Ronaldo being used as a bargaining chip, that would be funny

De Gea for Kroos could be fine, without money, although it doesn't sound so well as Kovacic or Varane + money.
Maybe he'll be sold but nobody knows how radical will be the changes in the squad.

It's going to be a very exciting summer .
Real are desperate for a compete rebuild and in order to do so will have to move on a number of high profile players
I expect Ronaldo , Bale, Benzema To move on also modric and maybe Kroos , expect , Hazard and Kane and yes maybe Neymar to come in with at least 2 or 3 high profile others plus Degea ( in my opinion it's now or never ) .
Real are in a mess an aging team and Zidane definitely a goner , we should target Kroos above any other CM .

Ronaldo is my favourite all time United player but a year to late to be in and Bale too injury prone . So Kroos plus 40m for Degea would work

Hehe...ok, we'll accept kroos + 40m for de gea...but you'll have to throw in Ronaldo too as he's old and crap now anyway

Very unrealistic. Madrid would be paying United on top of swapping Kroos to even get United’s attention.

Fair enough. Do you think Real will pay £100 million for De Gea next summer?

Don't think he'll leave. There's no need for us to sell unless he really pushes for a move. Real have more pressing concerns too, so once they realise they can't lowball us, they'll probably drop interest and focus on sorting out their front 3. Besides, Mou's already put the Ronaldo rumours to bed and I don't see them being keen on offloading anyone else apart from maybe Kovacic.

Real aren't going to sell 4-5 of the team that just won the Champions League even if they go home early this year.

I would seriously consider renewing the contract and paying De Gea £350,000 a week. I’m not being funny but some of the names being mentioned as his replacements are just not achievable or as good as De Gea. Who else will come in? We would weaken our back line considerably if he goes.

I also think De Gea knows what really happened with ‘the fax machine’ and that it was RM that backed out of the deal but then, would he pass up another opportunity to join them?

At the same time could you see him actually pushing for the move?

I couldn’t see him being distrupstive and I can see us refusing to do business with Madrid unless everything suits us financially. (Makes a flipping change as we got fleeced with Di Maria)

If I’m wrong and he genuinely does want to go to a team where the fans will probably hate him (ex Atletico) then I’d expect us to charge north of £100 million. I also wouldn’t touch any Madrid players except one. Raphael Varane. Even then I’d ask for money on top of that.

We should just pay him what he wants.

Don't think United would sell for 100 million euros. Not in this market. You can for get aboout him until summer 2019 then.

It all starts with it's not the right time to talk then they leave. But will DDG push for a move after all? I think of we are going to let him leave Ed and Jose will make the most out of it!

I do not even entertain the notion of DDG leaving but seeing as the, above, suggested a few names, may as well go and annoy everyone with my suggestion....

The only player I would take from Real Madrid is Casemiro, I know the arguments for the others but Casemiro is only 25 and is a rock. We could get him for a good price maybe, less than the others and get a good what 6 or 7 years out of him. Not that the others are bad players, far from it. I just think a partner for Matic is the priority.

Sit 2 propper midfielders. Like we did against Everton and I expect it Wednesday... Matic and Herrera. Most Likely!

They say lost, as if Real could not strike a different deal with someone else. For even more money. Maybe they already did and that's why it all fell through! Who knows.

I’m not worried about Dave going to Madrid. They’ll tell the world of their interest, send their minions to write daily articles about signing him, probably get Ramos to speak about during the World Cup and generally do all they can to unsettle him.

When it comes time to negotiate they’ll offer a paltry sum, get told to feck off and then complain about how they’re the only club who wants to do right by football and complain to UEFA how FFP isn’t being enforced.

Kroos, Carvajal, Marcelo, Casemiro. One or two of those and money for a new top keeper and Dave can get back to his girlfriend. That's still the issue, right?

Best keeper in the league (+50m)
At the peak with best years ahead of him he’s only 27 (+30m)
The fact we don’t need the money (+20m)
    The Woodward effect (+25m)

Extend De Gea's contract with that 1 year option (If I'm not mistaken) + Excellent World Cup performance + Current transfer market price = we're looking at 200 million at least.

I'm not taking any less than that.

