Does anyone still think Shaw is better then Rose?

Remember there being quite a bit of debate about this in this thread http://www.redcafe.net/threads/slovakia-vs-england.421231/

@GlastonSpur was being the obvious advocate for Rose and he had to take a barrage of the usual "you're talking shit" posts as a result (Including a scoffing post from me I'll admit).

So, where do people stand on this now? Shaw has had injuries and gone backwards (arguably as a result) and Rose gone from strength to strength.

He's the best left back in the league in my opinion.

On current form, Rose is a much better left back than Shaw.

I don't think Rose is very good, just a good athletic player. Don't think he's the most intelligent player.

Shaw is worse though. Shaw gets rated on here as some world class prospect, when in reality in his two and a half seasons here he's had about 8-10 good games and never forced himself as a guaranteed starter.

Currently the best is Rose, on potential alone Shaw probably edges it.

If that potential ever comes to fruition remains to see though.

It's really impressive seeing how much Rose has improved. He's fantastic at the minute.

I honestly don't think Shaw has gone backwards. He hasn't really been able to build momentum due to his injuries but I'm convinced that he still has it in him to be as good as most of us think. As of right now, Rose is better. But Rose is also 26 and in my opinion Shaw has a higher ceiling, despite the injuries.

Obviously. Rose was probably the best LB in the league last year, and is probably the same this year. Shaw can barely string a handful of games together at the minute.

I still think Shaw's ceiling is higher, but he has a lot to do to fulfill that potential.

Rose is a very good fullback with a great engine. Definitely the better player right now, but important to remember there's 5 years development between the two players.

Right now Rose is better. I still expect Shaw to develop into an excellent LB. Rose was on loan at Bristol City in the Championship at the same age.

Not saying Shaw is better, but I just don't think he's had a run of games this season to prove himself.
Before his injury he was playing excellent and was proving to be a very good player.
I hope to see him back in the team soon.

Yeh, that's true. Shaw is better now than Rose was at the same age, for sure.

Rose has had less time in that position though I'd say, seeing as he's a converted winger.

Not even close at the moment, Rose is one of (if not the) most improved players in the league whereas Shaw basically hasn't played in almost 3 (yes 3) years

    Rose is better.

A footballer is no good if he's not fit enough to even get a seat on the bench. It's all well and good to talk about "ceiling", but he's got a long way to come back and prove he is worth the money we paid for him.

Shaw was good at Southampton, but not great. We paid for potential. His first season was a write off, his second season even more so barring those 8 games or so where he was pretty good. We've barely seen him this season, and when we have, he has been fairly unremarkable.

As of this very minute, I'd take Rose all day long. He's playing every game, probably 1st pick for England now. I want to see more from Shaw than just 8 games, or however many it was.

Pre injury Shaw, he was our best player and by far the best in the league. Rose is currently better.

Rose is playing so he is better. If Shaw ever gets out of the Mourinho's dog house, then he might prove different.

Shaw's time here has been decimated by injury, it really has. He's been spectacularly unlucky so far. I think some people are guilty of forgetting just how good a young defender he was (and hopefully still is).

He needs fitness and a run of games and I'm willing to be patient with him. As for the OP, well, Rose is currently better. He's on the pitch, for one. He is, infact, a fairly good example of a young(ish) full back getting regular game time and improving considerably as a result. Perhaps we could show that same faith in Shaw?

Rose is definitely better at the moment, he's been very good for Spurs for at least a couple of seasons now. He was good during his loan at Sunderland also.

I still think Shaw can be great for us though. The fact he started the season really well makes me think his most recent performances were just a blip and not any long term effect from the injury and that he has in it him to get back to good form once he's back fit and can get a run in the side. Hopefully any issues him and Mourinho may have had have been sorted in his time outof the team so he can focus on getting back into form.

Problem is the pre leg break form is becoming a classic United supporter overstatement right up there with Anderson dominated Fabregas and Gerrerd, with Fletcher we'd have beaten Barcelona in 2009 and the Spurs/Liverpool/City trio of games under LVG

    Completely disagree.

He's got authority on the ball. Picks good passes, one-twos, can dribble out of trouble, can read play well and cover the centre backs and even step into midfield.

Not on the same level but his style reminds of Dennis Irwin.

Would love Rose at United, plays 110% every match. Not saying Shaw can't be that level, the injury knocked him for six.

Shaw was our best player that season until the injury, it's not an overstatement. Who was better if you don't agree?

Rose is better now and has done well but still think he is dodgy defensively, it just doesn't get exposed as much in Poch's organised system. Shaw has been completely derailed by that horrific injury and deserves time to hopefully get back to his best and progress.

Don't forget Anderson/Cleverley before Cleverley got injured.

He had about four good games last season and two of them were against club Brugge. I remember his poor defending costing us against Swansea last season.

I'm not saying none of the things I mentioned weren't accurately correct statements but at what point do you stop harping on about them?

Shaw's form for 8 games over a year ago is basically irrelevant now

Considering that Shaw is a shadow of the player he was in the weeks before his injury - Rose is better.
