I prefer them over Barcelona as they don't do the holier than thou routine. They do however come across as slightly soulless (even for a supporter of the most relentlessly commercialised club in the world), and their domestic league is boring despite Simeone's heroics in breaking the cartel.

Barca have a respectable culture and tradition. Real really are a soulless mob run circus as many have said already.

They are at one extreme of the monetary imbalance in football, yet without this would we ever see the David v Goliath type matches?

I think that was the turning point for me too. Before that I was indifferent towards them, but now it's outright hatred. Can't believe how badly we were robbed.

That's something my mind just can not comprehend. Manchester fecking United finishing 7th and crowd applauding the players. How can the fans of the biggest team in England set their standards so low?

Real also sack managers when winning the league.

It's funny how people keep criticizing Real Madrid and calling it a circus for sacking coaches but they just keep on winning European Cups.

Maybe they know what they're doing.

I don't know. I can't stand Perez but I like some of their players and current manager. They did help us after the Munich air disaster but then again so did Liverpool.

I guess I ultimately respect them because of their achievements but I know its not exactly built from scratch.

For the amount they've spent, I would expect better than two La Ligas and two European trophies in ten years. Especially because Barcelona is their only competetion domestically.

Exactly. The best managers get a gigantic structure and the most stunning club with which to attract players. Reasonable that the board expect nigh on constant winning of everything. Hating Real is like despising a somewhat stuck up fecking gorgeous supermodel.

I just can't stand the fans, the most fickle in the world by some margin, the fact they can turn on players like Ronaldo and Bale (Casillas springs to mind as well) only to be brown nosing them a couple weeks later, then back to hate again, is quite remarkable.

Yes, fickle fans exist at all the huge clubs, but I still think Real's lot take the biscuit and then some.

And let's not forget when they kicked in the cars of the team.

It's a cultural thing. Nothing to do with standards.

In Anglo-Saxon cultures it's the honourable thing to do. Booing your own team is highly frowned upon, obviously.

Have to say I prefer that approach than the one prevelent in Spain of booing which I think is truly shameful and embarrassing.

    Such little bitches.

Heh, but then certain sectors of the bernabeu do tend to take it to a level that is genuinely puzzling for the rest

Haha yeah. They only had to compete with one of the best club sides ever (and Atlético, who have been a top four team in Europe over the past four seasons). Put Real Madrid in the English league over the last decade and see how many titles they'd win.

And two CLs still makes them the second most successful club in the competition over the past 10 years. They've just reached the semis for the seventh season in a row. If that's failure then god knows what that makes the English clubs who also chuck around money like it's going out of fashion.

Yeah and England has a losers mentality. People took pride in the glorious failure of the national team and elevated losers to heroes because they tried.

Spanish, German, Italian and Brazilian cultures like winners and accept only the best.

I can't stand them OR Barcelona.

I hate how nobody can say no to them and there's this perception that they can buy anybody and anybody who plays for them is "world class", even after they've been dumped by them. Sanchez, Ozil and Di Maria came to the PL with this reputation and I suspect James and/or Isco will as well.

Barcelona have this elitist attitude about them. Can't stand watching them crowd the refs when a decision doesn't go their way. I also get the impression that they're all a bunch of cheating, diving, sore losers.

Biggest laugh ever. The only way CL will survive being usurped by a 'Top 10/12' Super Team' League is if 'big teams' like Liverpool and the two Milanese teams don't have to fight for their titles like everyone else!

I don't hate Real Madrid or Barcelona per se but can see very clearly they are the darlings of FIFA and UEFA who basically hate all things English.
Look how often Blatter or Platini would talk and talk about the FA or premier league..
The moment English clubs got a big tv deals suddenly they're able to keep hold of their own players and buy better players..the league has become very competitive. Then you get these people talking about what's fair.

Is it fair 2 clubs got the biggest share of their league's wealth for so long? Arguably it is because these clubs Make the league popular so deserve more money.

Similarly the popularity of the EPL is due to United more than any other team yet a club like Tottenham gets rich off the back of that....basically the EPL is too fair and yet these idiots complain about it being unfair because there's so much money in the league now.
English football has been too fair on smaller clubs when you got that stupid something mile rule (no idea of it still exists)which meant a top young talent would be confined to playing for a smaller club in effect to give those clubs a better chance of receiving a share of EPL money later. This is too fair. It would prevent a future David Beckham coming up at a club up north like United. Smaller clubs couldn't develop players better than us either so it hindered English talent too.
You don't get this in la liga, where real and Barca have their b team just one division down. everything in that county's infrastructure benefits the very big clubs.

Similarly I don't like that Bayern Munich simply get to rule their league and buy up the best German players from Dortmund with ease like that. Imagine how good we'd be if we just dropped our pants and Alli, dier, Kane, sterling etc just came to us constantly or going back the likes of Gerrard, lampard, terry etc and all on the cheap too. We'd become a loathsome, arrogant, annoying club. That's how Bayern are to me.

Most Unsentimental club in Europe...Most Successful club on the European stage. Can you deny the correlation?

If you were to make a bet on which club would remain competitive for the next 50 years, they'd be your favourites.

I Don't hate them, even though I have a soft spot for Barca (I love possession football, sue me). Although I'll support just about any team they play against.

I also don't understand what people have against the whole Barcelona 'more than a club ' ethos. Having a unique ideology (even if you are deluded in it) is one of the things that make football and sport special imo.

Is it possible to not hate the club, but hate the people running it and the decisions they make ??

I think that is where I stand with Real.

Don't really hate them, used to look down at their fans until Fergie retired and our fans started celebrating things like Zlatan getting injured and hoping we lose so LVG gets sacked.

I've been watching football for a long time and every single club has turned to shit at some point except for Real, they must be doing something right. If we win 2 league titles and 2 CL's within 10 years I'd be extremely happy.

Nobody's saying they shouldn't earn their place on the pitch.

I like the CL better when inter, milan, juve, madrid, barcelona, bayern, united, liverpool, ajax are competing with each other to win it. Just has a different taste

This is total bollocks. If real had to share the TV revenue like clubs do in England they wont have the money to keep the likes of Kovacic, James and Isco on the their bench.

There is no reason to think they would do any better than United if they were constrained by the PL revenue sharing like United are.

United have a guy on 250k a week on their bench. In what way are they constrained by revenue sharing?

I don't really see the correlation. They had been average for quite a while before 2009 and even now I think whatever success they have is despite and not because of their trigger happy policy.

Barca look a shadow of themselves, but Messi can always lift them that extra level :drool:

Except Ramos was onside for the first goal

On topic, I liked Madrid since I went to watch a home game as a kid, wasnt quite love at first sight since United were and still are my team

Not sure where the hate for them comes from on these boards but its frustrating as hell to see comments about Real doing X when Barca are just as guilty of doing the same...Its like two turds arguing over who smells better and its painfully old to read

Also tired of the GOAT discussions too; both Messi and Ronaldo have been beyond magnificient for their clubs respectively and both contribute different elements to a gamr. To say one is better than the other is completely subjective and everyone will have their own opinion.
