Carlos Soler is the midfielder we are scouting most now.

Carlos Soler of Valencia has been scouted for the last 2 months now, and the talk in Spain is that we have enquired about him. What do you think.

Andreas Pereira doesn't like this thread. He could be used as a make-weight mind.

Our midfield certainly would be more dependent on Soler power :nervous:

Then why is Soler in the Valencia team and Andreas is just getting a few minutes here and there?

    • Better understanding with team-mates.
    • Understands the way the team play more
    • Might want to develop their own player over a loanee
Not saying it's definitely the case Pereira is better or anything, but if he is there's still plenty of reasons he wouldn't be playing over Soler.

Pity Andreas didn't stop here as we could have done with him yesterday. We need that extra body in midfield and he is sat warming the bench at Valencia.

It will only be temporary. Fellaini will be back soon by the reports, and then he would have the same problem here.

Yeah I mean in one sense, United apparently got a good loan fee, have the option to recall in January and he was guaranteed minutes (all of this reports, not sure if any of it is true), but there was always a chance of injuries happening and United being left short of numbers in midfield.

At worst even if not, I'm sure he could have eaten in to Lingard's minutes. Maybe he and United would have expected him to have more minutes than he has at Valencia as I know Guedes has been in great form and replaced him in the starting line-up, but I think adding it up he probably would have played more minutes at United than he has at Valencia so far. He could have started against Huddersfield yesterday as a more natural #10 than Lingard + eaten in to his sub appearances, and probably started Burton, maybe even Palace and CSKA.

Soler seems more of a Silva type of player while Pereira is more of a Coutinho. The question is how do people rate each of the players when pitted against each other.

    Soler Vs Periera???

Can we have both in the team? Why does it have to be one of them?

No matter who we buy , ultimately the likes of fellaini, young,.Lingard find their way into starting 11 and bring their mediocrity to our squad.

I find it baffling that this is even a relevant question when scouting a midfielder.

When Fergie was manager it was "Can he play in a 2?", with LVG it was all about whether he could kick with his left foot and with Jose it's all about size.

Mourinho generally likes his signings to have height:

    Defenders:
    Bailly - 1.87m
    Lindelof - 1.87m

    Midfielders:
    Matic - 1.94m
    Pogba - 1.91m

    Forwards:
    Ibrahimovic - 1.95m
    Lukaku - 1.91m

The only exception in his time here has been Mkhitaryan (1.78m)

Carlos Soler to replace Mata on RW
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to play in a midfield two with Pogba (rotation with Matic)
Mesut Ozil to fight it out with Mhiki for No. 10 position

He's tall enough to be fair, ~181cm isn't short by any means. Plus, he comes across as the lovechild of Koke and Rubén Baraja in terms of ability and burgeoning status at the Mestalla.

Not every Mourinho midfielder is or was of gargantuan proportions either: Modrić, Sneijder, Özil, Cambiasso, Makelélé, Fàbregas, Deco, Maniche enjoyed a lot of success under him...the height thing at United might be coincidental in that the players that José coveted happened to be tall - as opposed to 6'1"+ height being a prerequisite.

Essien and Lampard weren't giants too.

It's just lazy criticism of Jose.

He has signed two CMs for Man United. I doubt he signed Pogba because he was just tall.

This might be influenced by having quite a short team when he took over

Height should not matter. Skill and determination wins through at all times. This soler guy has bags of skill, so they are saying over in Spain. My mate tells me he is wanted by all the big teams, and that we would do well to bag him now. The talk is we have made contact with him.

I'm not a fan of this talk of "poor Periera" would have to warm the bench if he had stayed here. If you're not good enough to force your way into the team then you don't deserve a place. We need players with a bit of bottle, people who are not happy to sit on the bench and will train harder and be better than their team mates so they can force their way into the team.

We were linked with a deal to sign him as a youth player on a free i think. I made a thread on it or posted in it. So it looks like our interest in him is longstanding and he is someone we want and have been scouting. We did a similar thing with sanches and Lindelof.

True, but we also did this with players like Bernardeschi, Berardi, Oberlin and didn't end up signing them. We'll see though. I need to see a lot more of him to have any opinon. He's absolutely mustard in my FM team though :).

Oberlin actually rejected us and recently gave an interview saying he chose RBover us because here he would have to play for academy and the reserves and the path to the first team would be extremely hard. Bernardeschi was never going to leave italy and we are still scouting berardi and have an expert in italy football now in Ribalta who would know him more than anyone.

Pointless signing for our system. If Jose wants to sign any Valencia players it should be Guedes and/or Gaya (if he survives a medical).

Yeah, I was just saying there is always a flipside. I hope we do push through with someone we've spent a lot of time folllowing, as I imagine we would rate them to do so.

He's been playing as a right winger/midfielder for Valencia this season. Will certainly explain why we're looking for him.

Yeah, and the fact he can also play in a 2 man midfield doubles his usefullness, as in a situation like we have right now he'd be able to shift into the creative box to box alongside Matic while Pogba's out.

Invictus summed him really well a few posts above, he's reminiscent of Koke.

Genuinely no idea. I've just saw his positions on whoscored.com

@Invictus seems to have described him well. @Ekeke and @jojojo are our resident Valencia person though.
