    Good tournament overall.

Some huge positives to take, incredible performances from; Pickford and Trippier especially. It's a young team and there's a lot of positives we can take going onto the next tournaments but I expect people will find that hard to see right now. We've got a good foundation to build on and hopefully more talent comes in over the next couple years.

Chin up to my fellow England fans.

If you ask anyone prior to tournament no one would have though England will reach the semis anyway.

Good tournament and very good achievement.

They need a midfielder. Their midfield options are very poor.

Lot of positives and something to look forward to for England fans.

They did us proud. It might not be this tournament, but it's coming home.

In my life time, I have only ever been disappointed by England. For the first time, they've made be quite happy and I am pleased for every one of them.

There’s a lot to look forward to. Best tournament in a long time for me too. Not overly upset today I’m proud of the team.

The few weeks when England were in it have been fantastic, it's been the most enjoyable World Cup in ages and a big part of it is England getting so far. Constantly sunny weather, England winning a penalty shootout, reaching the semis, etc. So great seeing the country this happy!

Great opportunity and ultimately a shoddy poor exit. Neither here nor there.

Heartbroken to go out, but can’t fault the effort of the team. We just lacked a bit of quality and experience. It’s a young team and surely we will be better in 4 years time with more experience and hopefully some quality players who can make the step up.

This is far from a golden generation, they’ve definitely overachieved. It’s disappointing for sure, Croatia deserved the win but we could have beaten them. It was a poor second half performance.

I actually like supporting England again, so cheers Gareth. Roll on Euro 2020.

Usual glorious failure. At least we didn't go out on penalties. However, we certainly go out with regrets, so comfy in that first half with two chances to go 2-0 up.

    If only.

They are a better team than the 'golden generation' ever were and they have already proved it. They may not have the best individuals but they are playing like a proper team for the first time in over 20 years and most of that is down to Southgate. They did extremely well in this tournament and England fans should be very proud of each and every one of them.

No shame in going out in the semis to a very good Croatia team with two of the best midfielders in the world.

They gave everything, the fans all over the country know that and we're happy to be English again even if just for a little while.

Not sure on the system given the players we have available and not sure on what Dele Alli has on Southgate but it must be something horrible for him to stay on tonight and at other times in the tournament (like Tunisia when he was injured for 70 minutes).

But alas, it's heartbreaking isn't it? I felt more sick tonight watching it than I think I might ever have in a United game. People say international football doesn't matter but it bloody does at a World Cup.

Their easy draw flattered them. They lost to the only two good teams they played.

Hats off to the lads they’ve done us proud.

I’ve never expected so little from a tournament but they captured the nations hearts. Youngest team at the tournament and a great experience to build on, exciting times ahead for England.

Good tournament. We should have finished the game off in the first half and were punished. After that half, they were comfortably the better team.

Plenty of positives to take and I certainly didn't expect us to reach the semis. It was a kind route, no doubt, but you can only beat what you're up against. Plenty learned for the Euros.

They'll only get better. Two or three players will drop out of contention, two or three will come in. Southgate has done a magnificent job.

Why is the Belgium game even relevant? It was a dead rubber.

Not sure why Spain/Germany/Argentina's failures are being used as a stick to beat England with. The Belgium game was pointless, we lost on ET to Croatia - I guess that means we're shit.

It was a really fun time to be an England fan and I naturally feel proud of the team. We did at points look like the England of old today but overall we definitely have had a positive transformation under Southgate. Its just a massive disappointment to not reach the final, it would have been the biggest match ever in my time watching football, just about eclipsing the CL finals with united. Still I have really enjoyed watching the team and screaming at the telly.

Mostly because no one expected that they would have played Colombia (w/o James) and Sweden leading up to the Semis.

On one hand.. reaching the semis is great.. no one will remember the path to it.

But... they didnt really play that well or beat any decent sides.
Was a pretty average performance ..

Semis of the WC is still something the players will have with them for ever.

There's some very good youth to come from England and hopefully they find their way to the first team picture soon.

Did well but I don't think they can do better. The system suits them more because it allows them to work hard and pass around, but it masks a distinct lack of top quality players. Look at France's team for example - Varane, Pogba, Matuidi, Kante, Mbappe are all top players and better than their England equilvanets (Stones / Henderson / Alli / Lingard / Sterling). Our front two are the only truly elite players we have at the moment imo.

Ok they took an easy route, but it's like saying United won cups because we got the easier draw.

You're only able to play what's in front of you, and they did well in this regard.

True, it was said about United's Europa League win. Credit to England for beating teams they're suppose to beat but if knew this is who they would play, would you not have picked them to make the semis?

I agree that they took an easy route, anyone who claims otherwise is delusional, but we didn't know who they'll play prior to the tournament or how the groups would go. England found a chance in taking an easy route and took it, I think any other top team would have done the same imo.

    Good run.

I'm hopeful going into the next one. We have such a good crop of young talents and, with sticking with Southgate, we should get even better.

They did well, credit to them. I don't think England are anywhere near good enough to get as far again in a tournament for the forseeable. Not a new dawn, just a blip.

Firstly I feel England have done well generally this tournament & things look better for the future. Unlike Gary Neville though I do not feel we have overachieved but done well with the kind draw. Defeating Panama, Tunisia, Columbia, & Sweden are not shocks, & the first class side we play, ignoring the dead rubber against Belgium, we struggle & fail to defeat.

I think Trippier & Pickford have had really good World Cup, & all the players have contributed something. As a Man Utd supporter & fan of Rashford, it grieves me to conclude after this tournament he is definitely second fiddle to Sterling at this time. The match today showed this greatly, with Sterling being the main difference for our dominance in the first half, & if he could actually improve his final ball & finishing could move to the top echelon of players. He tired in the second half & was correctly subbed for Rashford, but despite tiring opponents Rashford seemed unable to succeed the same as Sterling, despite a couple of good runs after just coming in. Guardiola has clearly improved him as a player, which Mourinho has failed to do with Rashford.

We won a pen shootout. That was like winning a cup on it's own

    but it it obviously wasn't.
