Are you actually excited as an Arsenal supporter? Playing in the Europa League league last year was numbing and joyless bar the final, and even then I was only happy for the ticket back into the CL.

It's still a major competition imo.

Arsenal fans will probably feel better playing in it than getting embarrassed by the likes of Bayern again.

Europa League is worse for their league campaign though. Wenger doesn't really have the right stuff for multiple high stakes home-away knockout ties in Europe either.

Its a good place to make your mark when struggling elsewhere. Arsenal fans should enjoy it (after all the 100 or so preliminary boring games are out of the way). I loved the run of games we got when we reached the final and Moreno handed Sevilla the cup.

I think that they'll go far probably into semi/qf and crumbling to the first physical team who's not mezmerised by their barca wannabe tactics

Discounting Everton, the only remotely interesting team they could draw would be Marseille. The only fun teams are in pot 1 with them. They could end up in a group with Ludogorets, Maccabi Tel-Aviv and Zulte Waregem or BATE Borisov, FC Midtjylland and FC Lugano. If I were an Arsenal fan, I'm not sure I could get excited enough to turn on the telly with a group like that.

I don't think they should be counting on the league campaign too much.

Whatever you want to call it nowadays, it's still the UEFA Cup, and there is only one bigger competition in European club football.

I was absolutely delighted that United finally added this trophy to the collection, and I think if Arsenal have any sense, they should go full out to win this.
It's not a stroll in the park though, there are some very decent clubs involved: Lyon, Ajax, Bilbao, Lazio and A/C Milan immediately spring to mind.

Looking at the possible draw, the toughest Arsenal can get would be Atalanta, Real Sociedad and FC Koln/Hertha Berlin. Think even that would be a doable group, and definitely more entertaining than trips to Turkey and Ukraine.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't check the seedings. Obviously that group is not possible. Marseille instead of the German teams then.

Hopefully we can use it as a chance to give some important game time to the younger players.

I would rather be in Europa league than not be in it. More games to watch and some good teams in the mix especially in January

Any promising youngster from Arsenal? Gone are the days when fans filled up to watch Cesc, Fran Merida, Lansbury etc. I remember the excitement of a player named Tom Cruise. Where is Zelalam?

It's a new thing, an european competition we finally have a good chance at. I was fed up with a knockout stage exit in the Champions League every year.

They should be enough to win our group, but then i would like to play some first team players.

As the competition for places increases in PL, English teams are starting to take Europa seriously. That's the right way to go about it too. Winning a European trophy still helps build positivity around the club, the fans and the players.

The past 5 seasons there have been 3 Spanish winners of the competition and 2 English winners. With Liverpool also contesting a final in that period arguably we do take it seriously already.

This really does get a bit tiresome. There's nothing wrong with the Europa League. Barring the manner in which we won our last two Champions League trophies, the joy was just the same when we beat Ajax. People can dismiss it as much as they want, I'm glad that it's profile is increasing. I hope Arsenal do take it seriously. It is going to take on greater significance now that we don't have a top 4 anymore.

It's a bit cherry picked time horizon to be fair. In last ten years, it's 6-2 Spain vs England. In last fifteen years it's 8-2. Until last year, when the competition for top 4 spots was fierce already, only one English team had won Europa in last 15 years. That's in no way, taking it seriously.

But like I said, English teams are starting to take it seriously as witnessed by the last two EL finals.

Yea but I would be concerned if I were an Arsenal fan about the comments Wenger made about resting players in Europa to concentrate on league games.

Zelalem was on loan last season although I've got no idea what the plan is for him currently. Reiss Nelson looked good in the Emirates Cup and Bielik is highly rated. Otherwise I'd say Joe Willock and Ainsley Maitland-Niles are the other promising youngsters.

Yeah I figure we'll see a very weakened team in the group stage then we'll take it more seriously in the knockouts. I hope Wenger gives game time to Chambers and Holding though. He really does need to have more trust in them.

It was great to win it but the entire Europa journey was a bit of a grim grind to glory to be honest.

The only thing that makes it worthwhile is going all the way and winning it.

Sums up my feelings on the Europa League. It's a bloated, tedious competition. Arsenal fans, particularly match-goers will quickly realise that too.

When you've experienced the Champions League, making the step down is... meh.

IMO Arsenal should prioritize the EL this season since they are legit in danger of not making the top 4 again this year.

Only thing I as a fan took from the win last year though was the fact that we'd get CL again, the EL in itself didn't mean that much.

If that's the worst case, which would be a walk in the park for Arsenal, then the best case scenario might be time for the kids to have a play.

I've seen quotes of his this morning essentially saying he doesnt see the EL as important, and that the league has taken over the importance of the CL. So I expect him to put out 2nd string/youth teams in this and focus on the league and their coveted 4th

I don't fully understand the negativity about this competition.
It's not the Champions League for sure, but its still the 2nd biggest prize in European football, and I for one am chuffed to bits that we finally have the UEFA Cup in the cabinet.

It makes United one of only 5 clubs to complete the European Treble of European Cup, UEFA Cup and Cup Winners Cup.
That's a highly prestigious club to be in, alongside Juventus, Ajax, Bayern (& Chelski meh).

If I were an Arsenal supporter, Id be really pissed off with Wenger's comments about resting players in the Europa.
Although they've had an excellent return in the FA Cup in the past few years (Winners 14-15-17) they haven't won the League since 2004 and haven't won the League Cup since 1993.
For a club of Arsenal's stature their European pedigree is piss-poor, a sum total of one Cup Winners Cup way back in 1994..!

For goodness sake, here's a great opportunity to win a trophy, go all out to win it...!!

AC Milan are the favourites given that Arsene has basically said they are not bothered. Spurs should win it when the dumped out of the CL at Christmas.

Hope all favorites pass their groups, it could give nice quality in last phases of competition.
