Lukaku tweeted that there should be an all-star game like the NBA in EPL. I'm not here to argue whether it's a good or bad idea. But if there was a game between North vs South, what would be the teams and who would win?

Based on the performance this season, my North team would be

    De Gea
    Walker -- Otamendi -- Jones -- Robertson
    Matic
    KDB -- Pogba
    Salah -- Aguero -- Sterling

    Manager: Pep
    My South team would be

    Courtois
    Azpi -- Sanchez -- Vertonghen -- Davies
    Kante -- Dembele
    Eriksen -- Ozil -- Hazard
    Kane

    Manager : Pochettino
The North team should win comfortably imo. They just have too much firepower. 3-1 is my prediction.

    When would this be played?

I assume it would replace the community Shield.

Might be worth a go one year although I get the feeling this could be the new hobbyhorse of Scudamore to replace the 39th game and it would get played abroad.

Edit: Too top heavy with top 6 clubs players there, needs two representatives from all 20 teams so twenty man squads.

I think it would be a great idea especially if its for charity.

They should let the players and the fans nominate 2 players from each club to represent the region so you don't have too many players from one club.

It's not a bad idea. I like it a lot and during the off-season it would be a great idea to hold this kind of game. The players shouldn't be just from top 6 clubs though. Mix it up a bit but of the two teams that have been mentioned North would win easily.

There's not one thing Robertson is better than Young at. That's all I have to say about that.

Playing it midseason as in NBA isn't possible and will be an extra unnecessary exhausting match for the players in a crowded season.

However, the idea of scrapping CS for it looks legit for me. Will be a more entertaining start of the season.

    North Team:

    De Gea

    Seamus Coleman Maguire Kompany Robertson

    De Bruyne Ndidi

    Alexis Matt Ritchie Sigurdsson

    Salah

Subs: Lossl, Aaron Mooy, Lascelles, Tarkowski, Defour, Rondon, Evans.

 O.k not as easy as I thought it would be. I used up too many top 6 players in defence so was limited with attacking options.

Another problem was only 7 northern based teams in the league so had to include Leicester which is debatable. Guess West Brom would be included aswell.

    I agree with that.

You have the players for 3-4 weeks pre season and then lose them for a week so they can train together for a charity game a week before the season?

Another problem could be the transfer window would still be open so a major player linked with moves could be tapped up as has happened when players have joined up with international teams before.

Nice idea but think it will be a while before this is implemented if at all.

I thought we're here to make teams, not argue about the idea. We all know what the arguments are going to be, don't we?

Meh. The best players will end up pulling out anyway. You'll end up with rubbish players from Newcastle/Everton vs Southampton/Bournemouth. So much for an 'All Star' game.

Not that it matters, as the teams would be top 6 based (which would make it pointless imo) but how would the midlands be decided whether it's north or south.

    What’s the ultimate point?

No one would actively support either of the teams, and there’d be little novelty factor in seeing regular footballers already currently playing (unlike in the big charity games)

It seems like a very ‘American Sports Entertainment’ idea, that doesn’t chime nearly as well with our footballing culture.

I don't know about that. VVD is overall better but it's not a massive gap. Either way, in an "All Star" setting, your first name on the sheet is Eric Bailly, let's be honest here.

Have an all stars team vs la liga all stars team.

Personally I'd rather the best players are picked rather than picking a player from every team

Americanized nonsense. US sports is hyper fixated on the individual personalities whereas in football the team is still more important. Considering the profile of Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar and co we might be starting to move towards that, heavily driven by marketing and financial interests. If Lebron James moves after this season his team(Cleveland Cavaliers) automatically becomes irrelevant and the team he goes to becomes the biggest story.

It would be better to select a PL All-Star team to play an NBA selection during the All-Star break (which will maybe coincide with the new PL winter break anyway).

    C Crouch
    PF Courtois
    SF Lukaku
    SG Pogba
    PG De Bruyne

    International football is just different.

Doing it as part of club football or as an extension of it would be...wrong.

For all these 'americanized' nonsense arguments.. and the move towards more individidual-centric fandom.. the 50's, 60's 70's, 80's and 90's were full of all-star games and the greats all got to play alongside each other.. so this claim it is just adopting american customs and has no historic footing in our game is bullshit quite frankly.

Out of season friendlies, not an officially sanctioned part of a season. Why don't I like the idea of it? Instinctive response, but probably conservative nostalgia.

US sports seasons are so long(outside of American Football) 82 regular season games in the NBA, same in the NHL, an absurd 162 in the MLB, and the 3 longest also allow half the league into the playoffs. I watch a lot of the NBA but at this stage of the season you have a third of the league actively looking to lose to position themselves for draft picks, a lot of bad basketball being played. The All Star games provide a mid season break, an opportunity to liven up the grind, a reward for the outstanding players. It could probably work in football, but relegation and the cups keep a season active for longer for most of the teams.

Better than watching the Charity Shield or the European Super Cup IMO. We see so much of our clubs, that there is barely a break between one season to the next.. mixing it up with some friendlies like this, adds a different form of entertainment to the mix, which is much welcome IMO.

Not liking it - is fair enough, its not for everyone.. just saying, attacking it because apparently it is not the done thing in football, and taking swipes at modern football for being more individual centric.. when in fact there are less all-star games now, than ever before is well wrong.

Personally think its a shame that everything in football has to be so damn serious, everything has to be club-centric etc.. just chill, what is so bad about having some great players playing alongside other great players they haven't had a chance to play alongside before.

It happens all the time in international football mate. Barcelona and Madrid Spanish players despite their intense rivalry had to put it to one side to focus on the national team.

On the day they're announcing a winter break because players are playing too often I really can't see this happening. I can't say I'd care about it either.

Suppose you'd just take the 10 furthest North vs South, or West vs East at the time if it were to happen. Would look something like this:

North: Newcastle, Burnley, Huddersfield, City, United, Stoke, Everton, Liverpool, Leicester, WBA
South: Swansea, Watford, Spurs, Arsenal, West Ham, Chelsea, Palace, Southampton, Brighton, Bournemouth
    or
West: Swansea, Everton, Liverpool, United, City, Burnley, Stoke, WBA, Bournemouth, Huddersfield
East: Southampton, Newcastle, Leicester, Watford, Chelsea, Brighton, Palace, Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham
