I think we'll be completely fine without him if he leaves but at the same time I'm openly bitter about him leaving so I hope he fails miserably for them. Don't see why I should want a player who saw us as not good enough to succeed anywhere else

I currently love our Dave but he leaves against the will of the club and the fans then feck him.

If De Gea does really leave and say if we get Oblak to replace him, is Oblak actually better than De Gea or are they on a similar level? I'm also concerned if its just Simeone's Atletico system that makes him look better than he actually is. Granted, I don't watch much of him so I don't know. Would love to hear some insights from the La Liga fans.

There's something nice about having the outright best keeper in the league in De Gea, if we replace him with Oblak I'd say he'd come in and would be a par with Courtois and Lloris

Oblak is massively overrated. Courtois especially is miles ahead.

Yes the best keeper in La Liga and the second best in the UCL this season is overrated /facepalm

Oblak is easily one of the three best keepers in the world atm with Neuer and Buffon.

Courtois isn't even the best keeper in the epl right now ffs and he had 5 in front of him.

I like Courtois but there's very little between him and Oblak

Oblak is not better than DDG.

Maybe there was an agreement to give us one more year under Mourinho before allowing a move.

According to the poll over 50% are happy for Romero to start the biggest game of the season so we shouldn't be too bothered.

Are you serious? Oblak is better than De Gea?

    Yes, yes he is.

De Gea did excellent in the EPL, but Oblak was a monster in the UCL and La Liga. In BOTH competitions he conceded only 27 goals, 2 less than de Gea did in the EPL as a whole.

For this season Oblak has been the better keeper, as I said along with Buffon and Neuer.

He's very, very good. Good at short distance reflex saves and very reliable at the basics (crossing, distance shots etc;) as well as very consistent. I know the shit show in the CL final shoot out soured people on him but he really is an excellent all-round keeper and I'd say with certainty one of the 4-5 best in the World (and he's, what 23?).

In short he's not as good as De Gea (nor will be be), but he's better than Courtois for instance and the downgrade wouldn't be all that noticeable especially since our defense looks to be better than any point in recent years.

So goalkeepers take full credit for goals conceded now? It's not like Atletico has had one of the best defences on earth for a few years, is it?

That's such a weak argument. Just say you like him because of that pathetic no-show performance in the penalty shoot-out in the final in Milan. I would love him if I were a Real supporter.

Look at athletico's defence then look at the United defence

That tells you all you need to know

You can't exclusively judge goalkeepers on clean sheets. That's a collective effort and Atletico has a much better back line than United's.

Oblak is good, but is far off the quality of De Gea.

Not sure if you're serious or not. But given that Madrid have been in 3 of the last 4 CL finals whilst we've been scrubbing around struggling to qualify I think Bale has been quite justified in his motives.

What's the current conditions related to this ?

At the time Bale chose to go to Madrid we were league winners and Madrid hasn't won CL for about 11 years I think.

Yep, fair comment, but the original post that I was replying to was seeming to imply that Bale had no reasons for choosing Madrid other than perhaps money. But the fact is that even without a CL win for 11 years they were still (arguably) the biggest and most glamorous club in the world. Yes we were league winners, but it was an ageing side and it didn't feel like we were on the brink of world domination. In fact if you'd asked me to put money on who would win the CL first out of us and Madrid I think most smart money would have been on them.

You can never really know what will happen in football. RVN left us to Madrid to win CL because he though we are going the wrong way and we ended up winning it while him not. Vidal left Juve for Bayern because he though Bayern is a more CL candidate and now Juve is nearer to CL than Bayern. You never know who will win it before the other.

I agree Bale had his reasons for joining Madrid, they will still be one of the football giants if not the biggest ones, but my point is we weren't an average side we were now, and they weren't running away with CL as they are now. If he decided to join us he would have his reasons ( joining the biggest club in England and its league winner ) and if he had come as a part of a rebuild at this time, who knows what would have happened to us.

Sure time proved his choice of Madrid wasn't wrong at all, though, as we entered a period of collapse.

Just a suggestion, but could it be possible we've switched from Griezmann to James because we want Oblak, and we know Atletico will not sell two key men in one window? Coupled with the fact Griezmann is unsure?

Currently got a posting limit so not going to waste any more posts on Gareth Bale, but I find it difficult to question anyone's motives for joining Madrid - they are the biggest club in the world, in a country with good weather, food and culture. It's madness to even question why someone would want to sign for them. It's clubs like City that I question players motives for signing for - no history, zero glamour, shit weather, shit fans, no European track record or pedigree, and not even the dominant club in their league. Can only be money or at a stretch the manager. But let's not kid ourselves that you have to be some kind of footballing mercenary to join Madrid...much as it pains me to say it...

Definitely no one can deny this. For many if not most players, Madrid and Barca are the highest level of football possible they can reach in their career.

Regarding Atletico, if we activate the trasnsfer clauses, there's not much they can do.

It is totally obvious. I don't like Madrid at all, but if I was a great footballer I would have liked to sign for them. I think that most of footballers feel that way.

    Bale was an anomaly.

99 out of 100 times, a player from the home nations is going to United over anyone from abroad.

Maybe that was true back when we could guarantee domestic success, regular champions league football, being managed by the best ever on top of the biggest financial rewards. I can't imagine Delli Ali coming here either if Real Madrid and Barcelona are interested too.

Now we offer an army of Twitter followers, the opportunity to raise a players profile to further their own brand which brings commercial success even if little success on the pitch. Modern football:rolleyes:.

Today could possibly be his last game at OT :( I know he did most of his development at Atletico but this will genuinely feel like we're losing one of our own. He came as a teen, looked shaky and unsure at first, and we watched him blossom into the best keeper in the world. Seeing him in another jersey, especially that Madrid jersey will hurt.

If he does go, my feelings for him will be similar to how I feel about Ronaldo. I will always love them individually as players, but hope that they never win anything in their career again, and that they generally have a horrible time at their new club.

Obak is similar with Cortouis, they have benefited playing in the last defense of Atletico Madrid in prime. Skill wise there's not much a difference between them.
And i think, Simone found that Oblak in posture and ability is equal with Cortouis. However, I note that Oblak has a weakness at Penalty.

DDG did not have the same benefit. While Atletico was among the elite of La Liga club, their defensive wall still so-so. That's why we could say that his talent exceeded Oblak and Cortouis.

If, DDG really goes to Real Madrid with handsome fee to us, we should spent wisely to strengthen the back four rather than lump up to another high fee goalkeeper.

For filling in DDG position, we could buy Heaton. He used to play with bad defensive lines. And for what I see, he is a very very good shot stopper.

No don't worry, the club would've given him a fitting send off by subbing him off in the first minute of the match (his squad number) for a standing ovation ;).

Yeah that's just the normal last home game of the season 'thanks for your support' message.

I doubt he posted it anyway, players' social media accounts are all PR/management run these days.
