As you can see, more than half of that team is english, which tells alot about the english media and english players. I hope this helps.

He's way overrated. Being overrated does not mean that you're shit. It just means that you're hyped up so much more than you should be. The brits just think he's greater than god, and they think he's the best player in the world already (They probably haven't seen ronaldinho, kaka, or even messi whom i rate higher than rooney). Its not rooney's fault that he's so hyped, but that still doesn't take away the fact that he's so overrated.

ok, i don`t read the english press, so i can`t tell what they say about him
obviously the manchester united fans put`s him in the gods altar but, i think, mostly because he belongs to the team
i don`t think he`s maradona, but i think he`s one of the best players in the world along with ronaldinho, messi, ronaldo and kaka

Anyone outside of britain would say he's no maradona, but the brits would say he's better than both pele and maradona combined. That's how overrated he is. You only have to look at the "Bobby charlton comes out tops in poll" Thread(or something like that) in the united forum to see how overrated rooney is (coming in at 11th place ahead of players like beckham, ole, sheringham etc who have achieved so much more than him).

You won't find a man on this planet, with any knowledge whatsoever of football, who will say that Rooney is better than Pele and Maradonna were. To be fair there are a stubborn few United fans who refuse to acknowledge David Beckhams' contributions to Man Utd, probably for loathing of his superstar status. Unjustifiable in my opinion. Ole and Teddy are and were for the most part bitpart players coming on as substitutes etc. So fans might so the passion Rooney displays for United is up there with the greats, even though he is playing poorly just now.

So why aren't players like smith, heinze or vidic up there then? They display as much passion as rooney does.

    ---------------cech

    ---puyol----terry----cannavaro---r.carlos

    ---------makelele---xabi alonso

    ------lampard-------ronaldinho

    ----------messi----adriano

cech is not really tested. cannavaro hasn't made madrid's defense any better so far. carlos is good going forward, but can't defend. makelele should not have been selected in the world 11 last year. his game is sooo 1dimensional. he's a good defender, but that's it. limited midfielder. xabi sucks, scores a few long distance goals, and thats it. lampard, i dont need to explain. ronaldinho- has done NOTHING for brazil. great at barca, but if people are going to slate henry for not performing for france, then you have to criticize ronaldinho for not doing anything for brazil. kaka is better. messi, i guess it's too early to say he's overrated, but i just don't think he imposes himself as much as rooney and ronaldo does. adriano is too inconsistent.

i dont think many people rate robinson anyway, so i dont think he's overrated. no one rates p farreira either. woodgate is a good defender imo. beckham is a good player, i dont think anyone, even our own manchester united fans, say he's one of the best. he's a good winger with a decent workrate, and can contribute a lot with freekicks and good precise passing. i dont think downing is rated. tevez, as much as he is a flop now, has accomlished more than rooney has, both at the club and country level. it may be a weaker league, but it's still strong in argentina and brazil, and he has won trophies at both and has been the best player in both countries.

Rooney isnt overrated but overhyped. Even Ronaldinho and Messi are overhyped to a large extent. All talented players are no exceptions when it comes to hype.

Cannavaro overrated? :houllier: Ronaldinho hasnt done anything for Brazil? :houllier: Comparing his international performances with Henry is completely farce. In your list only Fat Frank Lampard fits the tag of being overrated. Also Carlos isnt overrated, he is plainly shite.

cannavaro is overrated. great defender, but winning the balon d'or? terry is better than cannavaro. ronaldinho has not done much for brazil. did you watch the WC? robinho, kaka, ze roberto all were brilliant and dinho was not. the only time ronaldinho plays well for brazil are against crap countries, or for mickey mouse tournaments. henry get a lot of unfair criticism for int'l football. he is good, and scores goals.

Ronaldinho hasnt done much for Brazil after the 02 WC. He was one of the best players for them when they won WC, Copa America and other tournaments prior to that. After 2003, Kaka and slowly Adriano have overshadowed him in the internationals but Ronnie wasnt shite either whilst Henry was a journey man for France when they won some thing big.