Need to put this saga into perspective. If a player is determined to leave, there is nothing that you can do. What the club did since the last round, was a) raise DDG's wage substantially so RM would have to offer at least 200K to match/better b) deny RM ammunition such as refuse to pay big bucks for Morata or JR, let alone CR or Bale. You don't pay above the odds for player that they want to get rid of, which they would use to poach our other player.

I believe this time would be the same, stop doing business with RM until DDG renew his contract, offer a generous (but fair considering his contribution) contract that DDG can't refuse.

RM is not as rich as people think. Their chairman business is still on recovering phase and no way he can fund deals with his own cash in the region of 200-300m, without offloading some of their existing players. Many of their 1st team is already on the wrong end of age so they have a lot of rebuilding to do, keeper should be their last concern. Worth mentioning that their Stadium naming right worth 400m is off. So no new money.

Absolutely this. Integral that we keep players who understand what it means to pull on a United shirt, and David is undeniably one of those players.

Although I would be hugely disappointed if he left, I couldn’t fault him for wanting to do so. This will be his seventh season with us (the last three being below standards in the league and CL for a player of his calibre). He’s from Madrid and his partner lives there. A move wouldn’t warrant any ill feeling toward him. A fantastic player and professional who deverves a full trophy cabinet and a life outside of football - especially at his age.

I’m sure the club have assured him of our ambitions and it would be foolish to suggest ours, Madrid’s and his don’t align, hence why a move in my opinion would be acceptable if it resulted in a better life outside of football. He’s not leaving for money, or because he’s a nuisance in the dressing room.

On that note - sign the fecking contract, David!

No, just no. We rate De Gea much higher than you lots rate Kroos. De Gea easily worth 100m in today's market, while Kroos is at max of 60m.

The best thing about Casemiro is that he can foul all day long without getting a card.

The fact that he said 'i've come here a boy and now I'm a man' worries me a bit, as if he's leaving as a man to go back home.

He's the one player DDG that should be on a massive wage, I don't care if GK's arent the 'exciting players' he's been our most consistent player for the past 5-6 years, never less than a 7 out of 10, if anything he deserves to be the highest paid player at the club.

If he goes I would be gutted but I wouldn't blame him for wanting to go home, the lad owes us nothing and let's be honest he's paid back the £18.9 million we paid for him nearly 10 times over with the amount of times he's saved us points.

Don't forget Madrid haven't been massive spenders the past 3-4 years, I can honestly see this summer, with their La Liga form and the uncertainty of them retaining the CL, spending big and also selling big too i.e. Bale, Benzema, possibly Modric.

Will be interesting to see how things unfold.

Possible replacements if he goes - Oblak who has only just turned 25 and is consistently rated as one of the world's best or take a risk on Donnarumma who will only get better in my opinion, though is agent is Raiola so yeah maybe not lol

Completely agree on all of this, Dave owes us nothing at all! If he really wants to go, it would pain me, but i would wish him well. Madrid dont deserve him.

As for replacements, now is as good a time as any, Oblak would be my first choice, or Alisson at Roma. Donarumma is prone to far to many errors, and his attitude off the field is questionable at such an early stage of his career. Worst case scenario, there Joel & Sergio would be fine replacements, as we dont appear to be *as* reliant on a world beating keeper, though i would prefer one of the above.

It would still leave Pogba with the majority of creative responsibility. We should get someone that can share it with him in midfield rather than another body just there to make tackles. That's what would actually free him.

The only player i'd consider swapping for at Madrid is Isco and maybe Kovacic, no thanks to the rest.

Isco is probably 100 mill in this market. Id snap their hand off.

Plus I could see isco playing deeper like Modric. Modric started out as an attacking midfielder as well.

Courtois (to @sportfootmag ): "If Real Madrid want me, I'd have to speak with Chelsea. If they are interested, my personal situation would affect things. My two kids live in Madrid with their mother. The family aspect has no price, my heart is in Madrid"

That should be the end of Madrid's interest in David. Hope he signs a new contract and stays here for the rest of his career and ends up making the greatest Man Utd XI and one of the best keepers to ever grace the English league and world football.

I don't have any concrete evidence but I've always believed that Dave seriously wants a move to Madrid. If it comes to letting him go, we need to have a player like Kovacic or Isco moving in our direction plus some good money. Our focus should be strengthening the midfield.
