Because we're 6th in our league and have lost most of our CB's and only proper goal scorer?
Is there an argument here or just ad hominem?
Err... no we're not @Von Mistelroum
While we'll be playing Arsenal and Spurs, they'll be playing their second team as there's nothing left to play for in the league.
Will be a big ask.
Tough draw, hoping we can beat them over two legs though. We definitely need a few away goals.
i think there's a good chance we will have nothing to play for also
we will just need to take our chances better.... if Rashford/Mhiki/Martial get some games together and develop confidence we will put them to bed
Oh, come on mate, we are the clear favourites. Of course it's football so that does not mean it will be easy or that they can't win. But looking strictly at form, history, playing personnel, managers, fanbase, etc, United is the clear favourite here.
They are tenth on their table, we are fifth. They have conceded 51 goals, we have conceded 24. They have lost 13 times, we have lost 3 times. I struggle to see one player in their team that can make the Manchester United first eleven.
We have been hit by injuries but our squad is deep enough to take out Celta Vigo. The only problem will be if we don't play with heart, hunger and pride or if bad refereeing decisions go against us.
You're basing our status as favourites on the Anderlecht game while ignoring the fact Celta really struggled to get through their tie.
It doesn't make sense. United battered Anderlecht but missed chance after chance while Celta were hanging on for dear life.
That's why we're favourites. We are simply better.
I think they are stronger than Anderlecht so we need 100 % to reach the final. Will be very tough.
We've only lost a couple of times in what, 25 matches? I wouldn't be worried about losing either leg but I think going out on away goals given our lack of taking chances is a possibility.
Problem is we play Arsenal in between the two legs.
There's zero possibility Mourinho would risk losing to Arsene and hence unlikely to rest the team.
Yes, we should win this.
We are 5th.
We're huge favourites according to the bookmakers and they're rarely wrong, they have us at 5/6, below even money shot. What odds do you think we should be? If you think that the bookies have it very wrong you should lay us on Betfair, just wait til I'm logged in first!
It's Celta Vigo. We are favourites in everyone's book.
I have a good feeling about the Europa and the league. Jose and the team proved their mettle last night.
Not checked the table recently?
You might be pleasantly surprised
To be honest, and I fully know that this will sound controversial, I think we should be doing the same.
We have a horrendous fixture list with away games at Arsenal, Spurs and City all the while playing catch-up. It's gonna be incredibly hard to make top 4 and the way things stand, it'd be a lot easier to win the EL no doubt about it.
We should field a strong team at the Etihad, but if the result does not go our way we should really be focusing on EL after that. That's my 2p
We'll need to get minimum 1-1 draw at their pitch or the home leg will very tough.
But whatever there's no excuses for us not passing them.
Didn't matter who United drew. All ties equally winnable and equally tricky.
I agree and we might field a weaken side against Swansea.
I seriously can't see Mourinho risking a lost to Arsene Wenger. If losing to Conte hurts, he'll die losing to Wenger.
Rossi plays for them, on loan for Fiorentina.
How dare you. We're 5th!
Crunch time, but not actually too bad. City away would always have been tough, but no impact from Europe.
Swansea at home before heading to Spain is a nice warm up. Arsenal away will be a little more taxing after playing away, but Spain is not much of a trip and won't be too hot in early May. And let's be honest Arsenal are pretty poor, we should be beating them.
Then home to Celta should be fine, as 4 days from Arsenal game.
Spurs away we might be knackered so that stands out as a nightmare game, but at least it is off back of a home game. All depends how title is heading by then. If they are still in the running they will be relentless, otherwise they may well have started tapering.
Why not look at this the other way? Do you really think celta, Lyon and Ajax would have been thinking anything other than " for feck sake " drawing us?
Thing is it's their last ever game at White Hart Lane. They'll be up for it no matter what.
I will be happy with a score draw in the away leg, preferably 2-2, 3-3 because I can see Celta scoring at least 1 at Old Trafford.
I can't see us winning all three of Burnley, City and Swansea before the first leg. We might already realistically not have much chance of top 4 by the time Celta roll around so can rotate players. If we have won all three of those games then we might actually make top 4 and the pressure would be off.
We'll just play like we did at West Ham's last home game....
Should be beating them and comfortably over two legs.
Of course we'll probably have a 2012 Bilbao type experience and make them look like Brazil.
Do they have any suspensions from the QF?
Isn't he fecked?
He's injured (as always )
I'm not a betting man, so I wouldn't put all your faith in my divinations. However, I saw a team yesterday that is still mentally fragile struggle to put away simple chances against a mediocre opponent. Celta have the shades of Bilbao about them from all those years ago.
I hope I am wrong and that we go all the way, but so far, yes, we haven't lost a lot of games, doesn't mean we've looked convincing.
I think our toughest opponent is ourselves, we look fatigued and mentally weak in certain areas and also we are just not clinical enough in front of goal.
Bilbao was under an excellent manager and also had the services of players like Herrera, Martinez, Munain(when he wasn't injured and was a genuine wonderkid). Not every midtable Spanish team is Bilbao lads.
We are 5th though.
How dare you
Celta can be difficult. It's a team that needs a trophy. In the past they had options in la liga (Berizzo,Karpin,Mostovoi) and lost a copa del rey, so probably It will be the most important match of the club in recent years.
Balaídos atmosphere is not impressing but they show clear ideas and personality playing against big teams.
If you look at it , the sitters were all missed by Zlatan who clearly out of his form yesterday so it was one player's problem. Rest of chances bar the Rashford one ( which people forget if it wasn't for Rash this chance wouldn't have even been present , he created it for himself ) were from difficult angles and not that easy.
We were frustrated yesterday so we couldn't judge fairly but yesterday it was Zlatan's problem , not the whole team.
