No we can't.
Your Roma and Napoli’s are always up for it, not sure if I’d like those draws. Would rather a big European tie where we can take the game to them.
This........but we should go through to Quarters regardless. What matters is the players that we will have available.
Avoid Bayern and Real and we're favourites to go through in my opinion.
We ll probably get Bayern or Juve while Chelsea get Besiktas
A 3/7 chance we get a mega club. UEFA usually keep Real Madrid happy so we may avoid that so Bayern or Juve more likely. I'd take Juve but Bayern I'd be a bit worried.
Real. They are ageing and vulnerable now. Beating them then we send the real message to the world that we are back to our place and ready to claim what is ours. Also a high doping motivation effect for acceleration stage in part two of this season
i rather we get the big boys rather than dark horse.
if we lose at least we have an excuse. in cup tournament it's better to play as underdog, they won't know what's going to hit them
Honestly, at this point I don't care who we get if it is Porto or the likes of Real/Bayern. We are way way better than we used to be 1-2 years ago, and if we go out early and City are still in till the Quarters/Semis that'll only help us in the PL. I think we have a good 40-45% chance of beating the big dogs Real/Bayern if we meet them in the top 16. Yes, we won't be the favorites against them but we have nothing to lose. Our goal probably is reaching the top 8 in the CL because it has been a long time since we have played proper good football(SAF's last season) so we should be fearless and we have a coach in Jose who although I disagree in a lot of his tactics is a specialist in these 2 legged affairs. And if we draw Porto, we'll easily beat them and probably have a 90% chance of meeting the real big dogs in the Quarters such as Barca/PSG in this year's competition
So it looks like it'll be either Barcelona or PSG for us. Wouldn't complain if we got Beşiktaş but big ties are what the Champions League is about, and if won they taste twice as sweet. Against Barcelona or PSG I think we're slight underdogs, but a draw against Beşiktaş shouldn't be taken lightly. Although their group wasn't the best it's impressive to (so far) go through it undefeated.
The restructuring they had of the groups they had this year has in my opinion been pretty good for the competition. Some groups have been very strong, and as a result there have been some crucial matches early on in the competition, something that perhaps has been lacking in the competition lately. A couple of years ago it at times felt as if the group stage was just a sorting excercise and the inevitable pot 1 and 2 teams would go through either way, so this has been a breath of fresh air.
Based on what your view is. I fancy Jose's mighty second year doctrine so i think he is capable of making it for the third time and this year Champions League trophy has been destined for us since the moment he signed his United contract
Well, there's confidence for you.
Not worried who we get we have a good defence and can counter fast and play ugly if we need to so i dont care who it is and i half want real madrid.
Love the confidence
Genuinely excited at the thought of watching United line out against one of the big guns! Back where we belong!
I want to see Bayern vs City & Chelsea vs Barca.
Not concerned about the draw. It is really the time to show that we are back in the UCL and we can take anyone. Real or Juve would be nice.
My only concern are our inevitable injury curse come Round 16..
A little premature but it's a good graph nonetheless. Unfortunately it works in our favour if Liverpool top theirs...
United aren't going to beat Bayern, come on now
If City get Real they will have Cristiano, Marcelo, Bale and Isco out.
If City get Bayern they will have Lewondski, James and Robben out.
So I don't think it matters who City get the best opposing will be out.
It is what it is.
Based on past few seasons, the draw always throws up ties with good narratives. Jose to get a return to Madrid and Pep returns to Bayern.
How those percentage works based on? Any special rules beside clubs from same country and same previous grup cannot be drawn each other?
No, but Chelsea for example can't play all of United, City, Liverpool or Tottenham while Barça can't play Madrid or Sevilla which makes it more likely that Chelsea will be facing Barça rather than Besiktas or PSG.
We can beat any team in this competition.
But it still doesn't make sense. Why is there 14.84% for us getting Bayern Munich, but 18.33% for us getting Sevilla?
If they draw Manchester United, they put six balls into one bowl and there's the same chance of us getting any team... Six if groups E-H finish how it is today (so it won't be possible for us to get Basel and Chelsea), if Liverpool or Tottenham finish second, then there will be fewer teams we can get.
100% : 6 = 16.6% for every team.
'You had claim what is ours' in a paragraph that involved Real Madrid, the 11 time winner of the competition. If any club were going to say it is theirs, it would be them as no-one else is anywhere near them in terms of times they've won it.
Just thought it read funny.
I guess it's down to the fact that it's not certain Sevilla will end up 2nd.
I think we will get Juve next round.
Because Bayern have seven possible opponents and Sevilla have six.
You have to include the likelihood of the other team’s possible opponents in the equation. It’s not just about who Man Utd can possibly draw.
Because Sevilla can't draw Barcelona in pot 1 meaning out of all possible combinations there are more combinations where Manchester United and Sevilla stay together than combinations where United and Bayern stay together.
Right, but there's no guarantee you're the first team and that's not how the draw works.
There isn't the same chance at getting every team since who other seeded teams get influences who it's possible for Manchester United to get.
Okay, got it.
Still, I think that such calculations just make it complicated.
Especially that the difference between every percentage isn't that huge, but I understand that it has to keep the discussion about the draw going.
By the way, looking at Chelsea's possible opponents,
I'll eat my own shit if they don't get Besiktas...
You're right, Chelsea-Barça being very likely is really the only big thing to get out of that. That table could still change significantly with some surprises in today's results too.
Would love to draw one of the top sides tbh. What's the point in playing champions league if you don't want to play against the best? It'd be a good measure of how close we are to getting back to the elite.
I agree, but it's Lat 16, so everyobe would like a soft tie. Quarter-finals begin the real Champions League.
Assuming that Napoli finish second the unseeded pot is a nightmare.
Why would they be out?
