Yeah, he looked sharp when receiving/winning the ball back and seemed to smell blood a little. Just couldn't quite get that last 5% right.

The team needs to give him more of the ball if Pogba isn't on the pitch. He's very capable of producing a moment of quality when he gets it right, that cross to McTominay was a peach

Are you new here? I've been here donkey's years, and that's the 1st time that's ever been levelled at me.

If you compare everyone to Lukaku, then I'd stand a chance of getting a 'well done'.
Is our highest paid player seriously getting praised for being less wank than usual, despite still missing a 1 on 1 and bluffing his key passes?

Go check out the Lingard thread to see the standards he is held to, and he's not even an elite player on huge wages.

Really???? He created it? Ffs it was such huge defensive mistake and he got a gift which he couldn't convert. Besides there is a difference between being and scoring, and what matters in the end is that he has missed a sitter

He was feisty when he came on and should have scored, decent cameo.

Looked sharper than he has for a while. Could very easily have had an assist for Lukaku and should have scored. Obviously low on confidence and went for power over placement.

He put himself up and about. Definitely a better bench option than Lukaku. You can still se the quality, but he's lost some exposiveness and is massively low on confidence. Lingard has clicked well in attack so far witb Ole, but I still want to see Alexis given a chance in a front line with Tony and Rashford.

Will be a nice option to have in the coming weeks. What happens beyond that in the summer remains to be seen but It's good we have him as an option, either to start when Martial needs a rest or maybe even up front when Rashers is out. A big month ahead and he will play his part.

If only he'd scored. He needs some sort of moment to ignite things. I hoped it had happened when scoring that 90th min winner v Newcastle was it? But then he's derailed straight away with a niggle.

I didn’t manage to watch the game today but the comments above seem mixed to say the least. If he can’t convince against Fulham when we are 3-0 up, then I wonder when exactly we can expect him to spring into life?

It's tough when a player is low on confidence. At least he tries hard and I feel he should get a few hamga under his belt. He has the quality to deliver but a confident Sanchez would have lobbed the keeper. He certainly is a much better player than Lukaku

Agree he should've scored. I was going to say he was excellent, but I decided that was too much, especially given that one missed chance, but merely good didn't sound right either, so I settled on very good.

They've gotta get shut in the summer as it makes zero sense having a sub as the highest paid player at the club.

Felt sorry for him today, he itching at the bit to get on and when he did Pogba basically stopped playing before being subbed.

But if they're mixed, as you say, you've chosen to believe the negative ones. You could always choose the opposite. ;)

    He showed some spark today.

Mathematically , Lukaku and Fred is even more expensive benchwarmer. They both cost 75 and 50. At least we got Sanchez by swapping him with our benchwarmer.

I would agree with you, but then he goes and wastes that absolute gimme of a chance on goal. He's really not helping himself.

I'd rather ole rotate rashford for sanchez whenever rashford needs a rest, I feel we'd still be just as fluid with sanchez as the 9, it's hard to see a place for Rom, whom doesn't look the same player since Jose sacking.

He created that "gimme" of a chance and was first-time.

In general, I don't understand the criticism he is getting. It was arguably his highest level since his return from the latest injury break. He looked lively and was pressing hard and his passing was reasonably spot-on. That's a good enough level for rotation minutes as we will be forced to rest Rashford and Martial in the coming weeks.

Actually, the criticism of Sanchez is not justified today.

His chance he created himself via an interception, which is a good thing. Of course should have scored, but Rashford also missed a sitter against Burnley...

At least Alexis tried to contribute, to press, and made some good passes. Very far away from being at the level we expect, but better than previously, and if this trajectory continues, we may have a very good squad option in attack. Wouldn’t be surprised if he comes off the bench against PSG on Tuesday

Well, going off Ian Wright’s comments on MOTD last night, it’s a tough call between who should be starting between Sanchez and Martial for the game against PSG on Tuesday :houllier:.

He's looking sharper, which is good but he's done at being a winger. Sanchez needs to play as a false 9 or something.

    English pundits are the worst.

If it was an English player who scored Martial's goal then they'd be creaming themselves and talking about how he's the best thing since sliced bread, but Martial? Dude still has to compete for his spot, pathetic.

This guy is useless as a wide player; yet looks very serviceable going through the middle. He's a better striker than Lukaku at this moment.

Wrighty’s comments were hilarious. How does a pundit not understand that Martial is one of the first names on our team sheet? I think Sanchez has shown signs of finding a bit of form himself but he’s the clear reserve in the LW position.

I'd use him that way as well while lukaku plays back up to Lingard as all his good work recently has come from the right side.

Our squad is an odd thing, on paper it seems we have loads of players that can play the wings (especially the left) but in reality only one seems to play at a competent level there.

