You're just saying the same thing as I quoted. I'm saying the hefty raise that De Gea is about to get is irrelevant to Sanchéz's performance. De Gea will be paid as much as the highest paid player whoever that is and how he is playing because he has earned it.

Supposedly, David was ready to sign an extension in 2017 but the deal wasn’t done because someone passed on the deal. This is according to the daily record, so salt, pinch, you know the drill.

Pay him whatever he asks. He has been the best player for us for the past 5/6 years and always have been excellent off the pitch.

The club and Woody made the mistake by giving a player a new benchmark in terms of wages and it’s absolutely normal that the best ones wants to have more than this.

Give him the 400K per week minimum and a 5 years contract.

Then we absolutely need to send Alexis far far away from our club this summer whether in loan to Italy or a direct move to China.

Cut Alexis salary and give DDG what he wants.

I think this will drag out into the summer, but not into next season. In the end, DDG will sign. Madrid was the only club I considered a threat to take him. I don't think he wants to sign for PSG, play in a laughable league, and fade out of the spotlight. I don't agree with the "give him whatever he wants" crowd, but I also recognize that the club has screwed the wage structure with the Sanchez signing.

So although I find this entire saga annoying, I cannot really blame DDG or his agent for taking advantage of the situation that quite frankly, United made for themselves.

Assuming Pogba continues to play well and improve even more, I cannot even imagine what his negotiation is going to look like.

Lots of talk around Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and David de Gea over the last 24 hours.

It now seems only a matter of time before Solskjaer is confirmed as Manchester United’s next manager. Indeed, given the results over the past week, Solskjaer could get a Champions League place at Mauricio Pochettino’s expense.

De Gea’s future is a bit less straightforward. His contract expires in 2020 and he wants a wage rise in line with the enormous salary United paid Alexis Sanchez.

United’s player of the year four seasons out of the last five, De Gea’s demands are understandable. The club are reluctant to give him what he wants.

You'd think if there was one player that deserves this kind of wages it would be the one that's proven world class and saved our asses multiple times every season. It's a mess entirely of our making, I'm not sure why this seems like a good time to stop throwing money around, when we spent millions on garbage. At least this time you know you'll get actual undisputed quality.

Is anyone really surprised? We brought this onto ourselves when we decided to pay Sanchez the ludicrous salary he’s on. Now, we are tightening the purse strings for a player who’s actually performed like a world class player for last 5 years. You couldn’t make this shit up, we badly need a DoF so we're not run like a circus. Woodward has done a terrible job and this would just top everything.

Before people say no one is on the money De Gea is on, just keep in mind Atletico are preparing a new contract for Oblak which would earn him €15m net annually.

Think it will end up being less than Sanchez but a lot of bonuses. The next headache is Pogba's.

Not necessarily the case. He hasn't ever been out most paid player despite being our best player since Fergie left. Probably wouldn't have changed now if Sanchez wasn't shit.

Also, Neuer is on 300k/week, from a contract of 2 years ago. Since then the market and wages have exploded.

Yeah, I think that Pogba will ask for even more than Sanchez. We should really get rid of Sanchez one way or another, otherwise things might get tricky (also if we sign a top player, he will want parity).

You can't have your 15th or whatever best player getting paid half a million per week and get surprised when far superior players ask parity (or more).

I don't really buy the media narrative that it's all about money. De Gea is our best player and easily the most deserving of being our highest earner. I think the club would happily sign off on any deal that gave him a Sanchez equivalent salary or a bit higher.

It's more likely to me that De Gea is stalling because he is looking to next season and he doesn't know who are manager will be and whether we will be in the CL or not.

Might not be a popular opinion but should we consider cashing in on De Gea whilst his stock is so high? Not sure who would buy him (PSG?). If we get £100M+ for him we could spend that on a new CB/RW or full backs. In fact a good swap deal plus cash might be best.

I think in Romero we have a very solid number 2 who I wpuld be okay to see promoted to our #1.
Like most of the CAF I think De Gea is amazing, but if we pay the wages he is asking, it may be Pogba next, then Martial, Rasford, Herera. It will make it harder to atteact players without matching or getting close to those wages also. Could be a slippery slope.

I would say he deserves it but he's already the world's highest paid goalkeeper. Can see why the club is reluctant to give him Sanchez's salary.

It was a unique circumstance. Only thing they can probably do is to give him a few heavy incentives.

0.5m for a PFA Team Of the Year
1m for a fans of the year award
    50k per cleansheet

That will probably take him close to what he wants.

Hopefully they can agree a compromise.

Otherwise it's a situation which will tie the club in knots in any future negotiations.

This doesn't smack of being a unilateral Woodward decision at all. Feels almost the opposite.

Negotiating and press releases aside, if it's true that Ole's got the job, he might have communicated to DDG (and to others) that the wage structure - or at least an adjusted one - will be reinstated.

You can't just cut Sanchez's contract, it would be illegal.

I hope all those people who where screaming for us to sign Sanchez and claiming it was a no lose situation, who utterly ripped into the few of us saying maybe we should be cautious before handing out the biggest contract in premier league history to an ageing winger, who would be completely unsellable and would raise what other players expect contract-wise going forward.

He was the highest paid staff member, tough to categorize him as a footballer still.

I think the club is right not giving in. You can't just give him a wage because he's asked for it. Fully expect him to be among our highest paid players at the end of this.

You guys can keep screaming "best in the world" or your laughing emoji's but the reality is he can't pass, is hopeless on crosses, has cost us in the CL two years in a row and is still really poor on goals like both today. He's good but not close to the best and the wage figures are laughable. As soon as he loses a bit of agility that contract will be one of the worst around.

Glad to read that we're reluctant to pay him 350k. It's like those running the club are starting to think from a professional point of view instead of acting like desperate fannies. I guess we'll finally agree a deal in more logical terms, good for everyone involved.

How does letting DDG leave on a free transfer and then buying a replacement for let’s say £100 million, on wages of £300k a week make more financial sense than just giving him £400k a week?

He's not worth Sanchez's wages because very few footballers are and certainly no goalkeepers are. He can be the highest paid player once that waster is out the door.

The fact that you expect him to save both of those shots today shows how he’s the best in the world. Agree that the wages he wants are high and what’s being offered is reasonable, but your comment otherwise is a complete joke and overraction.

I'd give Sergio a run at some point, he's proving to be very patient but he's a top keeper too. I like de Gea but I do think he gets found out some times on crosses. For today, I don't know what to say...I thought one or both were saveable but it's all about angles and speed -- hard to see it from a camera. He's not worth Sanchez's wages, true, but then neither is Sanchez.
