He did however completely ruin the game on Saturday by blowing for every tiny infraction, which made it one of the most boring games I've watched in years. Seriously, the second half was just a whistle every 5-10 seconds, absolutely mindnumbing.

Think actually Luiz was fouled before the challenge by Sanchez but still it was a ridiculous lunge and a clear straight red even if the freekick should have gone to Chelsea.

He lost total control of the body and then lunged in with studs high deliberately. No excusing a leg breaking tackle.

Even for the overhead kick it was bit reckless as he wasn't getting the ball and wasn't in control at all. Though yellow there was fair i suppose.

I don't have any issue with the yellow tbh, although I kind of think there's no clarity when it comes to overhead kicks. The defender came completely from his blindside and he couldn't have realistically be expected to see him, but at the same time you can seriously hurt someone like that. I suspect one day they'll just end up banning them, probably after a particularly bad incident.

Re the straight red though, you can't say he deliberately went in studs high at a time when he'd completely lost control of his body. It's either one or the other. From my view, he lost control and desperately lunged to try and clear the ball because he knew he'd just given it away stupidly, and went in higher than he'd intended because he was completely off balance. It was stupid regardless, because he should have passed it shortly before and instead for some reason tried to carry on dribbling, but there was no malice there for me.

Typical of the scousers, still bleating on about how they've been hard done by.
I heard some idiot say that Rooney's overhead goal against City a few years ago should have been disallowed for dangerous play, 'as it was no different to Luiz'...
The crucial difference is the proximity of defenders. Its not rocket science.

Horrendous challenge by Luiz that got a deserved red card, utterly irrelevant if he felt that he was fouled by Sanchez, there is no excuse for a challenge like that.

Anyone disputing that red needs to get their heads checked. Extremely reckless challenge, lucky Kolasinac could bring his leg backwards upon contact cos it could've done much more damage.

I also agreed it was a red. He had a very good game before though.

Clear red and 3 match ban is the minimum, imho. It was only pure luck that his opponent didn't break the ankle.

Fouled by Sanchez :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: That's fecking priceless that

Christ on a bike wearing a womans dress.

David Luiz knows Sanchez is coming in, you can see Luiz waiting and going to the left with his shoulder with an extra bit of force to just shrug him off, maybe provoke him to do something stupid and get booked, he's always focusing on Sanchez coming in and that's why he loses control over the ball and goes flying into Kola-spell his name - ic. Sanchez doesn't get anything in on Luiz, it's Luiz who changes direction to do Sanchez.

Shooting a bullet by mistake on to an open clearing is very different from shooting a person. The tackle was a leg breaker and could have ended someone's career - a red card is scant punishment for that. He should just take it on his chin and move on.

Yes he has, he had just not been red carded yet (though he could have). You can also lose your cool in other ways than to be sent off.

Said this before the season began that Luiz of last season was an anomaly and its near impossible for him to have such a season ever again in his life. The twitter seems to think its Luiz leading the rebellion against Conte's dictatorial methods.

Rumors that he and Conte got into a heated argument after the Roma match. He might have questioned Conte’s authority and now is getting disciplined.

From an outside perspective with no real clue what went on, it does seem like something in that vein happened.

Send him a text saying he has no future at the club, Antonio. The candy flossed-headed twat will be back in Brazil before the weekend.

    He’s got knee problems

But Christensen has been impressive so he’s being kept out of the team at the moment.

I know Madrid rumors are popping up, but he’s still a good player and can play multiple positions, also a great presence in the locker room. I hope we keep him.

Mohamed Bouhafsi was reporting last week that David Luiz was in discussions with Real Madrid. From what I've read Bouhafsi is one of the most reliable journalists out there.

There's obviously been a fallout between Conte and Luiz and as you saw with Costa if you cross Conte then you will be getting shown the exit door. If true, it's a shame as David Luiz was one of the best defenders in the League last season and playing in the centre of the back 3 was a perfect position for him. On the other hand it shows that the club is backing the manager instead of the players and we also have Christensen who's done great so far

Never rated him personally but he was in terrific form last season in a back 3.

Yeah, weird how he's just fallen off the map, albeit from what I've read, he wasn't in great form this season. Did he have some sort of falling out with Conte?

Think he's well suited to a back 3, with his ball playing technique and where he can go wandering off into midfield.

He's much more exposed doing that in a 2 CB system, where a bit more discipline and defensive position is required.

He was still featuring in January but I can't remembering him having even been on the bench for quite some time now. A loan mid-season would have been idea for him with the WC in mind. Anyone know what happened between him and Conte?

The only reason Chelsea re-signed him is because someone at Chelsea lost a bet. Has to be the reason.

    Good in a back 3.

Horrific in a back 4 against a decent attacking team.

Have to say overall the guy must be one of most overrated players in last decade in Football. I know he's won loads of trophies. So has Gary Cahill and he wouldn't make any top 10 CB list since 2008. Neither should Luiz.

He's a bit of a pointless player. Cant actually defend but he's good on the ball, though not good enough on the ball to be in midfield where it doesn't matter as much that he can't defend.

It’s not that he can’t defend, it’s that his positional discipline is often very poor and he doesn’t have the pace to make up for it. He’s easily a good enough passer to play in midfield too. The thing is, his weaknesses are exposed just as much as a DM as they are at CB.

Libero is the perfect postion for him but no decent side plays with one nowadays.