We really need a right winger this summer who can fill in LW when needed this summer.

That's quite strange since Martial is not anything of the sort. Martial was a sub against both Leicester and Arsenal away from home, hardly games where you'd rotate your key outfield players. Ole has said that he plans line-ups a few weeks in advance, so that is conclusive evidence that he's not an automatic starter.

Matic and Pogba are the first ones on the team sheet, as they have no replacements. That is one key feature of Ole, no player has a right to start every game, every player gets a chance to play. It stops complacency from setting in and pushes players to become better. It's quite refreshing after two managers made certain players undroppable to the detriment of the team.

It is interesting the debate re Sanchez. In games against Newcastle (away), Arsenal (away), both hard fought, tough victories against teams who were / are in a much better shape than the current Fulham team, Alexis played very, very, well, and was extremely influential. He came off the bench to win a terrific header (which is a rare for our forwards by the way...) which led to our equaliser scored by Lindeholf against Burnley. These are important moments, important matches.

It is clear he is still a little short, whether that is all fitness and he needs more games (I think he needs a run of matches to see the best of him.. whether he will receive that now I don't know...), or whether he isn't interested (which I do not think is the case actually, and Ole seems to suggest that he is really putting it in on the training ground, which is superb...)

Alexis Sanchez playing well, brings a lot to this team. Quality, and experience that we could benefit from. I understand that this forum is a reactionary platform for many, that's fine. But we need to see football more than just a 'missed chance' or ' poor tackle'.. etc. He came on yesterday, and looked quite sharp to me. I am looking forward to seeing his game improve, because we will look an even better all round team.

People have short memories. Rashford, Martial, Lindgard.. all have had very indifferent periods in this campaign, and we are still learning as a team. We are not the finished article yet.

He's been here for over a year and it feels like he's maybe had half an hour of decent performances in that time. Frankly he's our worst signing in recent years in terms of performance, and the only thing saving him from not being our very worst signing full stop is that Di Maria is a rotten scum bag of a person, and Sanchez is at least likeable.

Still convinced he's finished as a top player. However, I wish we'd stop persisting with him as a winger when his pace has clearly gone. He'd be a better option through the middle replacing Rashford for say, 20mins per game, than Lukaku is at present.

You guys all forgive Michael Owen because of THAT goal against City in dying minutes. May be Sanchez deserves the same treatment for THAT performance against City at the Etihad and stopped them from lifting the trophy in front of us? We both finish 2nd in those two seasons too. :D

For Arsenal, OGS rotated the team and against Leicester, he was recovering from a knock.

Ole said what he said but also said subjected to form, injuries and suspensions. So best believe, Martial is ahead of Sanchez currently.

I do agree with you though that Ole doesn't seem to favor anyone, which indeed is refreshing.

I really can't remember a more disappointing signing than him, considering the hype we made about him when we did the deal. We were over the moon and drooling over him, entering every day to follow his transfer thread and we get this. Definitely the most disappointing signing for me all things considered.

Martial is absolutely ahead of Sanchez, but he is nowhere near being the first name on the team sheet. The rotation Ole did against Arsenal had a midfield of Matic, Herrera and Pogba. Lukaku and Sanchez played because he had a specific idea about the game and felt they were the best to execute it, which is what you want from your manager. The Lukaku selection worked fantastically and I very much doubt the reason to play him was to give Rashford a rest.

I dont think Sánchez is finished at all. He looked very sharp at the weekend and was unlucky not to score. I'm certain that if he carries on with the same attitude, he'll show his class eventually.

That being said, I think Sánchez is having the same problem that Martial has had to deal with. They both are attacking from too far wide. They are strikers.

I believe Sánchez (and Martial) would benefit much more from playing closer to goal.

When they start from the wide left position, they have to beat a double-team just to get into a dangerous position. It's not effective at all. Even Martial struggles with this and he's the much younger athlete. If Martial wasn't so clinical, I believe people would be questioning him too.

Great post. We have to be fair in the assessment: following the news of leaving Arsenal he went into a real rut. Between that and then the dire football with us really weren't the ideal scenes to come back into great form as a 30+ year old. It may take some time yet but theres quality and contribution let in him

While i agree that player's wage is one factor to judge player and by that Sanchez is not giving what he must give on the pitch, i can't accept the fact that he is attacked for things what other players also do. Rashford and Martial also lose ball more than often, Lingard is having more bad games than good, but it is all about Sanchez in match thread. "He lost a ball, he is finished. He missed a chance, he is finished. He was slow in that attack, he is finished".
He is still class player and we must be happy having him in the club. If i am wrong( like i was about Mourinho:wenger::wenger::lol:) i will admit it. But not before June.
