The Schalke side we faced in 2011 were verrry different to Monaco last year.

It was a gimme for us.

Monaco was a very good team, but let's be honest against the first strong tactical team they meet, they fell down.

They never looked like they belonged on the same pitch as juventus. City themselves were battering them for most of both legs -only pathetic finishing and some hilarious non-defending got them kicked out. Dortmund suffered that attack before the first leg -which they dominated and were incredibly unlucky to even lose, again, bad finishing, some bad defending and a bad ref

    Anyways, bring on Besiktas

I'd fancy us against Juve and Madrid. Bayern not so much.

Not particularly worried. Liverpool and PSG are the two teams that (sort of)scare me

Would like City for the chance to smash baldy. Feel nothing about United. If we're worse then you and go out, so be it. But i think we should be better and i like the match-up. Liverpool is a bad match-up for us, and PSG worse. Roma would be better and Besiktas best

But i'd take city given the chance

    Why?

I rather play a team like Madrid in Feb rather than when they in their stride during April. We going to have to beat one of these sides to go through.

I rather face a top side and see how far are we off Europeans elite.

They didn't turn up for Tottenham. They actually look washed out/jaded. Neither Bayern nor Juventus are anything special anymore, at least not this season.

Why are people underestimating chelsea? They are probably the best English team in Europe and would beat Barca . PSG will be a tough outing though.

Don't want Bayern. They look back to their best with Heycknes. We can beat both Juve and Madrid though.

No way are Real Madrid going to be knocked out in the round of 16. They'll find a way to squeeze through. I reckon Juve is more 'vulnerable' to lose against Utd over 2 legs.

Would like Spartak Moscow or Porto, but wouldn't mind Bayern if we had to play a 'big' team.

How are Chelsea the best English team in the CL?

I'd fancy our chances against Juve or Bayern. Real Madrid would knock us out, they are the UCL masters, Ronaldo has been mostly dogshit in the liga this season, but he always turns up in the UCL.

As good as Real can be it is Bayern that scare me the most They are picking up their game and will be fully ready. I want to see us go as far as possible and with the luck of draw we can. But one thing that gives comfort to me is our manager. He somehow knows how to do a job a in a 2 legged affair.

Chelsea-Barca and Man United/ Man City-Real Madrid. These are really the 3 most likely fixtures if Liverpool and Sevilla wins. Hope we can avoid Real and Bayern while City gets them :). Although knowing City they will get bloody Basel.

I feel quite the opposite. City and united will give you a tougher test than Liverpool at the moment.

With your goal scoring problems , you will struggle to score and both Manchester team has every chance to pick you up in counter. Though Liverpool will attack, they are as soft as house of cards at the back and Modric/Kroos will have a field day.

Ofcourse, these all are relative and Ronaldo would find his scoring boots and you could win CL again

They are third in the league, and a manager that has a poor record in europe. Meanwhile Utd and City have managers that have won 2 champions league each.

    Your post makes no sense.

That's because it really has been too long. Didn't qualify for R16 in 11/12, knocked out in R16 by Real in 12/13, knocked out by Bayern in 13/14 before the semi's, no CL campaign in 14/15, 3rd place in the group in 15/16 and no CL again last season.

Because , I think City and United are not better than them .
Also thinking, they are yet to hit their full potential and we will see the same over the coming months.

Semedo got booked tonight in a dead rubber and picked up a suspension because of it.
The Barca manager should be docked wages for that decision

Never said anything about the league mate and I dont think a manager's history make any significance in matches like this.

    Porto would be nice.

I would still back us to beat Real, Bayern or Juve over two legs.

Yeah if we still aren't scoring come February even Besiktas would kick us out. Kind of a moot point

We know how to play against Guardiola. And teams that sit deep and look to hit us on the counter are our bread and butter. It's the hyper-aggressive, physical teams with lots of pace who press us high and don't give us time to breath that we struggle against -teams like Liverpool

4 years since we last participated in the knockout stages. I've been missing it so much and I'm sure everybody else has too. Bring it on!

I think we'll avoid the big guns this time, but will face Juventus / Real Madrid if we go through.

Provided they go through yes, but I think we'd be very fortunate (notice I didn't use lucky) to not get one of Bayern, Juventus, or Madrid. Part of me wants us to get Madrid and DDG have a masterclass shutting down they're shots.

Tbh id rather Bayern/Juve than Madrid. Madrid not great this year but more than capable of killing anyone.

Job done and minimum target achieved for the season and the bookkeepers... not the most exciting instalment but we are in the middle of a foundational rebuilding so ok... not going to worry about our r16 oppos until Feb 1 and whoever comes, good, it will be an interesting tie.

Spurs stand a 5 out of 7 chance of avoiding Bayern or Juve, can't be drawn against PSG, Roma, Barca or Real Madrid ... and play the 2nd leg at home.

    I'll settle for that.

Good news for Spurs. Good chance of avoiding all the heavy hitters. Good chance at last 8 then.

Spurs can't play Chelsea so only 6 teams they can play against. Also if Liverpool finish second it is only 5 teams. The odds for you playing against Juventus, Napoli, Sevilla will be higher than 1/6 as well if they qualify since they have teams they can't play against due to being from the same country so that increase the odds that they play against your team. Bayern, Basel, Shaktar, Spartak, Porto, Leipzig will potentially be lower odds though.

At best around 2/3 chance to avoid them really. Although Bayern will not be very likely so that is good for you.

For us Real Madrid is most likely and if Sevilla wins the group and we finish second it will be huge odds to get Real Madrid for us.

As it stands there's going to be a few big teams eliminated in R16 unless some serious ball warming goes on. Perhaps they can invite Sepp back to conduct the draw

Honestly don't care who we get.
    Bring it.
I don't think we are ready to win this, but with Jose as manager I think he can come up with a game plan to beat anyone over 2 legs

Let's avoid Real and we can't complain. Chelsea and Juve would be quite tough too.

Can we meet an English team or Basle in last 16?
