You mean third party ownership?
Its news to me as well.
So here is my opinion. I think they are trying to cheat the system. So say they sign a promising youngster from a different league who can't get a permit to play for the first year in England instead "Sporting" sign him and he gets to play a year in European football at a high level. This way City don't lose out on potential gems and signings to there rivals.
So kind of like what united had with that Belgian club. Expect some city kids and foreign players who can’t get a work permit to be shuffled to Portugal for game time.
Surely long term this will hurt Sportings and indeed Portugal’s development of their own players
Still waiting on the online report to go public because I don't have the premium version of the record but I don't think it means 3rd party ownership.
As an example say City or Sporting sign a young talent from idk Norway or Argentina or whatever they will each share a percentage of the pass but I don't know how much. Could be 50/50 40/60 25/75 but I would imagine City get the better end of it all because they are the club with the financial power. I also assume they have the money to lure the top talents and then tell them "Hey you will be playing at a great club like Sporting who is known to develop young players and get you assimilated with European football" Then if the player in question is Man City level they take him from Sporting for a "fee" and if he is Sporting level but not so much City level they get to keep the player and then sell him on in the future to a different club with City getting a cut.
City would get first dibs on our best talents I can only imagine as well since now we are "friends"
As for Bruno Fernandes he is not part of this deal.
I agree if it is what I think it is then yes I think Sporting will lose. Also because there is a rule you cant sign players from different markets or something like that so instead Sporting would sign them so City tony lose out.
Or say there is a top south American talent that Sporting can afford City would pay most of it and Sporting get the rest and they split the percentages.
Either way stupid move by Sporting President.
It says Sporting does not want to loan City players but isn't this still the same thing? because any top talent we sign we know city basically own him because they probably dished out the most money on him.
Veloso clearly became an unmotivated footballer, because while his professionalism levels were good he was a fantastic defensive midfielder. Then he got overweight and his physical condition was not the best.
I finally realized who he reminds me of, Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Interesting. But agreeing a deal for him is different to agreeing a deal with him, right. Like when Ed made a deal with Levy for Bale but didn't sound out Bale's camp and thought it would just be a formality, him wanting to join us. I'd be surprised if Dybala wants to join us.
Yes, City are playing games with us as usual.
Thats a really smart move by City, would be plucking all the top Portugese up. Their future looks really bright
Is there any reliable source linking him to us?
Yes I suppose that’s true. Dybala could well snub us.
I never get the hate he gets on here. And it's always about him being bald too.
Liverpool fans hate him, I know that much
Sounds like an endorsement to me.
Yeah so frustrating to be linked with him so many times and it never come to fruition.
Top talent and class player.
I imagine Wolves will tail off as he does in the next season or two. He’s been their driving force this season.
Hopefully it’s not the same old story with Bruno. Honestly, if Wolves get him I’ll be proper hacked off. Moreso than if City were to sign him.
Now today says Sporting wont take anything less than 70M and that they have sent him an offer to renew his contract which would make him the highest paid player in the team.
I like him, but we’re not paying 70m for the lad. Move on.
1 Thats euro.
2 how much do you think we are going to get him for?
Yeah, I know. 50m-60m as was quoted previously by @SportingCP96
Van Der Beek is cheaper. They can get lost.
Didn't he specifically say that the supposed interest in Fernandes has largely been concocted by Sporting in order to make a market for him.
He'll probably end up at Milan or something, for about half the fees being quoted in the Portuguese press.
Is his Dad fat?
Mourinho bias aside, he does get some things right. Was the first to call Herrera to PSG. He isn't a complete bullshitter.
And worse. If you want to judge by numbers considering he is playing for the best team in a worse league.
Im not saying van der Beek is bad btw.
City "doing a sanchez" is actually a fantastic strategy and something levels above what our board is capable of. Just look at the price increase it caused along with disruption to our future negotiations.
Portuguese sides are great at getting ridiculous fees for their players, Mendes no doubt. The Dutch are really bad at it.
Mostly anyone involved with Mendes is great at getting big fees. That guy is a crook and cancer to football.
I don't see that. If they aren't in for him and say, we are, then the competition is gone which weakens Sporting's position. My guess is that City were in for him but got sick of Sporting asking for so much. The rumours were that they were far apart on sell on fees on some players that were to be exchanged.
Sporting are playing tonight if anyone wants to check him out
Van De Beek has performed in the Champions League..
Game is in 20 minutes last home game of the season. The big one is the cup final vs Porto May 25th.
Everyone at Ajax did... was a product of the philosophy of the club which fits him well and they were on such a high everything was coming off. Like I said he plays in the best team in the league in a worse league then Portugal and has less impressive numbers and statistics. He is a good player but would not trade him with Fernandes at Sporting. Fernandes in this Ajax team would score for fun.
Or City can realise that a good way to hurt rivals is to ramp up the prices by feigning interest and making them weaker for any future deals with genuine competition. It's not 3D chess it's just basic strategy. Barca and Madrid do it to each other all the time, we should be doing it to genuine City targets.
The reason some want Van De Veek is because of how he's performed in the Champions League. The same applies to De Ligt and De Jong. People would be alot more wary if it was just the Dutch League.
But they've withdrawn their interest publicly. They'd have to pretend to be interested to the end for that to work.
He looks skinny which is a massive plus for our scouts.
No I get it but the standout stars are De Jong, De Ligt, Tadic, and Ziyech followed by Neres....everyone else was riding the waves of there good form and philosophy implemented by the coach.
Separate names with a comma.