No way Terry can be rated higher than Cannavaro. At his best Cannavaro was better than Nesta.

he scored one clever free kick. far from being "one of the best players". ronaldo and rivaldo were the big boys of the 02 WC. people are already forgiving ronaldinho for the horrible outing of brazil in the 06 WC this past summer, but i won't forget. he may be doing great for barca now, but until he leads brazil and plays well in a big match or tournament, then i will continue to say he is overrated. he can't be up there with the other brazilian greats like pele, romario, ronaldo, rivaldo, and today kaka, because they all have been excellent for both club and country.

    Terry isn't that over-rated.

Ferraira isn't over-rated.. under-rated if you ask me.

Robinson is shit and no one really rates him.

What a spastic thread, no one has ever called Rooney better than Maradona and Pele combined.

Now someone start a thread entitled 'a thread made up of the cafs most over exaggerating posters' and stick Freak at the top. Or just call it 'clueless muppets' for short, either way he would still retain his top spot.

Roberto Carlos is the fiest attacking left back i have ever seen in 40 years of watching football.

Don't be silly, he's getting on that's all.

Carlos has been absolutely fab for a decade.

By the way, according to himself, he doesn't play left back, but on the left :D

98 WC, Copa America win etc the following year etc.. What exactly he did when they won those tourneys?. He was also the biggest culprit whenever they strugged in their qualifiers and in 2002 WC he got his pyrotechniques right as the opposition were weak.

Figo and Rivaldo used to take piss out of him regularly in their Barca days. One on one with a decent right winger he is rendered ineffective and his reputation increased at Madrid only after Zidane and Figo played along with him on the left. Lizarazu, Maldini and Irwin were better left backs than Carlos.

You are too harsh on the Brits mate.:nono:

But it your opinion I respect that. Below is mine:

Manager: Arsene Wenger (Best finder of young talent my foot)

    Peter Cech (Rarely Tested)

Emanuel Eboue (The praise he gets in the African and British press will make you think he is the greatest defender ever)

John Terry (Good player but the British press claim he is better than Rio)

Jamie Carragher (People like Alan Green dare to say this talent less gimp is better than Rio:lol:)

Roberto Carlos (Stopped being able to defend back in 2000)

Aaron Lennon: (He has talent yes but he is so untested)

Claude Makelele (The world's best 3rd center back usually mistakenly called a defensive midfielder)

Frank Lampard (Good player but Rated higher than his ability bracket)

Arjen Robben (Selfish with very little natural talent. A slightly advanced verion of Michael Owen playing on a wing, where Owen would be clearly out of place says it all really))

Theirry Henry (Best player in the world!: )

David Trezyget (How can world class be used in the same sentence as this useless player?)

    thus suggests the chief:cool:

He can run up and down the pitch, has a good shot in his left and he usually gets positionally skinned even against a decent right winger.

About his final deliveries, just try watching some of his old footages.

Carlos goal scoring rate is very high for a defender only bettered by Koeman. He is basically a left sided attacking player with a good shot, defensively shite also with inconsistant final deliveries. Being a Brazilian playing for Real Madrid has increased the hype around him.

Mascherano and Tevez are fantastic players trying to adapt to a different style of football without actually playing.

Bit harsh to label them 'World's most overrated players'

Woodgate has been through horiffic injury spells, if he is so overrated by English, why is he playing for Boro?

Terry is overrated but a quality player. As is Fwank

Rooney is as overrated as Messi, both will be world beaters, but the press expects kids to perform week in week out.

Carlos and Becks were fine players in their day.

I don't think any person who knows what a football looks like rates Downing.

No one really rates Robinson either.

Haven't watched any of Farreira this season, can't really remember him too much last season. Didn't know he is so highly rated though?

    WTF is Freak on about?

Saying Messi is not overrated and Rooney is. My gosh he's deluded!
Im not saying Rooney is the worlds best, but he's up there. Then to say Terry is overrated is not fair considering he's been excellent in Defence for Chelsea past 3 seasons. You could argue that they play shite boring football that helps him, but then again you have players like Nesta playing shite week in week out..

You've Mascherano down as being overrated on the back of what, 3 month spell as West Ham? Not to mention Terry, and Rooney.

9 of your first 11 play in the Premiership, and the other 2 play for Real Madrid. Goes to show how little "world" football you actually watch.

G'way outta that and don't be talking shite son. You're making a fool of yourself.

I agree. Was is the word. Up till 2000-2001 he was by far the best clearly, with only Maldini a close second. Since then he has been hype strictly.
