Fletcher was generally our most attacking midfielder tonight. Scholes and Carrick had the defensive duties.

It's good to see the old Carrick back.

Yet he didn't really do anything going forward bar a few nice short passes. For an attacking midfielder that isn't good enough. I rate Fletcher and have defended him in the past ten fold, but he's not played well this season so far. Which is a shame because he carried us for parts last year.

Either way, Carricks confidence is returning and he's pinging the ball about nicely and shielding our defense very well. Important player when he's on form is Carrick.

He was good tonight. Involved in the engine room and looked very comfortable alongside Fletcher and Scholes. Quickly getting back to his best which is fantastic news for us. If he can get into a run of consistant excellance, then I would be very confident of our prospects going into the new year.

Get Rooney fit and firing alongside a stable back 5 and a happy Michale Carrick and we have alot too look forwward to next year.

He was that. He was basically playing the same role as Yaya Toure was doing for city. Trying breaking forward from deep. Rather than being the main attacking midfield outlet of the side.

The best part about Carrick's performance last night is he quite being a wussy and got physical.

He is getting better with each passing game. Needs to rediscover his shooting boots though

I like Carrick and hope he can keep up this form. What's all this best holding player in Europe business? Not long ago he couldn't get into our side.

I lost count the amount of times he intercepted the ball last night.

I liked his determination in trying to get stuck in...

His interceptions were always in his game though... He does look a lot more comfortable in a 3 man MF.

For me, Carricks form getting better is due to Scholes form. Why ? Scholes makes the opposition man mark him more and tries to press him more freeing space up for Carrick to play, if Carrick is allowed more time on the ball he will show performances like this.

Watching Michael Carrick on form is a thing of beauty. I have always stood by him, even when he was going through his worst form.

An on form and fully fit Carrick is essential to any hopes we have in the knockout stages of the CL. He was class last night, ran the show and made it look effortless at times.

Great performance, his interceptions are immense. Also glad to see he performed that well infront of Capello and thoroughly out played Barry, that should help him get a First team spot in England's Next Match. Not that I'm bothered about England, but it would be good for his confidence.

As did Scholes, the Sun's ratings are a joke.

It reminds me of a story someone told me a few years back....

A few well known journos were in the press box for an Ireland rugby international and they hit the free booze. Apparently they spent most of the game turned away and chatting amongst themselves. I think John Hayes got MOTM (pretty much unanimously) and in a couple of their reports the next morning (which were apparently very similar) they said something along the lines of 'John Hayes: Worked hard but lacked any real quality and was lucky not to have been hooked. A day to forget. 4/10.'

The truth of it is that they have agendas and blind spots like the rest of us. Except they talk down to us like the don't.

That really doesn't surprise me Brophs, I can well imagine that a fair few of the ratings we see in the press come from someone who hasn't properly watched the game, if in fact they watched it at all. And the sun have used their ratings as a way of generally slagging off a team in the past. I remember a few seasons ago, or it may have been last season, they gave everyone in the liverpool team a rating of 1, except for Torres who they gave 7. I assume the bloke who wrote it had Torres in his fantasy team, as a rating of 7 or higher gets bonus points in the suns league. Pathetic really.

 Yeah, I've heard that. Wasn't there a bloke who got into trouble for constantly rating someone like Marlon Harewood highly because he had him as his cheap striker in his FF team?

He was absolutely brilliant tonight, oozing class all over the midfield. He effectively displayed his passing range with some great short passing as well as some long balls - especially that 45-yard ball to Giggs. His chip to pick Fabio out was good as well, and he was unlucky not to score.

Glad to see that he has gotten over his rough patch from last season.

Tracked back really well on a number of occasions when rangers threatened to break.

I still want more from him though in an attacking sense simply because he's got it in him to have a greater effect on games.

One of his best for United. Very very good, missed chance and blazed shot aside.
