It could have gone to penalties, both goals in each leg were due to poor goalkeeping. No wonder we signed Van Der Sar straight after that season. Enough of Roy Carrol and Tim Howard.

If one or more English teams don't get to at least the Semis this year, then it will be an utter failure. It's probably the best year of any because of how poor the big clubs have been.

It was actually a centerback trio, but even so including two of the same that won at Arsenal, etc.

Last year they really struggled to have any sort of form until they qualified from group stages IIRC. From knock outs onwards they were just a different side, as though they decided to actually start trying or something.

Hope we get Porto, doesn't want to face one Bayern/Real at this stage of the tournament.

They drew twice against Dortmund and drew Warsaw away in the CL group, but they domestic form were much better with just consecutive draws in the late Sept being the only real hiccups.

This year they won 1-3 and 2-3 against a Dortmund side weakened by the sale of Dembele and currently 6th in the Bundesliga, drew and lost to Spurs and only really destroyed a poor APOEL team. Coupled with their league form and it's not hard to see they werent really comparable with last year.

The only team I would like to avoid at this stage is Bayern, don't mind Juve or Real as they're severely weakened this year and not performing well overall.

Juve fine. Real? All it takes is for their immense group of talent to awaken and realize that this is it. And that seem like a quite likely happening when they are faced with the threat of elimination in cl, more so than the league which they are not far from giving up unless invited back in it by barca.

UEFA will provide. Nobody wants to deal with that headache...

Btw, when you look at it the only real difference for us between now and last season is Sergio Ramos isn't winning us game after game...

Chances are we'll end up heading to Spain for the next round. No prizes for guessing which team I hope we face.

I don't know, I think we'd have a fairly good chance against Bayern. 50/50. They're not what they used to be, but Neuer will almost definitely be back.

I'm guessing Real Madrid. But Porto or Shakhtar would be perfect. Real, Juve and Bayern are the ones to avoid, obviously.

It's a nonsense that teams from the same country can't meet in the last 16.

I agree, just make it a free for all draw with just the restriction that group winners play runner ups (runners up? what's the correct spelling:)).

I’ve a horrible feeling that City are going to the final this time. Maybe even win it.

Porto will be missing Felipe after last game red card. He's their best defender.

Agree, they are still the 800pound Gorilla to beat for the cup. I'm really happy we cannot get them in the R16. If we can avoid City and Barca, I'm fine.
Obviously, Besiktas are the dream, but they are earmarked for Real, so...

There will be tasty clashes between English clubs in the quarters. United and City or United and Liverpool is a real possibility if the draw on Monday is good for the English clubs.

The draw to make wumminator either wank himself into a coma or disappear from these lands:
    Bayern-Liverpool
    Chelsea-Farca
    Juve-United
    Madrid-City
    Shakhtar-Spurs

Is the draw always on a Monday? Thought it was always on a Friday.

I don't want Liverpool to make it that far but if they do, I sure hope we draw them. Our Europa league defeat still rankles and the CL is the perfect stage to set it right. Jose might have a poor record against Klopp, but I'd expect him to have Liverpool's number in a knockout tie.

I say bring it on. I have full confidence of Mourinho schooling Conte / Klopp in a CL knockout tie.

Porto this round, Madrid next, and Chelsea in the semis. Jose’s wet dream.

I have a feeling we are getting Liverpool and it would be a brilliant tie.

This might be an odd thing to say. It doesn't apply to the league. For some reason I have a bad feeling about LP in the CL. Can't make sense of it, and I hope I am wrong. Anyway, there. I said it out loud.

Did the simulator draw earlier today and got the following which I wouldn’t mind at all.

    Real Madrid vs Besiktas
    Shakhtar Donetsk vs Tottenham
    Juventus vs Manchester City
    Sevilla vs Manchester United
    FC Basel vs Liverpool
    Bayern Munich vs AS Roma
    Chelsea vs PSG
    FC Porto vs FC Barcelona

    United vs Juventus please

Some mutual respect between the clubs and a rekindling of a rivarly from the days of Del Piero, Peruzzi, Inzaghi vs Cole, Schmeichel, Co'92. Some great memories of some fantastic matches.

    Bring it on!

Actually, I change my mind. I’d like Juve. A big game involving a traditional big team and one we can beat.
