Last season he had great numbers as well with 16 goals and 18 assists. What happened was the way he was positioned to play and the license to get forward he got from Jorge Jesus which helped him really maximize his potential and quality. This season under Keizer he has a similar role if not the same one as last season but he just took it to a whole new level as soon as he got the arm band.

Pogba 140m is bargain. He has more seasons to come, He should be on 200m at least.

Yet another goal for Bruno Fernandes this time from.... a header. Not a typical goal from here but still that is now 28 for the season.

Almost at 30 for the season which will be remarkable for a midfielder.

I strongly doubt we will sign him. I’m sure we have watched him, and it would be negligent not to watch a young midfielder who has scored 30 goals, but my suspicion is the Portuguese press have just run with it.

His numbers are crazy. How many games are left? What he's done is already phenomenal, but it would be something else if he could get to 35.

Yep, there's reason to be skeptical. Considering Bruno is the focal point of Sporting CP, he will almost definitely clash with Pogba (who's supposed to be the focal point of our midfield). There he has the freedom and the license to express himself, and he won't necessarily be afforded those luxuries at United (and they do inflate his production to a significant degree). Not to mention, there's a bit of an overlap between their respective skill sets (analogous to Milinković-Savić: who was a purported target last summer, despite having a few things in common with Pogba), so it could lead to a Lampard + Ballack situation where they aren't the most symbiotic. That being said, you never quite know how specific players will mesh with each other — maybe they can strike up a special understanding ahead of a resolute defensive midfielder and share the burden...not very realistic but who knows, really. Someone like Arthur would have been a more intuitive fit — so composed, so intelligent, so effortless, and operates in less aggressive positions. Or indeed De Jong, even Bentancur.

Problem is, Pogba has shown that he can't consistently be the focal point of our midfield. We need somebody that will step up on his off days or pose enough threat to give Pogba more freedom to operate.

Don't disagree with your observation, to be fair — we most certainly do need at least another consistent “threat” from midfield. However, someone who's a primarily an accomplished passer/creator can also be a significant threat (in terms of opening up the play despite operating in more conservative areas) and will be a better complement to Pogba. I'm thinking along the lines of Pirlo or Kroos (who didn't/don't put up crazy production statistics on their own but left/leave a big impact on the game). Or even someone like peak Gündogan, or Verratti (who would dovetail beautifully with Paul and there won't be a danger of them stepping on each others' toes because they have fundamentally different styles). Obviously, we won't be able to procure players of that caliber in the summer, but maybe we can target someone with similar characteristics from the up-and-coming lot.

The moment we signed Pogba, our options in the other central midfield positions became a bit more limited because he's such a unique player — and we should keep that at the forefront of our midfield rejuvenation strategy because it's still off-balance and clunky after all the spending in the post-Ferguson era. Both Bruno and Félix are exciting players in the Primeira Liga, but won't be the most cohesive fits if we force them into a team that prioritizes Pogba, Martial, Rashford (you'll have to either drop some of them or use them in sub-optimal roles...like Pogba as the central midfielder between Bruno and a #6). From that standpoint, Pogba + Bruno could be a bit like Scholes + Verón — not in terms of characteristics per se but in the sense that while the combination looks droolworthy on paper, there's scope for the scheme to backfire.

The thing i miss from those 4-4-2 times is the flexibility to use many talents in the midfield. Three up front with wingers is good only for managers imo. The academies dont really can produce so many talented wingers. In the vast majority of games even in the top leagues the wingers operate almost as offensive full backs. Very few of them are able to beat a man. With 4-4-2 it would be possible to line up Pogba and Bruno Fernandes for example. Lukaku would probably look better with Rashford as ss.

I'm sold on this guy now. We lack creativity and threat from midfield aside from Pogba. He could play as the furthest forward of a three with Pogba playing the 8, as a proper #10 in a 4231 if Ole sets us up like today or on the right. His technical ability, movement and goal threat would make us a more fluid, attacking side instantly.

So reports coming out in Portugal that apparently to convince Bruno Fernandes to come back after he rescinded interim president Cintra put a 35M release Clause on Fernandes....(don’t know why as I did not read the full report). 35M...... release clause.....(kill me)

So now the new president at Sporting is trying to renew his contract substantially to keep him and also raise his release clause to 100M.

Lastly the report also mentions that Man City are also interested in signing him.

Well rule us out then as we definitely won't be interested at 35m.

That's the kind of business other clubs do.

    Is that euros ?

This is a no brainer of a signing!

How would you rank him in terms of best players to come out of the portugese league in recent times? He seems like the best for a long time.

He's going to be a bargain for someone, hopefully for us. Can see City wanting to replace Gundogan with him and he'd be an upgrade for Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea midfield.

35M for a player like him in today’s market is pretty much free. I just can’t believe how stupid the interim president Sousa Cintra was. As a Sporting fan I hope we can sign an extension as quick as possible before someone knocks on the door and pays that clause.

If there was any doubt in signing him before the board would be stupid not to jump on this for 35M. It’s a safe bet with huge upside.

35m would be a good gamble for any top team.

This signing is not a gamble, its as much a sure thing as Mbappe performing when he signed for PSG. This guy will be a top player, not only is his end product ridiculous but watching him play he has so much personality and confidence, you could take away his goals and he'd still be a good player because he brings other players into the game.

You just know Spurs are going to go for him at that price to maybe replace Eriksen.

    It’s a no-brainer either way.

If it’s true, it just means we’ll have a lot more competition for him unfortunately.

35m is a fecking steal in todays market. Remember when Spurs bought Eriksen for 13m or whatever it was. With the amount of players we would need and good deals are always of interest, Ed should be on the plane to Lisbon

Another Assist for him with a brilliant pass to set up Raphinha for the first goal in the game.

Too shrewd for Woodward, he wants a big fee so we can get trending on social media.

I think we will sign him. He will be Ole's Rooney.
    Something like a 4- 4- 1-1
