Tevez was benched because he fought with SAF for a bigger fee and SAF did not want to pay anymore than what was the original price. You know that contract talks start usually in the final year and if there is no contract within 6 months of the expiry then the player is allowed to speak to other clubs?

Yes he certainly was good last night on BT. Hope to see more of him on English TV, makes a change to the usual bland crap we get

Just didnt suit our play at the time. A bit like Ibra at Barca. Lazy and slow just wasnt what that team was all about. What infuriated me though was that even though it wasn't working sir Alex seemed hell bent on making it work.

Excellent player, just not a great stylistic fit for those run-n-gun era teams.

Agreed, very unique combination. The closet player I can think of that combines the two attributes is Ozil, although still two very different players

I liked his comment after the host was speaking about Lukaku's "poor form" for not scoring a goal in 6 straight matches. He said something alone the line of "...it is a team game, it is not an individual sport, and Lukaku did contribute to the team". I couldn't agree more.

Plus, what can I say, he is probably the most stylish amongst the so called pundits out there.

I feel that if he had played at his peak in Europe for a top club he would have been more successful individually. He is the only player in the United side who could receive the ball with a defender on him and not lose it most of the time. We could have used him much more by giving the ball to him whenever he wanted it. " Keep calm and pass me the ball".

I think I enjoyed watching Berbatov more than any other player. Just beautiful to watch.

Really? Can barely remember a more frustrating player to watch here. Bar the obvious Di Maria’s and Falcao’s. He was good for us and far from a flop but incredible frustrating to watch.

His duet with Rooney was excellent. I wish I could return to the season 2010/2011 to watch it again.

Berbatov is one of my favourite players to have played for United.

I was desperate for us to sign him when he was at Spurs.

He'd be brilliant in this current squad. Berba's link up play with Rashford and Martial would be a joy to see. Him playing just off of Lukaku would be great, and help get Lukaku involved more.

He will not last the entire 90 mins. But to bring start him and open up teams with his skill is something we are missing now.

Pretty sure he finished joint top scorer in the league in 10/11. Fergie never forgave him for his double miss v Man City in the cup semi though, treated him very shabbily after that tbh.

Dropped him from the CL final squad for Michael Owen, who hadn'the played all year.
Berbatov spoke of it, said he was literally in tears when he heard he hadn'the made the squad. Then he barely played him the following season despite Berbatov doing well when he was given a chance.
Seen an interview he did in Bulgarian where he spoke very badly of Ferguson and I had to say I sympathised with his view.

It was ridiculous to me that he left Berbatov out for Michael Owen. He was top goal scorer in the league that season.

One of my favourite players for United ever.
That hat-trick against the scouse was worth every single penny.

SAF: You absolute monster not even including him in the squad for that CL final!

He dropped Berbatov because at that point he'd shown on several occasions that he was not the man for the big occasion.

The FA Cup semi against City he missed two sitters and then on the final day against Blackpool when he needed one goal to be outright golden boot he was absolutely hopeless and snatched at chance after chance. He'd also gone 3 years without a goal in Europe.

Owen wasn't very good at utd but if there was a huge chance in the final I'd think I'd rather it fall to Owen than Berbatov.

I agree Fergie was wrong to keep him after the Champions League final in 2011 though. It would have been better for both parties to sell that Summer.

Berbatov is the type of players I watch football for. Supporting a team that had a player like him was an honor...ahh the moments of joy

League leading scorer in a PL winning season, surely that deserves a bit more admiration?

Always forget that! Although, didn't over half of those goals come in like 3 games

Loved him though - fantastic player on his day. That assist for Ronaldo v West Ham is still the best Utd assist I've ever seen.

Half came in three games,Hernandez scored more crucial goals .

Bottom line Berbatov couldn't be depended on.

Go back to our Champions League Penalty shoot out v Chelsea would you or anyone take out Tevez and have Berbatov step up instead if you could and he was available ?

I'm not saying that everyone must consider him a United LegendTM, just that I find it surprising that he could be labeled as "a least favorite United player", considering his contribution (and apparent love for the club).

I think Fergie said that he felt that Owen would be more likely to come on and nick a late goal than Berbatov, which to be honest I didn't necessarily disagree with. Berbatov was a better all round player but Owen was a better finisher and probably a more reliable player for those big moments

Had some absolutely outrageous moments in a United shirt including the Ronaldo assist, Liverpool hattrick, and 5 goals v Blackburn but I never understood the signing.

His PL top scorer season is perfect example of how stats can be deceiving in terms of evaluating how good a player has been, since, as a poster above said, he scored half in 3 games. He wasn't particularly impressive overall that season which is why he was benched to for the Champions League final, a decision that wasn't particularly controversial.

Brilliant, talented player but always expected more from him. Was overjoyed when we got him from Spurs.

Thought he was going to be another Cantona for us but never really hit the heights expected. I think he was slightly overawed during his time at Utd and think if he believed in himself more and had a bit of arrogance about him he could have utilised his talent more. He never really cemented a spot in the first eleven and was regularly rotated.

I have been a fan of him since he came to United. I also think that most of the players apart from Scholes are not on his wavelength. This created a lot of problems for Berabtov not getting the ball when he wants it. Players like Fletcher etc does not pass him the ball when he wants it. It does not matter if he has a defender on him, he is not going to lose it. When Berba wants it they should pass it to him. He says he would rather create goals than score them.
