I'd rather get Koulibaly, our defence would be complete with Shaw Koulbailly Lindelof Dalot, comfortable on balls and playing out from the back under pressure.

I don't know much about him but Duncan Castles first linked him to us about a month ago. Now Jason Burt has name dropped him too. Maybe @Arruda could educate us on the potential of this player.

It is clear we wont buy someone expensive. I like Milenkovic more from the profile

I think we need a totally dominant centerback. He seems lightweight and isn't that great in the air. He played RB before this season. If we go for a young CB it should be Milenkovic. De Ligt would be a dream but it wont happen.

I'm gonna keep saying it, we have Axel, I see no point in another inexperienced CB being added.

Eder Militao was signed by Porto In the summer from Sao Paulo and to be honest I do not see him signing for Man United neither in January or Summer Porto are stern negotiators despite the fact that they do need to sell. I think they will make an exception for this young lad.

Militao is a very versatile player who can play as a center back and right back with good quality, additionally he can play as a defensive minded midfielder though that is the weakest of his 3 positions. He is a quick center back for his height and is a stern tackler, he also has an exceptional reading of the game for such a young age. Militao is a good header of the ball which makes him a threat from set pieces. He is not too good with his weak foot which at times puts him in bad positions but for such a young defender you would expect more mistakes from the lad.

Porto scouting network is top notch and up there with the best in Europe and they got a good one with this young Brazilian defender. He Is still only 20 and should stay in a league like the Portuguese to continue to develop his game and get even more experience from playing first team Football along with valuable champions league experience. Like I said above though I truly do not see him leaving until he's 22 ( about one more full season as a Porto starter).

De light is the most promising center back in the world and he has Barcelona written all over him. Sadly he won't be coming to the Premiership I reckon.

We could do with someone who is dominant in the air. Milenkovic at Fiorentina is very dominant in aerial duels and is good on the ball too. He has surprisingly a good turn of pace aswell. Currently Smalling is our most dominant defender in the air but isn't the best with the ball at his feet. Someone like Milenkovic would be an alternative to Smalling and can play football too. I don't know much about Militao but Milenkovic imo is gonna be one of the best CBs in a few years and someone we should sign before he heads elsewhere.

Indeed. We dont need another kid. What we need is a leader CB to replace Jones/Rojo in the squad.

If we going to sign a young defender, I rather go for De Ligt and we have a chance now with Mourinhho gone.

Apparently they close to signing Murillo as De Ligt is too pricey for them.

You really like this Milenkovic lad, don't you? :D Jokes aside mate he looks better all round than this lad from the bits I've seen and he's playing in a stronger league, but I feel the key CB piece missing here is someone to lead and organize that back 4.

Both of whom play comfortably on the left side of defence. We need to sign a player to form a partnership rather than stock piling defenders who play best on the right.

Miltao is playing on the left in those videos

Looks like the type of defender we bought Bailly to be, not what we need to add to the squad for me. We need a more aerially dominant no nonsense type.

I'd rather pick a Milenkovic if we want a kid. Don't want this guy unless we see his as right back competition. He is no where near being a solution at center half.

We have plenty of CBs but none of them are top class. I would keep Smalling, Lindelof and Bailly, sell Jones and Rojo for 35-40 million minimum and buy the best available CB.

I have no idea how Alderweireld has been playing but the obvious choices are Alderweireld, Skriniar and Koulibaly. If we are planning on buying a youngster, it has to be De Ligt, especially with Mourinho gone and club probably looking at Poch. We need an experienced leader in our defense so maybe De Ligt is too young for that role but I don't think we should buy another youngster with promise, we need a proper WC CB.

If Alderweireld hasn't turned to shite, I would buy him and De Ligt for a combined fee of 100 million. Sell Rojones for 40,that's a net of 60.That would give us
    Shaw Toby De Ligt Dalot
    /Young /Valencia

with Smalling, Lindelof, Bailly as back ups

Only YouTube but he looks class in his compilation. And everything I’ve read about him makes him sound like he’s very highly rated.

I’m not a fan of formula in football. I don’t know if we need a 28 year old centre half or a 21 year old one. I don’t believe it works like that. We just need the right player. This player may have one season’s experience or 10. All players are different. I just hope we get it right.

I think we need 2 CB's and this guy, along with Milenkovic could be the future for us. Both young, but top CB's already and could form a great partnership for years.

It sounds like another Bailly/Lindelof type risk.

I wish we'd just do what Liverpool did with van Dijk and spend the necessary money to sort the position out with a world class player i.e. Koulibaly.

I've seen Sporting and Benfica fans say he is the best in their league. I think the users on this site could be underrating him, if we're going to buy a young CB there probably aren't many better options than him. Obviously I still prefer Koulibaly for the instant impact but that ship has now sailed.

How does he compare to Lindelof when he was in Portugal?

Fact is we need upgrades on Smalling and Jones, who for me are both below top 4 quality. Smalling at best is decent backup. Lindelof looks as though he’s finally settled but the jury’s out how he performs against the better teams.

I definitely wouldn’t be against signing two centrebacks, a lot mention the need for a commanding centre back, im going to say the two biggest attributes we currently lack in the position are, passing the ball out from the back in a creative sense and also concentration especially on set pieces.

Question simply being is this guy better than Jones/Smalling? Who are both very limited in passing ability and concentration

He looks a very aggressive CB from what I've seen on YouTube, which admittedly isn't the best way to judge a player.

He's only been here a few months so I'm not sure if it's fair to compare but he's definitely more highly rated than Lindelof was. He's 20 and he's the best defender in the league, the best defender to have played in Portugal since Pepe imo.

Militão was bought to play right back for Porto but Mbemba got injured so he's moved to CB and now Conceição will never change his position since he's playing so well. He can also play DM, he's very good on the ball, very fast and he can actually defend. He has everything a modern centeback needs, incredible name too.

50 million euros buyout clause is definitely a good price, a top club will pay that in the summer for sure.
