I'm sure that this will be met with the predictable "what this really deserving of its own thread?" replies, but I put together a huge IKEA bookshelf last night and still managed to watch Game of Thrones, so I'll post what I damn well please.... Anyway, there is standard response that pops up all the time when certain potential transfers are discussed. It goes something like this: "Just the fact that [insert name here] is being discussed, shows how far standards have fallen at the club." It's such an annoying reply because I seriously doubt anyone here has dropped their standards to such a level that they are content with being a perennial sixth-place team. Instead, people are likely considering alternate ways in which the team might improve (not that anyone of us have any influence on the actual outcome.) I have no doubt that the same replies popped up when Sadio Mane was discussed years back and would have for the likes of Firmino, Winaldjum, Stones, Dembele (Tottenham version), Moura (post-PSG) and Son. Personally, I'd have any of those players now. I have no idea if the likes of Maddison, Grealish, McGuire or others are good enough, but smug, all-knowing replies like the one above are incredibly irritating.
