I really am sceptical about this proposed Gomez involvement & playing it out from where Allisson gets given the ball.

I'd like to see them try it, say 20 times & see what happens. It's about as unfavourable as you can have isn't it?

In fact, if you freeze this at 20secs & full screen it, it seems like they've also managed to get themselves outnumbered.

It's a mistake from Allison, simple as. He has ages to get it away, and even if he'd managed to turn Iheanacho then he isn't in the best of situations. Important thing is that he learns from it. He played a perfect pass inbetween two Leicester attackers a couple of minutes later, which was good to see.

Henderson plays two suicide passes. Especially the one to Gomez, which he somehow manages to return to Henderson despite being pressed by three players.

It's also good from a defensive point of view that we only allowed Leicester one shot at goal following that mistake, and that shot was blocked at the source.

He can't do that against Spurs though. Kane would be all over it.

    Good porn name at least.

He kind of looks like one too, a male one I mean - like one of the douchebags from Bangbros.

Sign of the times that you enter a goalkeeper thread and most of the discussion is centered at how good he is with his feet.
Mind, I recognize the importance of a goalkeeping knowing how to play ball, but I still think that the actual goalkeeping is the bread and butter of goalkeepers (I can't believe I'm actually writing that). Call me old-fashioned if you want, but our own DDG is average at best with his feet and I'd choose him over Alisson everyday.

Well the same thing happened with CBs so with GKs it might be going the same way.

A lot of the modern tactics is based on luring the defender to press the goalkeeper. It would be silly for him to just punt it at any danger. But oh well, I don't expect the average fan to know this, there already will be a consensus for him to just hoof it.

I don't understand this post. Are you saying teams try to press a keeper so he'll misplace a pass and cause a dangerous situation? and you don't want the keeper to hoof it at this point? What is your point?

I think he is saying teams want the opposition to press their keeper so there are gaps elsewhere.

Maybe, I have no idea. I would like to know what the average fan is missing:) But if teams press high with a lot of numbers then a hoof can not only relieve pressure but also lead to a counterattack. There should be a lot of space further up the pitch if opposition press high

This, its all him. Klopp likes to play high press with the fullbacks bombing forward. Why should TAA be there in the first place ? It was a poor pass back from VVD and a terrible touch from Allison to control the ball . The problem is I can see him do more of these and he will make mistakes on crosses as he likes to come well out of his goal . Klopp needs to stop him doing this as many teams in the PL will press and he will get found wanting again this season . Trying to blame the other guys is just silly, like the saying goes :when in doubt , boot it out.

To be fair honest, this video shifts some of what I was saying about Gomez on to TAA, who really should be coming back and giving him an option too. Again though, something that will come with experience for both.

Obviously most of the blame is down to Alisson, regardless of whether VVD's backpass isn't greatly positioned or weighted, whether Gomez should split wide, whether TAA should retreat, Alisson is the one who was indecisive or at least poorly executed what he was trying to do (whatever that may have been) and the one who lost the ball in an awfully dangerous position, but I would suspect he's been clearly instructed to play long-balls as little as possible by the manager and if that's the case, he needs more passing options there.

"Oblak and Ter Stegen are the best right now, and it is healthy competition to see who of us will be the best each year.”

 You're not even capable of lacing De Gea's boots you deluded scouse clown.

Oblak and Ter Stegan certainly deserves shouts of being the best but if he thinks he's up there over De Gea then yeah he's a deluded scouse clown

Pretty much. DDG's consistency over the past few years has been unreal... For United, at least :D Buffon rolled back the years in that Napoli game though!

I think he's been a huge step up compered to some of the lamp posts we've had in goal recently. He's not perfect but he fills me with more confidence than his predecessors have.

Weird attempt to save Red Star's second goal though. No idea why some keepers try and save a shot with the wrong hand like that. Maybe he thought that he'd be able to reach higher?

Strange rating. He's up there and he saved us multiple times already, bit he's not the best. Neither is De Gea though. I don't think there's a distinct best keeper atm.

Tremendously overrated GK helped massively by the world class VVD ahead of him. His shot stopping is average at best.

So arrogant so say he is «worlds above» when you have no way of proving it. I would counter by saying in no world would I rate ter Stegen even a bit higher than De Gea and Oblak. He is better when using his feet, but he isn’t as good a shot-stopper as the others (in my humble opinion), which is what goalkeeping is really about.

Obviously hyperbole. Ter Stegen is every bit as good a shot-stopper as De Gea and Oblak, and better then both at everything else. Seriously, watch a bunch of games of Barcelona, united and atletico in 2018, Ter Stegen has been quite clearly the best of the three

My guess is that he meant Stegen, Oblak and himself all fight for 3rd place. After Neurer and De Gea. He bloody better

100% Agree. Ter Stegen is the best goal keeper in the world for me. The amount of times he saves and continues to save that Barcelona team is frightening. The only reason he doesn't get as much exposure is because he plays for Barceolona and De Gea keeps getting pushed as the best by the British Media.

MatS is the best shot blocker. Aerially I don’t know who is the best. But Ederson has won so many points for City with his assists to Sterling and Aguero.

So Ter Stegen has more saves than De Gea this year? I doubt if Barca defense is as bad as us.

Edit: I am not suggesting De Gea is better. I don't watch Ter Stegen so often

Another fan who embraces dinosaur tactics of relying on an old school shot stopping keeper. It is no wonder Mourinho is stuck with his dinosaur tactics as he has to pander to such fans. Can't move on to ball playing sweeper keepers that are key to modern tactics.

I've been very impressed with the speed and anticipation Alisson has off his line. Snuffs out some potentially very dangerous situations early on before it gets to the "he saves!" territory.

He seems to basically have everything you would want a keeper to have. Really complete player.
