Not sure how ethical it is but i've just realised its pretty much a win win situation for a United fan tonight surely? Put some ££ on City to win and if they draw or lose United have gained thee most valuable points of the season?

Basically if City win you get a slight cushion of some money?

How many of you would do this? For me i dont see that much of a problem but I could fully understand why some people (probably most) would be like "feck off you dont bet against United" but similarly i dont like betting on United :nervous:

just a quick look. PaddyPower offers 5/4 for a City win. I.E: £50 returns £112.50

The time to do it was when we were 7 points clear and the odds were brilliant to back city to win the tittle, its just about double your money now so not really worth it at all as you'd have to put a large amount on to get anything decent back.

Also if you are doing this back city to win the tittle, better odds and if they win this game. Best thing to do would to just be to get behind your team.

I know a couple of fans who do this. You basically hedging your team's loss.

I hedge all the time - it's hardly win/win but does give a bit of silver lining to a really grey cloud!

I don't often stick a bet on but was in the bookies the other day and stuck £1 (oh yeh!) on 2-2 Rooney first scorer at 60/1.

Not for me, I'd rather feel doubly good or doubly shit. I've put $100 on United to win at $3.50.

I'm going to be putting 50 on City winning. I like a win win situation, you still feel like shit mind you, you just have some extra cash.

    I'll be doing this.

Not sure whether to stick £25 on City to win tonight at 2.2 or £25 on City to win the league at 2.9.

I put £7.50 on City winning the league. Better odds than just backing them to win tonight. Really it should've been done when they were about 20/1 which in truth were absurd odds. It'll be the happiest £7.50 I've ever lost, but should the unthinkable happen at least I have something to come back.

I put a tenner on city to win tonight. Bet against United the whole way through the CL in 99 and it worked out well then!

I don't think they were absurd at all. In hindsight, yes, but you have to remember the chain of events to let City back in.

City had to win against West Brom at home and Norwich and Wolves Away coming off the back of a form of 3 Losses 2 Draws and 1 win in all competitions and still have to play United at home, Newcastle away and a QPR team scraping like hell to stay in the League.

United had (have) to slip up against more than one of Wigan, Villa, Everton, City, Swansea or Sunderland.

I think 20-1 was about right.

Do it. It's the best way to take the edge off the game...no matter what the result you'll end up getting some joy out of it.

Suggestions for other bookies with better odds or other things to bet on? I will list some of my personal favourites (All from Unibet)

Rooney to score first @ 8.00
One or more red cards @ 2.90
United to win by more than a goal @ 6.20
    1-2 to United @ 12.50
At least one own goal @ 8.00

Well to put it in perspective, at the start of the season, Liverpool were about 12/1. Yes we were eight points clear and should've had it wrapped up, but the next three or four games, we were playing in-form teams like Wigan and Everton whereas they weren't, and had a home game against us to come. You could even get 1/40 for us, odds I doubt we'll get if we draw tonight.

£250 on City to win tonight at 5/4 and £300 on City to win the league at 7/4. The worst thing that can happen football wise this season is I'm £1,387.50 better off than I am right now.

If you're betting against United I'd rather bet on the league than the game. The game could end up a draw. Personally I think we'll draw tonight and then win the league.

It doesn't really help. If we lose but I win £100 or something I would still be absolutely gutted, however it can't hurt, and once I get over the loss I'll be glad to have an extra bit of money. Going to put a bet on City for the title. I'll happily lose however much I bet if it means us winning :D

Put a double on City to win tonight and against Newcastle. They have to win both and you get better odds. 2/1 I think.

When the gap was 8 points I was one click of a button from putting 25quid on city to win the league at around 19s on betfair. I didnt because i thought there would be now way United would make a balls of this and even so there was no way city would win all their remaining games. I wish i took that bet now

Dont understand anyone putting a tenner on city to win tonight. 12 quid winnings is not going to soften any blow for anyone really is it.

Same, think it was around 22 when City were losing at home to Sunderland...£250+ would definitely have softened the blow enough for me. Might stick on a tenner when United are 1-0 up today on City to win the league but there's probably better odds on City winning from behind.

People seem to forgetting the game might end in a draw, why not bet on either 1X or X2 and go with a larger bet to compensate for the lower odds?

I had a look and nothing is long enough odds that the a stake i can afford would soften the blow of a defeat in the slightest. Might have a look if we score 1st

Tevez to score at any time and City to win at 5/1 with William Hill is a good one for the nervous wrecks amongst us.
