Yeah we will see, as say he plays on the left from what I can see but we still have the joys of watching Jesse fly down the wing, the lad from Norway will be buzzing, seems to think Lingard is Lionel Messi, no idea who he is watching on a weekly basis haha

Or when we plan to turn him into a fullback.

I just hope he gets time to adapt to the PL before people turn their back on him.
Hopefully we will see him more on the RW and get a good run of games under his belt to build his confidence.

Rashford gets the stick because people claim he thinks he's Ronaldo, wears 'Rashy' jewellery, is deemed a top top potential and has a far bigger stature (English international) in the game. There were loads of people suggesting he's ready to lead the line for us week in week out during his purple patch and I guess his value is a bit higher than £15m. He's so further up the road in his career than Daniel James that surely you can't compare the expectations.

James is a mere punt. Even a decent-ish season from him will be seen as a success at this point.

Can't wait for his first game when he rinses his fullback. Does he like a stepover or two like a young Ronaldo did?

The little I've seen him play, he just seems very direct without many step overs etc.

Would people be happy with a Dalot type first season? Flashes of impressive play but not many games?

I’m worried expectation of him first season will be unrealistic. He seems like a nice lad with great potential. Just hope his allowed patience.

He cost 15 million so he can take as long as he wants to improve. The way i see it he isn't even first team and we still need a Right winger. He is a solid backup option and i dont think we should expect much from him because from the highlights Ive seen he looks a pace merchant.

Better than Lingard? Based on what? Lingard isn't the greatest player but you guys need to seperate your disgust when judging his football ability with his dancing ability.

This boy is going to carve them up, I cannot wait to see him in a Utd shirt, he's going to be raw at this level, he can step up, and I'm confident in him.

OT will love this boy, they will give him a chance, if the rest can keep up with him, he's going to cause some problems for teams.

Interesting to see where he is deployed, if on the right side with AWB, that side of the pitch for the first time in a long time is gonna be "lively".

Our wings are barebones but united can be really exciting to watch for once, with Shaw, Martial on the left and James, AWB on the right.

I'm really excited to see him play and think he can definitely end up splitting time evenly at RW as the season goes on. Even if his first season doesn't bring back individual success, at the very least, having a very pacy, direct winger will open up space for our other players. One of the biggest problems with having Lingard/Mata at RW is that they drift inside virtually every single time we attack and crowd the midfield so that opposing defenders and DMFs can basically corral all of our attacking players into the center and center/left. If you have a look at some of the games last year, it's actually kind of shocking how much space there is on the right and the fact that none of our players even show up on the television screen in those areas! How it makes me miss a fit Valencia, either the winger or RB version.

The main beneficiaries of having Dan James on the pitch will be Martial (maybe even Sanchez) and Pogba/whichever AMF replaces him, who will have more space/a little bit more time on the ball to create since the opposing team will have to be stretched out more. If he ends up getting some goals and assists in his first season, that will just be icing on the cake, because just his runs on the right side will give our other attackers that little bit more space that they need to flourish. I legitimately believe that if we use him this first year in an '08-'11 Valencia-type role where he just bombs down the right, it'll do wonders for Rashford, Martial and our attacking mids.

Have Shaw and Martial ever been exciting on the left? They won’t have played that many games together, but should be at least 20 odd and I can’t remember being excited by them?

Dont think anything wrong with going for this kind of signing at all, and not saying it in the "well signing big players hasnt worked". My problem is more the timing of it and as of yet the lack of other signings made.
For me we still have a big squad and a lot of depth in it. What we are seriously lacking is quality in several areas and level of performance in others where supposedly talented players are playing.
Think if we made 3 or 4 big signings, then 2 or 3 like James is good. However so far we have made one big signing in Bissaka (yes for me a big signing not a promising one) and James. If we only make one more of each and dont clear out some of the problem players ability/attitude /performance wise that we should be....it could be argued we have actually gone backwards this window

This. People need to give their heads a shake if they think this guy is just going to step into the lineup and be Ryan Giggs or something. He will have it all to do just to make the bench in some games now that we've resigned Mata and haven't unloaded Lukaku or Sanchez and we have Greenwood and Chong moving up. Not mention Lingard who Ole seems to have a hard on for. It will be very difficult for James to get game time.

Let’s see how he goes on the tour. He’s bound to get some game time. I’m reserving judgement as I haven’t seen much of him, but he could just surprise with slightly better players around him.

I mean, aren't they both 21? I don't think inconsistent performances with flashes of excellent play would be either fantastic or terrible for either of them. The only difference will be the perception and level of expectation... could be wrong though, they both have the opportunity to surprise this season.

Based on me being a season ticket holder at Swansea last season and watching United ! I'm not claiming he is Ronaldo but he is better than any RW option we have

I've seen him live two times, he is Lightning fast. Reminds me alot of early Giggs. But I was more impressed With his teamwork. He made good passes all over the Field and is a great player for the RB to link up With. I have high hopes!

James is where Rashford was after a few months under Van Gaal. Can you remember the expectations back then? It was enough for Rashford to score a few goals and run around even if he was visibly unpolished. And rightly so. The age has nothing to do with it. By that logic we would put more pressure on Daniel James than we do on Mbappé, as he's a year younger..

James is a raw excited player and under Ole will be given ample amount of opportunity to grow. It will 100% take time to adjust to the premier league but i can really see him being a great signing if i think 5 years in the future. I said it before and got batted down but his direct nature reminds me of Sterling. Yes he is no sterling and may never be as long but his style os very much similar. If he played on the right with AWB, he would have more time to make a few mistakes here and there considering the defensive qualitues AWB has (although his firstyear too so no pressure!). I have not been excited by a signing for a long while, James 100% excites me. If we get Bruno Fernandes then the window gets even better! We just need players who work hard.

Yeah, some feel the need to be top red. Like you said, the criticism was levelled towards his footballing abilities, and pretty much backed up by every piece of evidence there is, from eyes to stats, so nothing wrong there. If he were Ronaldo’s level nobody would care about his childish demeanor.

Edit: Back on point. Very much like what I hear about this boy’s character. We absolutely need players like that, irregardless of if he breaks out this season or next. Ole said something about him setting the standard for work in training, so bodes well.

I’m excited to see this lad on the wing next season. Hopefully he can step up and make it his own and not crumble under the expectation at OT.

Haha look at me I'm a top red, cracks me up. Yeah mate he is a complete bell and if he done it on the pitch (Pogba to a degree I guess although needs to do so much more) you kind of put up with it but the fact he is just a terrible football player as well as a tool of it, get him sold haha.

If I have to pay to watch him run around on the right for the next 12 months my eyes will be bleeding haha

Looking forward to follow his progress next season since he brings pace and work ethic to the team, which we lack. It will also be interesting to follow Greenwood, but that is about it if we fail to sign two quality players.
