Dunno if they've been mentioned before, but Gattuso at Rangers and Materazzi at Everton:
Italian calciatori didn't usually venture abroad in the years gone by because of the incredible strength of the domestic leagues in terms of money and competitiveness - as well as a myriad cultural and traditional reasons, so it's a tad bit surprising these World Cup + Champions League winners played at those clubs at a relatively young age before eventually moving to Milan and Internazionale - where they played the best football of their careers.
Gattuso met his wife in Scotland. Imagine having a Glaswegian wife? The guy really is one tough fecker.
I remember being at the game against WBA in 2005 when we drew 1-1 and he had an absolute worldie. Pretty convinced SAF bought him off the back of that.
I'd completely forgotten about him until we played Yeovil the other night. Their keeper had a somewhat similar sounding name.
I loved that shirt.....
Infact that whole season at notts county was very much a weird dream
I was so sure Rossi would be a star here
Sadly passed away a couple of years ago
A few Fulham ones that I haven't seen mentioned. Sorry I cant post pictures yet so have included the links.
Mustafi playing for Everton.
Materazzi for Everton
Great left back
I had no idea he was French-basque
He may well have been mentioned earlier in the thread (I haven't read all the way through), but when I occasioanlly think about his time with us it's always with a bit of surprise. I think it's the combination of how unlikely it seemed that he'd end up with us with the fact that the United team he played in seemed sort of transitional and therefore a bit more forgettable. Even weirder was that I didn't mind him too much for those years.
Looks a bit like Pedro Pascal, in that photo.
Edgar Davids at Barnet.
Julio Baptista at Real Madrid.
Pics are on google but can't post them here, newbie and all that. Great thread keep them coming
Mario Kempes at PELITA JAYA Jakarta
He’s so good, they named him twice...
Who could ever forget Klinsmann played for Spurs exactly?
Maybe they don’t remember his second spell, but that’s the club everyone thinks of when they think about Klinsmann.
Di Canio for Celtic.
Claudio Cannigia at Dundee.
George Best at Hibernian.
Roy Carroll tops that. I will never understand how Fergie signed carroll let alone made him our number one
If you're going for Best....Dunstable Town!?
This thread is amazing. Surprisingly, many of these blow my mind.
Andy Cole for Burnley
Di Maria and Valdes for United. I almost forgot Valdes exists. Him leaving Barca was really career suicide, up till now, I don't understand why he left Barca when he was their legend. Feel for him for his downward trajectory career after Barca.
I imagine it's been posted already but has surely the only winner is William Prunier playing for us, right?
@Isotope are you Indonesian? Mario Kempes was so out of the blue.
Lehmann - Milan
Vieira - Milan
Davids - Milan
Ballack - Kaiserslautern
Ozil - Schalke
Andrew Cole - Arsenal
Andy Goram - Man Utd
Brad Friedel - Liverpool
Did Crooks get a mention yet?
I really hope those little shorts never come back in style.
