Looks decent and was best attacker on pitch. Lost ball only once, decent touch and link with players. Created chance for others who duly misfired. He has directness to game and unlike Rashford once get past a player using his pace. He selected right options in final third. Way to go but has good potential and is not a montero type who doesn’t know what to do when finally has to make a decision with ball. Impressed.

    Great minds ;)

It will be interesting to see how Ole uses him next season, he seems like a very flexible player.

Yeah. I know people like to downplay physical and athletic attributes such as raw pace because of obsessions with technique but it’s clear his pace is a big weapon. It depends on how we use it tactically.

Can play on either side and even through the middle according to the tifo video.

James is a very basic footballer. However, 'basic' can be very effective, especially in stretched matches or when you are on the back foot. I'd like to see what James can do in tighter spaces or when up against a team who have prepared to deal with his pace.

Actually, in some ways he reminds me of a young Bale, but maybe not as consistent with the final ball - and obviously playing further up the pitch

That's the way I see it too. No idea how good he's going to turn out to be but I like what I've seen from him and you can't go wrong with buying a young talent for £15M. Well worth it.

We haven't had anyone who gets people out of their seats for ages, so that is a big plus point.

What's his best attribute though, can he dribble with the ball?

Looks like a good lad. Quick, cheerful, and finally a full back with a small arse.

I switched over to the game late last night and in about 20-25minutes he had 4 touches. 2 were when he took a corner and there was a 15 minute spell where he didn’t touch it once. People were saying he wa better earlier and was maybe a little burned out as he didn’t seem to have the electric pace talked about.

Watched the highlight video and have to say for a right footer he has a not bad cross on his left but maybe Ole would prefer to put him on the right side for more natural width.

Indeed. Although we knew that bit. It’s the rest that will be forensically analysed going forward.

He had 2 or 3 decent runs in the first half and was fouled a lot in the second, I wonder why Giggs doesn't give him a try on the right as it seems his stronger foot and he is more of a natrual crossing winger than an inverted winger.

Seemed strange why they played him up front to begin with, but when he switched to the LW he was much more involved and became a real threat.
    Bale plays RW.

They were moving the forwards around quite a bit though without a proper #9 on the pitch.

Kind of excited about him tbh. He isn't going to be world beater or anything for a long time (maybe never), But he has directness which we massively lack. The polar opposite to Martial who just stands on the touchline wanting ball to feet every time.

I've been pleasantly surprised. Maybe because before I'd seen him play certain posters kept pushing the idea that he was pace and nothing more. I was worried that he technique would be crap but it doesn't seem to be.

He has only had one season of senior football under his belt so he's not the finished article but he seems pretty tidy on the ball. He hasn't done anything stupid or wasted the ball much. He looks like he can pass pretty accurately, cross with both feet and when he's been able to run at defenders they've had no answer barring fouling him. He seems in really good control of the ball when dribbling and keeps it nice and close to him. Considering how little senior football has played his game seems pretty mature.

He should give full backs serious problems and with his pace we should be able to play him through on goal a fair bit too. Apparently his finishing can improve so I'm sure Ole will work on that with him. As a 15 million punt the signs are quite positive.

Not seen enough of him yet to decide but to me making the right decision is vital... more so than pace or "tricks" so that's good to hear

Obsessions with technique? Technical side will always beat a physical one.

Yep, people act like he's Adama Traore but he's got a lot more about him.

Unfortunately people on Redcafe have proved to be pretty poor judges in talent

He's actually quite tidy in his link up play and carries the ball close to his body at high speed which is a good sign of technique.

Definitely worth a punt worst that can happen is that we sell him on and make a slight loss

I hope James could become a player like Sane. If he is just rapid, then he would be like Adama Traore.

Was a good video until it started talking about our aging set of fullbacks.

Valencia is gone, Shaw was our player of the year at 23 years old and Dalot showed potential at 20. If Darmian remains thats a 29 year old, hardly someone past their prime. So essentially our "aging set of fullbacks" is Ashley Young alone at 33.

Please god no. That guy could beat six players and then run out of the stadium with the ball. No vision whatsoever.

Daniel James is a very versatile young forward with an exceptional pace. We hope for him to use that to get away from Lingard.

I think some are just concerned that a relatively late bloomer from the Championship is going to be seen as the answer to our RW issues instead of the likes of Sancho.

Personally, I'm happy to take a punt but we're still woefully lacking in that position.

I'm really excited about this guy. Pace is a huge threat in football and there isn't many out there as quick as this guy.

Let's hope he can have a similar effect that Sane had for City.
