Best shot stopper in the world by some distance imho. It's like a reverse blooper video.

The point-blank Lukaku save was reminiscent of my fave Dave save, where he reached behind himself and scooped the ball out of the air.

That's definitely the case. I have the memory of an elephant. I still have Schmeichals saves etched in my memory vs Liverpool, Newcastle, Arsenal, Barcelona, Munich each one of them Champions league, League winning saves.

Hopefully DDG can help us towards them while he is here as well!

Harsh but I do think Shmikes was a little overrated, I wouldn't take him over DDG put it that way.

    I'm 44.....

Currently best in the world, not by any huge margin.

His parrying of uncatchable shots to as safe a location on the pitch as possible has been steadily improving, did well with this today.

He made a lot of saves you'd expect him to make. One or two really good ones I think. Not takking anything away from him as he's fantastic, but not sure it'sthe best performance he's put in for us.

There was a game against Everton under LVG where he saved a penalty and made two or three unbelievable saves near the end to win us the game.

Wasn't a guy here who said Victor Valdes is better. Or someone else, some other wild claim.

    Best in the world. Definitely.

I think the game against Arsenal and Liverpool under LVG might be better. He made so many insane saves in those. Most saves today was fairly easy for him. The one against Sanchez though after he made the first save was insane and he had a few more top quality ones.

It is great to see him in top form again. He has been great all season!

Both Schmeichel and VDS had matches where they were godlike.
Unfortunately couldn't watch today cause of work, so can't compare, but easy in the excitement after a good match to say it was the best.

I'm sure shay given used to have one of these against us every year for Newcastle.

He is worth at least 150-175M euros if Neymar is worth 220M. He still has 10 years+ ahead. Golden age now.

I firmly believe Real could bid somewhere around 100-125M in the summer.

Number one still has to be Schmeichel against Newcastle in March 1996. Not just for the performance, but what meant in that title race (Newcastle were 4 points ahead at the time) and in the trajectories of both clubs. They were a broken team after that and never reached those heights again.

If memory serves me right, I think he also had a huge performance in a backs-to-the-wall showing away to Inter in the 1998/99 Champions League. Inter had the best of the chances in that tie but couldn't beat the big man.

De Gea was superb today though, his quickness and footwork are unbelievable.

O'Shea against Spurs hasnt had a mention yet? Surprising. :)

The Madrid away game stands out but De Gea has had so many at this point its hard to pick one.

For the importance of the saves big Pete at St James' takes beating. They battered us in that first half and would have hammered us if they scored first. The game that broke Newcastle.

 @ those 12%+ voted for Lingard/Pogba for MOTM.

The "offensive players/goals" factor certainly outweighs "defensive players/saves" for these people.

DDG could again be the X factor against City. I hope we can keep him away from Real, for as long as possible IMO :o:o

Easy to get caught up in the present & find it hard to imagine as good a performance as we saw today but let's not forget just how good Schmeichel was. De Gea's been our best player for the last 5 seasons & he's certainly in the conversation for our best ever keeper but Schmeichel had special days like today as well.

We've been so lucky in that position for the last 25 years.
Taibi was the low, Barthez & Howard were better than most keepers in the league & Schmeichel, VDS & Big Dave were/are the best in the league. Scary to imagine how much worse the post-Sir Alex years could have been without him.

As someone said, DDG is like Messi, he does extraordinary things in such abundance that it seems normal.

    Performance for the ages.

Greatest I've witnessed first hand in my life. Arsenal players were in disbelief. Must've been at the very least 5 shots that were labelled for the back of the net that didn't find the netting.

    Dave fecking saves boys.

Was it really that good? There were two saves that were unbelievable but most of them you'd expect any very good keeper to save.

It's got to be up there as one of the great goalkeeping performances ever. Obviously Schmeichel vs Newcastle springs to mind. The question is fast becoming whether DDG has surpassed Schmeichel. I used to think Schmeichel was the best ever but DDG is making a strong claim for sure.

That was good for DDG's standard. Arsenal had 15 shoots on target which 14 had been saved by DDG. No matter how you spin it, be it straight toward the keeper, too low, too easy, thats still impressive. I bet if that wasn't DDG, Unite will conceded more definitely.

I have seen a lot of good goalkeepers in my time watching football since the early 50's and this performance by De Gea is one of the best I have seen.

yes i am....what is so bad about this post that labels it worse ever? Pr**

Who ever posted about Schemeical saving from Anelka in the 2008 got his wires crossed...... He's either going on about the FA cup semi in 99, or some other game i have no idea about.

So...check my facts out my little trolling clown and *** off! Time waster. Get a f*** life!

 worth a screenshot for sure

Sit down and take a deep breath.

Now. Re-read his post sunshine. He said van der Sar v Anelka in 2008. When we WON THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE!

Where did he say anything about 'Schemeical' in that? He didn't! The funny thing is you actually addressed him mentioning VDS here:

...and then you brought up Schmeichel. Apparently now you're saying he mentioned Schmeichel in 2008, but he didn't. If you weren't so blinded by your own impotent rage maybe you would have read his post properly

    In summary:

@Traub mentions VDS saving Anelka's penalty in the Champions League Final shootout, that won us the Champions League.

You then told him that never happened  Then brought up a different penalty save 9 years ago.

I laughed at you thinking VDS never played against Anelka, and somehow forgetting us winning the Champions League.

You then decided @Traub mentioned 'Schmeichel in 2008' (despite having already addressed him talking about VDS in 2008...).

The big clue for how ridiculous your post was is all the replies it got:

P.S. here's Van der Sar's save from Anelka in 2008. FYI this is not Peter Schmeichel, nor is it Peetr Schmeical.
