Mayweather, Curry, Lebron, Harden and co. must be wishing they were as good at football as him right now :lol::lol:

If there's one player deserved of that sum, It's him.
Take him out and we would literally be 40% or more weaker.

Talking about €100 million per season contract?

Saw that somewhere today, but didn't take it seriously.

Oh yeah there's also the part where Florentino tried to sign Messi in 2013, was ready to pay the buyout clause and was ready to exert pressure on the spanish government to quash Messi's tax problems.

As crazy as it sounds, 400 million for four years of Messi is actually quite cheap when you consider that he would have been a free agent at the end of the season.

His transfer value would probably around 250 million by the summer (he'll be 31) and Neymar is getting 75m+ from PSG per season, so Messi could probably command at least that much in salary.

Combine those together, and you could argue that the true value of having Messi for four years is 500-600 million.

Vickery puts out a list of South American players each season that are destined for European success and Mina was on it last year, considered the best defender in the Brasilian league. He was a big success at all 3 of his clubs and a rising star in the Colombian defense. Depending on whom you ask, many who rate Yerry over Davinson Sanchez. Originally a goalkeeper, there are similarities between the two although I think Mina is much stronger/bigger and actually better on the ball while the latter has the edge in terms of pace & less flashy - Yerry is a colorful character. Mina also, apparently, has a propensity for going in strong for the tackle (No red mist) and due to his size it can often look worse than it actually is - something I suspect he will need to be more disciplined about in Europe.

Laugh all you want, you know who called Florentino the moment he saw that a fellow 5 Ballon d'Or winner was earning 100M, right? :p

Yeah, using a foundation meant for charity to evade taxes. Turning super rich seems to turn most people into complete twats.

Yeah. He has this image of a shy and humble person and had a likeable personality, this just shows that he's a twat like rest of the rich footballers.

I can't wait for the "oh, he didn't knew all this, his accountant handles this stuff"

If that's true then Dembele was a bargain.

I'd imagine the break down is something to do with goals, appearances, league and CL wins.

€5m for every 25 appearances with a maximum of €20m. €5m every time barca qualify for the CL for a maximum of €10m. Rest is if barca win the CL

Coutinho's add-ons are pretty much the same btw, only real difference is only €5m are based on them winning CL

Well €222m if we're talking Euros, and they got a small amount for Tello. Consider also that €80m of that Coutinho & Dembele fees aren't immediately or definitely payable.

Their net spend for previous 5 seasons before this averages out at around €50m which isn't a lot really for a club the size of Barca, so maybe they were due a big window or two.

I don't think anyway is saying they're 'broke', just more that as a business model it doesn't look particularly stable or sustainable. Their wage bill was reckoned to be 84% of their turnover even before they signed Coutinho.

Dembélé out for 3-4 weeks, guess that clutching at the same leg against Celta Vigo was more than what the club let on initially. Same hamstring, different muscle and supposedly unrelated to the initial injury & surgery

I assume his lack of proper pre-season has damaged him badly. I certainly hope so, because the other alternative is that he is injury prone.

£22 million is what Barcelona paid for Mascherano in 2010. Looking back that is an absolute steal.

Not only a steal, he was bought as a DM and converted into a central defender

It's deplorable but I bet this is commonplace in football, especially with the money people earn in the game. Our own manager has also been accused of tax evasion.

I never shy away from how much I dislike this board but has to be said the handling of Mascherano's departure has been a classy affair

It's fairly quick judgement but rumours that Valverde is not impressed with Yerry Mina's level, wanting to loan him straight out and look for another defender as he is concerned about Vermaelen's penchant for injuries

He included Yerry Mina to the squad for today's game, i think Valverde is not the type of guy that writes off players from the get go. he is very patient with under performing players.

EV may have included him simply due to the occasion of the match because he hasn't been all too patient with the squad in general IMHO. I did read a quote from him after Mina had been training with the team and cautioned for the need for adaptation to integrate into the way the team plays which would normally suggest to me he is not ready yet, even if in the squad. The rumours seem to stem from the dubious principals involved with his transfer from Traffic, Cury & Raúl Sanllehí. I hope it's just conjecture but the board has pulled this before with Douglas. The good on the other hand is that Yerry is not really an unknown and even Vickery has been high on him

I remember when Juve knocked Barcelona out and how many people said they were ageing, need a massive revamp, this and that and were in danger. Now they have just added Coutinho on top of a team who were already undefeated

So true...the fortunes of Real and Barca seem to change so quickly...and I'm guessing even when I read about these dramatic changes in fortunes neither club finishes outside the top 2 usually anyway.

Real dominated Barca when they last met. Barca still won 3-0 but I'm interested to see how they do in the CL.

I remember how at the start of season there were massive doubts in Barcelona. They haven't replace Xavi & Iniesta, sold Neymar, hired unproven manager, and signed Paulinho. And look at them now, unstoppable even with Dembele being injured, they are still too good with duo Suarez & Messi.

Whatever they pay on Messi & Suarez, it will be worth every penny. World class players can get the best out of any players even if they are average footballers, even if the team isn't playing well those two always find a way to score winning goals.

Very happy to see Barcelonas turn around.

I said last year in a thread somewhere (after the PSG first leg) that Barcelona would need to sell Neymar to rebuild the midfield.

Even despite the historic comeback it was apparent they were looking disjointed and the PSG victory was merely papering over the cracks.

At that point Rakitic was being benched and it looked like he would leave, and Iniesta was playing less and less football under Enrique.

It was apparent that Barca had made some very questionable buys:
    * Arda Turan (who I was an advocat of) but he never made an influence.
    * Gomes (who still needs to be moved on).
    * The loss of Alves
    * The loss of Pedro
    * The loss of Xavi (he left during the treble winning season)
    * Buying Matthieu (never a barcelona player awful buy).

It's now nice to see the deadweight is being cleared out, Iniesta is having more game time (he will have to pick his games given his age).

Neymar has given the funds for Dembele and Coutinho, last year Umtiti was an astute buy and I've heard good things about Yerry Mina.

It looks like the squad is in good shape now, despite the loss of Mascherano coming soon, there'll be an inevitable decline after Messi retires, but he will drop to the midfield in a few seasons once he loses his pace, he will probably play to 36-7 given his passing and dribbling ability though.

I worry about Dembele having two injuries though, for the money they spent. Hopefully he can have an injury free few seasons now.

The question still is, who will replace Messi as the talismanic players, and who will replace Suarez in 3 years time when he hits 34?

I wonder if Barca will try and sign Neymar again, or if Barcelonas dominance will still be there.

They have been playing with the exact same midfield so far. Dembele has been injured, Coutinho just play his debut as a sub yesterday.

It's still true, the team was carried by Messi playing lights out especially in earlier months when Suarez couldn't score.

Your best player will always carry you at parts of the season. 'tis the role of being the star player. Suarez is on streak of scoring/assisting consistently since Nov and Dembele has hardly played. Now they have signed Phillippe bloody Coutinho, so I don't get the nonchalance, "cause I'm not ****ing laughing Nicholaaaaas"

Not to that degree, no. Pretty sure he had his best scoring stretch since '12 and offensive contribution from other players was nonexistent.

There are aging and were in danger, hence the revamp in the winter transfer window with more to follow in the summer.
